"totally hopeless information"

(Norway)

Route Cancun-Miami-London. Plane held on the tarmac before docking for 40 minutes. No such thing as International transit at this airport and had to "enter" USA with full passport and customs control. Then new exit passport control and security with a totally hopeless information on where to go and felt like we were cattle and had come to the stone-age. We lost our connection of course. Try to avoid this airport at any cost.

"endless crowds and queues"

(United States)

Miami airport is terrible - endless crowds and queues. On more than 1 occasion I've nearly missed connecting flights because of the impossible queues here - if you're in transit you have to go thru security again, and immigration and passport control are also lengthy waits. Just no longer worth it - use another airport whenever possible.

"will avoid in the future"

(Canada)

Arrived from Dominican Republic and then stood in line for close to an hour for the automated passport control. Who designed that system, and the placement is wrong. People standing in Line waiting for their turn are watching you and yelling at others to hurry up. The terminals should be at the front of the line. This system is supposed to make your entry quicker, no such luck, most of the people on that day got the x which means stand in another long line to see a border agent. I will avoid this airport in the future. The system at Vancouver International Airport works much better.

"another endless line"

(United States)

Miami International by far was the worse experience I have had. I arrived internationally with my sister and had a 3 hour layover. Upon arriving we immediately found ourselves waiting in an endless line for US Citizens that got us to kiosks. Then we proceeded to another endless line to another group of kiosks for customs that were for re entry. There were no instructions just lines, no assistance at the kiosks as well. It was a free for all. After we got our picture taken by the machine, we then waited in line to get into another line to wait to go through customs with a live person. After he went through our kiosk sheets and declaration we went through some doors and had to retrieve our luggage. I have never had to do this before and found it ridiculous. The baggage area was all spread out, there were no clear indicators of what flights they came from and many luggage were taken off the belt and scattered in clusters. It took a while to even find my bag which had my lost and found tag missing. Once we found our bags in the mess they call baggage claim, we stood in another enormous line to go through another live person. By then I had less than an hour left until my connecting flight took off. We finally got through and the person who told us how easy it would be was lying. No one was at the end to take our bags and direct us to the next flight. I was separated from my sister and put in a rescheduled flights line. A person who worked there saw me asked where I was going and took me out of line. I was shoved out of the customs/international area to the front of the airport with my bags. A person out there checked in my bag for me and told me to run with less than 30 min before my flight took off. I was told to run to go through screening again. Then had to cut in line because my flight was to depart in less than 15 min. Once I went through, my departing gate was at the other end of the building. No one was willing to give me a ride on the carts when I asked either. So my pregnant self, had to run/walk to the other end. I was out of breath and stressed when I arrived at my gate. Everyone had boarded and I made it with minutes to spare. The disorganization, lack of customer service and re entry procedures are seriously flawed. I had a terrible experience here.

"I will avoid in the future"

(United States)

I've now had 2 horrendous experiences at Miami. The first was several years ago when much of the airport was under construction. However, most recently there was no construction in sight. We stood in line for 30-40 minutes to use the "automated passport control" machines. Then we stood in an even longer line to actually go through immigration stations with live attendants that seemed to look and function exactly like every immigration station I've ever gone through in the US. I saw absolutely no benefit to the APC function. To make it even worse - there were 2 stations for the 75 percent of incoming passengers who were US citizens. However if you were a foreign national or had got an X on your receipt from the wonderful machines, there were over a dozen stations for you and you were probably sipping a mojito in your hotel while the US citizens were still waiting in line. 1 hour 40 minutes from landing to exiting customs. In the past year I've been in 30 countries and 70+ airports including Beijing, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, Delhi and Miami was the worst for immigration. A work colleague said he'd had exactly the same experience - his foreign-born mother got an X and was through immigration many times faster than he was. I will avoid Miami as an entry point to the US in the future.

"very congested"

(Greece)

First time in Miami and on arrival we had a delay on a holding point on the taxiway waiting for a gate to clear. Long lines for passport clearance and customs control - the immigration system in the USA is probably the most unfriendly for passengers in the world. Once you pickup your baggage and try to find your way out, the walking distances to the train are long. Overall it's very congested. Extreme traffic going and coming on the road. The only good way of going and coming to the airport is the rail service.

"one feels a bit congested"

(Germany)

Transitted twice to and fro. Spend 4 hrs in total at the airport. The airport is huge as compared to other ones in Florida, has nice bookstores and Cuban eatouts. Picked up two books and Tried local Cuban snacks and food. Seating arrangments were fine, but one feels a bit congested. This can be looked at. Also the directions are sometimes confusing. Drinking water facility, Toilets are clean and usable.

"efficient and queues do move fast"

(United Kingdom)

I am in shock. After 20 years of using Miami airport I actually had a good experience. It is now, apparently, efficient and queues do move fast. And, most importantly, staff appear to be friendly and not rude. They appear to try to improve. I noticed passengers with cards that say fast connection and were whisked in front of queues. We did not need to collect our bags and re-deposit them, they were interlined to our final destination. There were lots of people around willing to help. I once said this airport was the closest I have been to hell, but today I actually had a good experience here.

"no complaints whatsoever"

(Ireland)

Arrived here on the 18th of December 2015 from JFK. Had read all the reviews and was very apprehensive about arriving. Queues were long but dealt with very efficiently/quickly. Staff at airport were very friendly and helpful. Maybe the people who complained about airport staff don't know how to approach people? One piece of our luggage never arrived so went to baggage inquires. Girls at the desk were lovely and couldn't do enough to help me. Saw one or two people berating the staff. One girl was reduced to tears. I know that I would like to use some foul language in my description of these people. No complaints whatsoever about Miami Airport.

"one member of staff"

(Spain)

The worst airport I have ever arrived at. After a long day of flying from Madrid we walked and walked then stood in a queue with everyone else from our plane and I'm guessing 5 other planes. I didn't know at that point what we were even queuing for, as the queue slowly moved and got round a corner there were hundreds of people and I could see in a distance customs. An ESTA queue formed so I put myself into that queue with everyone else, one member of staff shouting at anyone with a visa to join him, no one did so after an hour I finally made it to what I thought was customs, but a machine, a free for all. No staff and everyone was playing with a machine that they didn't know how to use, after doing everthing it asked me a big cross through my face. Again no staff. Eventually I walked through to get my case, that was the easy part, laid on the ground in the middle of baggage collection. 3 and a half hours in total to leave that building - never again.
