Mombasa Airport

I don't know what airport the previous person was using but it wasn't Mombasa. I have used this airport on a regular basis for the past 4 years and have yet to meet a polite official at any point that works for the airports or airlines. I have found rude men and women. The only area I have actually encountered helpful staff were in the 2 Forex's. The only reason I use this airport is at certain times of the year it is cheaper than Nairobi. Can I give it no stars?

Overall not a bad airport. Airport very warm but not unbearably so the ceiling-fans were all working fine. Security check-in immigration staff all polite and courteous. As mentioned below not a lot to do once you clear customs - all duty-free shops (prices must have dropped since the previous reviews - they were fine) and only one café. There is an option to use the Safari Lounge airside at a cost though I didn't make use of this facility. My only critical comment is that visitors who arrive without visas should have separate immigration queues to those who have pre- obtained visas.

Mombasa is a basic bucket and spade airport. We did not expect much and were not disappointed. the airport has no air con so was extremely hot something not helped by the many broken ceiling fans. Check in and customs pretty good although of course there is not the volume of passengers. Duty free shops charge the highest prices on the planet but that is true at Nairobi as well. The price of food and drink is at Heathrow levels which seems excessive considering Kenya is a low wage economy. Tusker beer costs more at the airport than in our 5* hotel. There is nothing whatsoever to do here so don't let your tour company do their usual thing and dump you at the airport three hours before take off.

Mombasa airport is one of those open air jobs where both sides of the building are open to the air. The immigration is tolerable the shop a bit disappointing but lots of nice fresh air. Good to watch the sparrows wheel in and out of the place as well.
