"a terribly badly managed airport"

Not Verified | This is a terribly badly managed airport. Extreme waiting time to security check (1-2 hours). No pick-up / drop off zone for cars outside. Difficult to find the different car parks, signs are not adequate. The bus from the car park and car rental stops 1 kilometer from the terminal building. And finally, it oftentimes takes very long to get baggage delivered. Bottom ranked in Europe and actually an embarrassment for Sweden.

"probably one of the worst airports in Europe"

Trip Verified | Arlanda airport is probably one of the worst airports in Europe. The line to security is crazy long especially in morning hours and the security staff understaffed. Airside there are few options and the terminals are really crowded. Overall the airport gives you a Ryanair feeling to it. The airport also offer the Norrsken lounge which is something of a joke.

"contender for worst airport in Europe"

Not Verified | Arlanda is a disaster. There was only one security gate open for thousands of passengers, so security took over an hour and, after that there eas a 20 minute queue to use stinking, filthy toilets. The queue for the ladies was much longer still. The terminal was packed with no place to sit and the services were terrible, basically burger, burger or burger. This must be a contender for worst airport in Europe and possibly even the world. I have never been in more dirty, crowded and unpleasant terminal. Just disgusting.

"security control takes ages"

Trip Verified | When arriving I was misinformed by the information counter as to where to go to for the car rentals. I ended up in the train and had to switch to a bus later on, but no official in sight to assist. It took me more than an hour of extra travelling to find my rental car. At Europcar they confirmed the signs to them are very bad, but the airport makes changes to them every time. Then back to the family that were waiting at the airport. The signs inside the airport are different from the ones used outside, incredible. I drove for more than 30minutes around the airport terminals to find them: no signs in the road about a pick up point. You really become crazy driving around with no clear signs. And there are so many airports that do this right, go and check at Schiphol Airport, will help you and hopefully me a next time. Then the return flight: at terminal 2 - because it is Easter no staff is in sight, nowhere. No assistance at luggage drop off and at check only in 1 person. The security control takes ages, although 5 people stand around and just look around. No advice as to what keep ready and to hold ready outside your bag. Apparently many people travel for the first time and need that advice. No one is available to do so. Is this Swedish effectiveness? At terminal 2 only one food bar is open but has no cappuccino because the machine broke down just like on the other floor. Of course, no repair people could come because it is a holiday. Is this not a regular airport where people come and go all day year round?? Sandwiches cost eur 10 per piece, what prices. The staff at the airport have sad not smiling faces that look to say: please, do not blame me, I only work here. When we arrived from Amsterdam it all looked promising. But that feeling changed into a feeling of despair and not wanting to come back to this specific airport. Indeed, what a mess!!

"Never have I seen such an abuse of power at an airport"

Trip Verified | I was absolutely humiliated by the security team at Stockholm Arlanda on March 29, 2022. I have diabetes and wear an insulin pump to keep me alive, I am very used to it needing to be scanned with a magnetic spectrum device, and this was done today, after which my left hand was also wiped but the device had just been taken out of the scanner so was incredibly hot and it burned my hand. Instead of asking if I was ok, the officer swiped my right hand also burning that one. I was holding back tears by now due to the heat intensity. My case was then opened by 2 other officers and was treated like some kind of criminal. Never have I seen such an abuse of power at an airport. I fully appreciate the need for extreme security checks, but when you are violating someone is this way, it is not acceptable!

"Thank you so much for a job well done"

Trip Verified | My daughter and I were held in detention at Arlanda airport on 12/31. That is not how one expects to spend New Year's Eve. Although fully vaccinated, our PCR tests were a day late. Having cheerfully passed through Arlanda passport control many times since 1976 and owning a house in Sweden, the experience proved unique to say the least. Overnight accommodations lacked the ambience of prior hotels but proved adequate. Having traveled extensively worldwide has taught me there are often unexpected adventures. Our delay proved to have numerous positive features, since the Arlanda security proved to be quite outstanding. They were purely professional and polite, explaining with patience the details of procedures. It wasn't just one officer, but all five of them. That doesn't happen in any professional service. In my opinion, this can only happen when the highest caliber of people are recruited, expertly trained and then professionally led from the top. It was enlightening and inspiring. Here is a police force with integrity, forbearance and tactfulness. I feel that Arlanda is likely the safest airport in the world geared to protect. Thank you so much for a job well done. It's certain countless others have had similar experiences, but it is always the complaints that get the most attention. I offer one suggestion however, the beds in detention could be a bit more comfortable.

