"will do my best to avoid this place"
1 reviews John Fitzgerald (United States)
This airport is truly a maze that will confuse and confound the most seasoned traveler. It may not be the worst in the USA but it is trying hard to win that title. I know there are other airports doing their best to keep up with the title the worst airport in the USA but I think with a little more work MIA can win. Highest taxes on rental cars and passengers also that I have seen. Will do my best to avoid this place!

"long walks and even longer queues
Peter Kay (United Kingdom)
Arrival at airport a nightmare, long walks and even longer queues. Visitors arriving with ESTA's need to use electronic terminals and input their own data. All well and good if you can get to one in the first place when there are many flights arriving at the same time. When you do eventually get to a terminal it struggles to take your finger print (unless you can disconnect your fingers from your hand) and ultimately issues you with a reject slip which you then have to present to the immigration officer by joining the another queue (the one you tried to join in the first place). I estimate that 90% of visitors using the electronic terminals received rejection slips and then had to re queue. The whole experience has put me off using Miami airport again as it took over two hours to clear immigration. This is unfortunate as I have seen using this airport for over twenty years when visiting Naples.

"terminals are dirty"
M Mitana (United States)
The worst airport I've ever been to. The terminals are dirty, there is no complimentary wifi, and you must go through security to move between terminals. I would pay extra to avoid the airport in the future.

"one of the worst airports"
1 reviews Guilherme Silva (United States)
I travel at least 65% of the time. Most of my trips are to Latin America, Europe, New York and Los Angeles. Since I live in Fort Lauderdale, I have no option but use MIA a lot. With the exception of the AA Concierge Key check in, and in general the American Airlines terminal, Miami is one of the worst airports I have used. TSA control positions for most airlines (except AA) are really bad, ugly and dirty. Check the gates. Arrive in Miami on an American Airlines domestic flight and get ready for at least 30 to 45 minutes waiting for your bags. I know of an ATM out of international arrivals that has been out of order for at least 4 months.

"maybe I was just very lucky"
Anthony Mead (Spain)
After reading all the bad reviews on this page, I was really expecting the worst. Inmigration was fast and personnel helpful. 25 minutes to get through. Luggage arrived quickly. Departure was even quicker, no queues and in just 10 minutes was at the lounge. Maybe I was just very lucky. America Club lounge is terrible though.

"what a nightmare this airport is"
E. Middleton (United States)
What a nightmare this airport is. Super expensive food. $37 for a burger, fries, a bourbon and soda and mandatory 18% tip at the pub-like restaurant in Concourse D. Another "meal" (dry turkey sandwich and beverage for $18 at Concourse F). Customers there were pushy and rude. No tables available. No one takes the meal vouchers issued by American Airlines. Why do they issue these worthless pieces of paper? American Airlines, airport, TSA, ICE, restaurant staff? Rude. Snippy. Unhelpful. Often incompetent. Never a smile. Never a please or thank you or I'm sorry. Most try and ignore you, by avoiding eye contact. I lived in NYC for 25 years and JFK and LGA are bastions of kindness and grace compared to this pit of bad manners. Most AA announcements at the gate in Spanish, and informal Spanish at that. When English is used, the announcements are often shorter with less information. Iberia does a better job with the English. Concourse F looks like something out of 1985. Industrial carpet. Worn chairs. Crowded, with many sitting on the floor. No TSA pre-check and no shopping. Just a few lame fast food joints, and an overpriced bar. In fairness, Concourse D, the American Airlines zone, is quite nice, modern, with a coral reef-themed terrazzo floor, though not much open after 9 PM. F and D are not connected, so you have to go through security twice to get to D (and the AA lounge) and back. The check-in areas for many of the non-U.S. airlines, e.g. Iberia, have also seen better days. Crowded, noisy, glaring fluorescent lighting, claustrophobic. Again, 1980s ambiance. No functioning Wi-Fi. They promise 30 minutes free, but I sure didn't get it. A 10-minute line for the ICE passport reading machines on entry to the U.S. A number were broken. Imagine: a line for a machine!! And then another line to turn in the paper produced by the machine. Slow baggage claim. About 45 minutes after the door opened, luggage arrived. Taxi pick up area is choked with diesel exhaust fumes.

"avoid at all costs"
Antonio Tostes (Brazil)
Awful airport. Incompetent and disrespectful staff. As far as I know, the only airport in the USA that does not respect the very concept of a line: FIFO. First in, first out as incompetent staff used to arrange people from the end immigration line to the beginning of the line for USA citizens. A hell of immigration and hell of customs. Unfortunately I usually fly from Brazil to Miami. In July this year my flight arrived at 03.45 am. I had a connection to CUN at 07.20 am and almost missed the flight, by just 5 minutes. It’s unimaginable, avoid at all costs.

"it was a horrible experience"
Tonya Butts (United States)
I don't know what went on at Miami Airport the other night. But I travel once a year for a vacation and I have never had an experience like this. You could tell the employees knew things were going wrong. The lines from the baggage pick up and recheck were crazy, undefined with no ropes. They wound back on themselves and around you couldn't find the end of the line, no one knew what was going on. People were cutting in line, people were angry and anxious because they knew they were going to miss flights. It was like they were unprepared by the influx an sheer volume of people. Employees were trying to make up for what they knew was becoming a bad situation by hustling people through safety points opening up lines sideways shoving people up front, nobody knew what was going on. We were told don't even take your shoes off just get your stuff on the x-ray machine. Quickly, quickly. I paid $1400 in air tickets, I deserve to be treated with a certain level of respect and to feel safe. There were at least three flights canceled by my terminal alone. I believe that it was because the flights weren't full due to the number of persons stuck somewhere in that airport and couldn't make it to their flights. In general it was a horrible experience and I'm pretty sure that's a General consensus of all of us who were there. Maybe that's not what it's like everyday, but I'm not anxious to go back to find out. That was just terrible.

Miami Airport customer review
Melissa Martins (United States)
I had a connection for New York at Miami with AA. I saw the endless queue at the immigration, and asked the airport staff about the process for connection flights - no response from staff. After the customs line, I had missed my flight. I asked several staff where I should go because I needed to re-check my bag, the answer was "do the line here, you'll see". The line was for South America departures. After getting a new ticket for a flight the next morning (new line to do, staff avoiding questions), I had the pleasure of spending the night at the airport and what a night. I did not sleep because it was so cold due to the AC, and we enjoyed the music all night long. The seats are awful, except if you are a contortionist. The only restaurant/snacks open during the night is Subway, otherwise you'll be hungry all night.
