"confronted by masses of people"

(Australia)

Arrived after 24 hours in airports and planes from Copenhagen at 9 pm. Confronted by masses of people trying to get through passport control where there were about 10 epassport booths working with one lady helping everyone get through the 2 part system/ Waited for 20 minutes plus then a massive queue for customs. Had no food etc. so quickly through when had negotiated the 20+ minute queue. Why are there no clear instructions written so you know to scan passport, obtain the ticket and then queue to be assessed by the technology? Ebola card drop off seemed unprofessional, throwing it in a red plastic bucket. Out by 1030 after much frustration. Put sufficient staff on to help with heavy busy times and have more electronic booths to cope with crowds. Amateur hour of organisation compared to other European airports. Use funding wisely, not for new uniforms.

"a national embarrassment"

(Australia)

I fly all over the world usually 25 international flights a year. I hate coming home to Melbourne because I have to come through our airport arrival fiasco. I can state that no arrival hall is as bad as Melbourne airport arrival. I would actually call it a national embarrassment. First you have to queue to get through Border Control (roughly 25 mins - it is never less, and I have a APEC card). You have to queue this long because they never have more than 5 people checking passports when 5 jumbos land all at once. Waiting for your luggage is not so bad. Then you have to queue to clear Customs and when I say queue I mean queue. The queue winds its way around the OUTSIDE of the arrival hall. Again this takes 20-25 minutes. Just what you don't want after a long international flight. It really is an embarrassment to the city of Melbourne. The state government and border control should be ashamed. It's also incredibly run down but I will let that slide. The lack of direct train is also rather embarrassing, clearly there's more revenue in car parks. LAX used to be a bad airport but not anymore so why can't we improve?

"once again met by long queues"

(Australia)

Arriving home to Melbourne early Thursday morning from Europe and was once again met by long queues at passport control and quarantine. The lack of space, information and direction from staff/signage is an embarrassment (to us Melbournians) and the total lack of customer service is just not good enough.

"staff stand around doing nothing"

(Australia)

This airport is an embarrassing joke. The staff show no interest in the welfare of the passengers, many of whom have travelled on some of the longest fligts on the planet, only to face ludicrously long lines at immigration. No one seems to be in charge and no one serms to care. Staff stand around doing nothing while 2 lines snail their way forward.

"absolutely understaffed at immigration"

(Australia)

Melbourne Airport. Absolutely understaffed at immigration. 3 staff for about 200 people queuing. Ridiculous waiting times with young kids coming from Germany who just have had enough. Shouldn't be too hard to fix this up?

Melbourne Airport customer review

(New Zealand)

Astonishingly poor customer service from security staff. Instead of telling you what is going on, or that they have finished and I can leave now, they just turned their back on me. It was also unclear what was happening at bag screening and staff were very rude. I also witnessed extremely bad customer service on arrival a few days prior. Staff were very loudly impatient with and rude to older travellers who did not know how to use the smart gates

Melbourne Airport customer review

(Australia)

Melbourne's airport is a terrible shambles - my sense is that the airport is endlessly struggling to keep up with the growth in capacity. Rather than bite the bullet and invest, they just keep nickel and diming small incremental fixes. The result is massive queues and barely organised chaos - particularly when more than 2 planes turn up which, as many others have observed, it can't be too hard to anticipate. The customs and immigration staff appear to be trained to conduct themselves in a manner that projects suspicion and veiled hostility, they do distress people and seem to treat doing so as a part of their job. The departure security checking and border control are amongst the wort you'll find anywhere- it was easier and the staff were less obnoxious at Lagos airport - so that gives you a sense of what to expect. Better to arrive/depart via in Sydney and then get a domestic connection to Melbourne.

Arrived T4 Tiger Airways at 6.25am for 8.20am flight. At check in signs say more food and drink options and arrow to x-ray scanner and gates. As only vending machine in terminal so far and son diabetic needing breakfast we went to gate. There were empty drink vending machines and a closed cafe. What a joke ! Everyone was looking for something to eat or drink. Is Tiger trying to boost sales on board or is it the airports fault. I don't care, just sort it out please.

Melbourne Airport customer review

(Indonesia)

Early morning transit through Melbourne you follow the signs and come across a locked door with a sign asking you to lift the handset. I was told someone would be 5 minutes, nowhere to sit after long flight, just a cold corridor. 10 minutes later a gent unlocks the door. Finally through security experience very abrupt staff. Not much to do in the airport and wifi is virtually non-existent. Try to change money to buy a coffee to find theres a $30 fee. I avoid this airport as much as possible but unfortunately there is no option sometimes.

Melbourne Airport customer review

(Australia)

First time ever missed flight, due to disorganised car park, nearly 30 mins to find a park, massive walk to terminal, no easy signage- terrible airport. Why does this airport make it so difficult to use, I am amazed anyone catches their flights. Oh and the car park 6 dollars for first 20mins, it takes you 20mins at least to find a park!