"Horrible security"

Trip Verified | Horrible security at this airport. First of all please wear face masks if you come so close to your “customers” I’m a frequent flyer and I know that at the Arlanda airport everything is a little bit old. So I put my liquids in a 1 Liter plastic zip bag I prepared at home. The two ladies inspected it and told me I have to fit everything in a much smaller plastic bag that they had, super weird since you’re allowed to bring 1 Liter. They took everything and expected every little powder in my toiletry bag (so the stuff that was not in the plastic zip bag) just so they can find more stuff for me to throw, like they were enjoying it. They took out my dirty underwear for everyone to see. I had to throw the remaining liquids that didn’t fit in the much smaller bag. I understand you have authority and you sometimes have to do thing to make travelling safe but this was not fair, not nice and I think not allowed. It felt like I was bullied and humiliated by someone who doesn’t deserve authority. Please try to look for better staff or pay them better so they don’t need to take expensive make up from travelers. It cost me a lot of money to throw stuff that didn’t need to be thrown.

"we missed our flight"

Trip Verified | Arrived at Terminal 5 at 10am on 4th January 2022 for our Ryanair flight to Liverpool UK at 12.20. Uneventful check in procedure at Ryanair desk, we joined the large queue for security at around 10.15am, although the queue was large it was moving quite quickly and we had approximately 2hrs to get through. After 30mins in this queue a member of airport staff raised a barrier and call all passengers traveling to Liverpool and London to go to the alternative security check in desks at the other end of the airport. Numerous people left this queue and proceeded to join the other security gate line. This line was even bigger than the last and was hardly moving! Despite numerous requests to the airport staff we received no help to access security to ensure we reached out departure gate on time. We were consistently told there was nothing that could be done and that “everyone was in the same boat”. I asked if it was possible to buy fast track passes but was told it was too late because we would have to change our boarding pass, also that it was not possible with a Ryanair flight. When we eventually reached our gate (about 12.15) it had closed and we missed our flight. We have since read that all domestic flights are currently being redirected through terminal 5 causing excessive throughput of passengers, surely informing passengers via their airline to allow more time than usual to pass through security would have been beneficial to everyone. We have rescheduled our flight for Saturday 8th and booked fast track passes so hopefully we will avoid a repeat of events! If you are due to fly from terminal 5 soon make sure you allow plenty of time to get through security.

"staff was not polite at all"

Trip Verified | Security queues were 40’ long. In addition we were held over and over again once we reached the security xrays for no apparent reason. Having to wait an additional 15 mins. A total of 6 people with 4 children. The staff was not polite at all quite aggressive. I requested a complaint form and was advised to submit it via the website. Additionally when trying to purchase a water bottle from a dispensing machine. We were charged twice 27 sek without getting the bottle. After all this I did get in touch with swedavia over the phone and was advised to send an email to [email protected] Seems like this airport customer operation is not ready or willing to capture customer service levels.

"horrified with Sweden's main airport"

Trip Verified | I arrived at the airport 3 hours before the flight and the queue was so long, that I could not get the flight! There were several other people for the same flight as me standing in the line as well and nobody could reach it! We all tried to get help from the staff, but they refused to listen to us, they went away and put guards around them!! Imagine!?! Is this the airport service we pay expensive for? There is absolutely no service at all at that airport, no help and specially the staff from Scandinavian Airlines is really bad. My flight was Lufthansa, but we couldn't see any person from Lufthansa, to help us. several people lost this flight and they weren't able (or just didn't want) to organise everything and make us fly, as we paid for. There is no communication or planning between Lufthansa and Arlanda Airport organisation (or lack of organisation). I am extremely horrified with Sweden's main airport, in the capital city. The land of the technology, but it is not able to organise an airport. Great frustration.
