Seychelles Airport customer review

Review by (South Africa) 30th March 2014

Old airport - looks like a 1970s relic - which it is! Only used for transfer which was so simple - just a short walk. In that sense convenient but not much to do air side and unable to comment on passport or check in services. Staff pleasant and very helpful. So my one hour in the Seychelles was smooth and pleasant. Departure area air-conditioned which was handy in 31c humid outside temps.

Seychelles Airport customer review

Review by (Australia) 21st March 2013

Arrived on almost full Emirates flight to an airport arrivals area that was flooded with passengers. No orderly lines for immigration. Arrivals area was hot no air conditioning no fans even the air was still and hot. Very uncomfortable. A local music group was set up just inside the door in the arrivals area with the loudest music it was not the greeting many wanted. People standing in front and behind were commenting on the volume. Local Seychellois arriving pushed their way to the front ignoring foreign passengers and making fellow passengers feel unwelcome. When they were challenged their attitude was indifferent. Police and immigration officers just watched on and ignored this problem. Immigration processing time was extraordinarily slow. Random bag check was a faux pas. After being asked a series of questions and then being told to put bag through scanner I noted there was actually no one observing the monitor! Departing Seychelles was slightly easier. But again the processing time to get tickets and check bags was so slow. The bag check and line up area is open air. Upon going through to immigration and security I noted two of the immigration officials on the Internet looking at everything but what they were supposed to be doing. The whole experience was not impressive. Quite an embarrassment for such a beautiful country.

A small but pleasant airport. On arrival customs officer friendly and smiling. Luggage delivered quickly and duty free shops in the arrival lounge. On departure staff pleasant including the security check. Just be aware that the domestic terminal is very small and offer very few seating possibilities before check in.

This airport continues to improve as it gets more and more traffic. Air Seychelles are the ground handling company and they have built an excellent lounge for premium passengers. It really is very very nice. The shopping improves with every visit and the space available keeps increasing in size for passengers to stroll. That with the friendly and helpful staff makes it a winner.

What a difference a year makes particularly if the Seychelles want to celebrate 30 years of independence too. The airport has had a makeover which although not entirely finished is very pleasing. The airside areas have been extended and tastefully refurbished; departures particularly would rate alongside many other airports now. Nice duty free area and a bar together with plenty of seats. Pleasant start to my journey (SEZ-DOH-LGW with Qatar) but I soon came down to earth at the zoo they call Doha!

Review by 31st March 2005

What is so incredible is that this airport is tiny for the amount of traffic it gets. Check in is outside and there's an open air cafe with rip off prices. Tip go to the Domestic Terminal shop under the covered boardwalk 10 meters away for more selections. Avoid entering immigration until the last possible minute as you will wait at the only boarding gate which is one big glass fishbowl of a room with a tiny duty free A Rip off Tanzanite shop from South Africa and a bar serving squishy sandwiches. It's a truly horrible airport with no relief from the sweltering humidity. Check in early as the lines will reach to the parking lot if the aircraft is a 747. Praslin airport is deserving of Paradise-not Mahe. The security screeners are very sharp and miss nothing. Nothing really has changed at Mahe Airport since it was built some decades ago. It's not a place to hang around. You want to get in and out as fast as you possibly can. Preferably to the nearest Pool or beach. God help Smokers in the departure room. A closet sized space with an overflowing ashtray accommodates those craving a nicotine fix. The air is so cloudy that other smokers can't even see each other a chair away- and there's 4 of those. No jetways to the aircraft. Walk and lug your stuff up the airstairs yourself. Not easy when you are travelling with a baby and all the junk that comes with that.
