"service is absolutely horrible"

All I can say is the Melbourne Airport service is absolutely horrible. The waiting time on queue of 45 minutes is unacceptable of an international city. Apologies don't do much and neither do they change the fact that people's time has been wasted! After planning myself adequately I couldn't do my tax refund at TRS all thanks to inefficiency at the airport.

"very poor service"

Have just spent 90 minutes in queue to board and queue is getting bigger, only seems to be 8 staff on duty and room for 16 no doubt due to cost cutting. They apologise over speaker, sorry for delay but is not good enough. Have recently travelled around Asia and things moved so much quicker there, Melbourne Airport could learn a lot from them, very poor service.

"a glorified bus terminal"

Used the New Terminal 4 for the first time, a true low cost terminal - badly designed. The Jetstar area is a long walk from the entrance, good luck if you have any mobility issues. Travelators should have been installed. There are no air bridges connecting to the aircraft, this should be essential in Melbourne due to bad weather most days. More of a glorified bus terminal - poor effort for a new terminal in 2015

"staff very unfriendly and officious"

I've always found moving through the international terminal at Melbourne Airport to be a fairly unpleasant experience, but I've really reached the end of my tether. Next time I fly I'm seriously considering going via Sydney. On my most recent departure there were the normal hour long queues. In the security queue I was pulled aside for a "random explosives test". The staff conducting the test were very unfriendly and officious. At the x-ray machine I had a roll of tape confiscated from my bag (somewhat understandable). Again though, more unfriendly staff, couldn't smile if they tried. After that was the line for outbound immigration. Probably at least 1,000 people in the queue. Only about 40% of the desks staffed (typical number). Not a particularly nice space to be queueing in either. No windows at all, and fairly stuffy. By the looks of it (and from what I read) they are installing some SmartGates at immigration. I think they were meant to be operating in October, but better late than never.

"2 custom control booths (out of 18) manned"

2 custom control booths (out of 18) manned for ordinary passengers - another 2 manned for fast track business and crew. Many custom officials mingling behind booths talking and laughing - not a good look after queuing for 1 hr 27 min. All this at the busiest time of the morning (6.00 till 9.00) when they know that most of the big Internationals come in.

"border control is consistently bad"

Been to many countries Melbourne border control is consistently bad, it usually take up to 30 minutes to clear immigration but this morning was 2 hours, in the international passport line, crying babies and chaos is the word. We queued for 45 mins then this younger officer with the most obnoxious look brought in from the back another line of people to merge into our queue, he then walked away. Of course there was angst amongst our line causing general argument between the people in the 2 merging lines. Complaint was made to a passing younger officer, he just avoided us and shrugged his shoulders. Another complaint was made to a female officer who was sympathetic but confused as to what was happening. I got out, much relieved, frustrated with Melbourne airports exorbitant charges where money is collected but no one really cares about the public. It is a case of money paid by tax payers, airlines, tourists but not monitored for cost efficiencies and accountability.

"airport is dirty and dated"

Surely the worst airport in Australia. We flew from Melbourne to Sydney on the 6th November and back on the 8th. The airport is dirty and dated, short of affordable food and drink and slow. Upon our return from Sydney the time it took from landing to leaving the Long Term carpark was just a few minutes less than our flight. A disgrace for what Melburnians call the "most liveable city".

"massive lines once again"

This airport obviously does not care to win any awards in customer satisfaction. We arrived to be greeted by massive lines once again in immigration-with so many customs staff hanging around watching the que grow by the minute. Seriously Melbourne - you're an embarrassment - you know the flight times so have a fair idea of how many people are arriving - get someone who understands data and customer satisfaction to improve this miserable arrival into Australia.

An absolute national embarrassment for our overseas visitors. I arrived from Europe just in transit to Sydney had to go thru customs with snaking queues back into the duty free shops, hours of waiting.

"it is a national embarrassment"

After a lovely holiday overseas there is nothing worse than arriving at Melbourne Airport and having to go through customs. They make you walk around in circles and more circles, than you get re-directed to another queue and have to wait even longer. It feels like being back at kindergarden, only they do it better there. I can only agree with a previous reviewer: it is a national embarrassment. Pick up parking is another disgrace with parking officers more interested in dishing out fines than being of assistance to passengers.
