Shanghai Pudong Airport

As a main airport in China Shanghai Pudong Airport is quite significant. The airport is new modern and quite big as well. Efficiency of the airport is not bad at all which is above average unexpected. Cleanliness satisfactory but some corners are a bit dirty and some places in the restricted area are messy. Facilities are okay for me as I was departing at night some of the stores were closed though. Overall nice airport to visit and will recommend this airport to others.

Had an international transfer in terminal 1 - only one line for security check and it took over 1 hour. Staff were very noisy and rude and when asked why the line took so long we were just told to wait patiently. Not many shops for shopping food prices are ok. Airport was quite clean. Will try to avoid transfers at this airport in the future.

Very strange airport. Very modern-looking. Transiting to Japan with a 7-hour stopover we were ushered to the transit desk which is not airline-specific. Due to the very common delays on Chinese flights the most pressing flights were dealt with first. Passengers were dealt with as if they were causing problems for the staff rather than trying to do something which is carried out with ease at most international airports. I was asked why I didn't have a boarding pass for the final leg of my journey which could not be issued in London because the airline could not issue it there. All very annoying. A 7-hour stopover was reduced to 5 hours just by standing in the queue at the transit desk. Staff can be seen chatting happily which is very unprofessional and adds to the stress when things are going so slowly anyway. Do not expect anyone to smile. Airport itself looks modern but the duty-free selection and restaurants are mediocre.

Very spacious clean roomy and lots of light and windows; but for an airport this size (it was terminal 1) the shopping options and eateries are ridiculously limited. Also an alert for departing passengers there are no viable eateries cafes or anything after the passport/security. So eat beforehand!

Modern very large airport with good signage. Duty free shopping very limited. Be aware if you need cash from ATM as we were told none available after immigration when departing couldn't find any. Immigration staff friendly coming in and out of airport.

Shanghai PuDong turned out to be fine. It's not a shopping mecca and it's annoying to get bags and check back in but it was easy to find everything. Everyone was friendly and able to answer questions in English. I was carrying mountains of photographic film and they hand checked without blinking.

I transferred here going from Chicago to Seoul Korea. Had to go through immigration baggage claim take bags to check-in counters on another floor go through immigration again and security. How is this supposed to be an international hub airport the largest in China? Beijing Airport was much better. It seemed like the staff were not used to a situation of an international traveller transiting through the airport. I felt rather out of place. Signs were not relevant to international transit passengers except one directing to an international transfer area which was apparently out of service apparently being used as a resting place by two security officers who did not speak English. If I had missed the notice taped to the door at the end of the exit corridor of the airplane I would have been totally lost. (It let passengers know they had to claim their bags and check in for their next flight even though bags were tagged to their final destination).

Departed Shanghai Pudong on Friday evening. Check-in was amazing no waiting time and very efficient security clearance. However the facilities after check-in are very limited. Toilets were clean but very little to do for such a large airport. Flight was delayed for more than 2 hours supposedly because of traffic control. Unfortunately this type of delay occurs much too often.

In Transit from Lufthansa flight to Air New Zealand. Processing was bureaucratic but acceptable. Beautiful very large terminal with free WiFi and charging facilities. Reasonable lounges excellent toilets. Two teas and an OJ came to NZ$70 (RMB345). Never before and never again! Even Duty Free was expensive and lacking in variety - just a few novelty items.

Immigration staff were surprisingly friendly contrary to previous comments. However security checks are actually very strict and may be inconvenient if carrying too many items. For Domestics transfers the service was good and toilets very clean. However for any transfers I do not recommend anyone dining in the terminal. Instead consider moving to the centre portion [using the connecting bridge at level 2] where there are KFC and several Chinese fast food chains for meals where it's cheaper. But do note that the toilets here forth are not as clean as the check-in areas.
