"a 1 hr wait for passport control"

Trip Verified | As usual a 1 hr wait for passport control on arrival. The biometric passport scans are not in use once again. And all this in the brand new terminal 1b! No one to explain it, apologise and no priority for families with young children! Scandalous. Be prepared. Best to pretend that you need a wheelchair and then maybe you may get priority passage.

"Total and utter chaos"

Not Verified | Have you ever been through Stansted? Well Lyon is even worse, much much worse. The highlight is security. Total and utter chaos. The only moment of light relief is seeing all the empty shops after security, empty as by the time you’ve got there you’ve either run out of time already, or are worried how long forthcoming passport control will take, or just lost the will to live. Amazingly, this is a brand new airport! Avoid at all costs. Walk home if you have to rather than experience Lyon airport.

"Staff were really unhelpful"

Trip Verified | Worst airport I have visited and I travel alot. Arrived 2.5 hours ahead of time of flight departure from Lyon to London and almost missed my flight and that was with asking others if we could go ahead which is embarrassing as everyone was running late as well. Staff were really unhelpful, spent almost 30 min queuing for check-in, 30 min to just drop off oversized bags, and 1.15 hours queuing to pass security hour. Very stressful with 2 small kids in tow. What a shame as the new airport itself looks quite nice just the design and practicality has really not been well thought of. Will definitely look for alternatives to fly out of when we head to this region to ski.

"queues here are absolutely horrendous"

Not Verified | Just echoing other reviews. The queues here are absolutely horrendous. When checking in with my two year old son and wife, the security took ages with queues of people snaking. The worst experience of any airport I have ever travelled. I would advise people to arrive here a few hours before departing.

"Avoid this airport at all cost"

Trip Verified | Total rubbish. I've been to some bad airports (JFK for example) but this shiny new place just blew me away. Long walk to get to the terminal, utter chaos at the check in desks, snaking lines of people all the way into the terminal. Staff running around talking on radios looking stressed and not solving any problems. We almost missed our flight due to a broken oversized baggage belt. This caused much stress. A one point there were five senior members of staff talking on phones and radios without getting anything working. We are now missing a set of skis and a snowboard bag! Avoid this airport at all cost. As a previous poster wrote, fly into Geneva, light years ahead of the other local French airports.

"Lyon Airport was dreadful"

Trip Verified | Travelling back to Birmingham (UK) today from Lyon Airport was dreadful - my experience matched those reported here by other reviewers. No online check available, so long lines to check in, dreadful signage to and around the terminals, massively long walks once inside the building with no idea where you are going and finally security - what a joke! Only 3 security points open but no shortage of smartly dressed snooty “assistants” swanning around ready to patronise and boss around the ever lengthening queues of passengers but not actually facilitate the process. Some people got deferential treatment and were helped to queue jump - French people perchance? While others were directed to dead end points where they were left to fight their way into the line for trays on the conveyor belt. The delay meant that I had no chance to even look in the shops or get a coffee as the board was telling me to get to the gate - yet another long walk to my departure gate in C area where there are no shops or cafes. There was one pleasant member of staff - the security lady who very apologetically relieved me of a reblochon fermier cheese! Avoid this airport certainly until their building programme is finished and even then only use if you absolutely have to.

"avoid this terminal at all costs"

Not Verified | Departure experience at T1B was one of the worst ever in 20 years of business travel. This shiny new terminal was in utter chaos with queues for security snaking for miles with people becoming frustrated and angry. Especially so when they frequently stopped the queue moving to give priority to the people running late. I had arrived 2.5hrs before departure, something i rarely do, but i planned to eat my evening meal there but in fact only just got to the gate as the flight was boarding. All the staff that were present were mainly avoiding customers and speaking in phones - i thought something must have happened but from now reading these reviews it seems to be par for the course.On the run down to my gate there were many lovely new shops and restaurants, but guess what no customers as they were all stuck at security, that cannot be a sustainable way to run an airport. Surely if they just opened all the security points (8 out of 12 closed) this problem would be alleviated immediately, it cannot be that difficult can it?? I recommend to avoid this terminal at all costs, or be prepared for a very long wait! Arrival was ok, but on exiting the terminal the signs for the bus to the hire car offices were very hard to spot, i only found my way through as i'd been there before. The bus to the car hire places was packed and then of course everyone arrives at the same time so a huge queue quickly forms, a very poor situation.

"don't care about passengers"

Trip Verified | The management of this airport is very poor. By having discontented passengers you will not see them again and they will write a poor review. We travelled back to London on 27 Jan and had to walk miles along corridors without any information. Going security was ok but going through Passport checking was terrible. It was tiring and uncomfortable to stand for so long. I complained to the two passport officers and they said they were equally fed up, there should have been more officers. Our ticket included airport tax, didnt it ? That must include paying for passport officers. I always avoid Lyon airport, in the past I have found the toilets smelly, the annoucements in poor English, difficult to understand. I much prefer Geneva airport. Nothing gets better in Lyon, it seems they don't care about passengers.

"it is so badly organised"

Not Verified | This airport should be closed or transferred to ownership that cares about how to run an airport. I have to use Lyon 6 to 8 times a year as I have family near Lyon. I hate this place, it is so badly organised it is an embarrassment to the second city of France. The delays are unbelievable, and now in both directions. Do you wish to arrive at 22.30 and have to wait more than one hour to get through the border checks to your baggage? Do you wish to arrive 2 hours and 30 minutes before your flight and still miss it because of the complete ineptitude and disorganised nonchalance of the staff? If so then welcome to Lyon airport, if not then find another way. I recommend the train, the airports at Grenoble if possible or Geneva as the delay in driving from Switzerland will be less than getting through Lyon. If you want further evidence of the inability of the management at this airport to achieve anything then look at the fact that the new terminal has been under construction almost the entire time I have been travelling here and is still not finished. What should be finished is the jobs of the idiots that manage this place, surely there must be a pizza restaurant they could manage instead, just tell me where it is first so I can avoid it. I am very serious, do everything you can to avoid this airport, they are not just idiots it is also very very clear to me that they have no concern for passengers, never respond to complaints, at the time or subsequently, and they must be very well protected because this level of incompetence would not be tolerated in most other industrial workplaces. I vote this the worst airport in France!

"sheer chaos"

Trip Verified | Passport control at D gates in Terminal 1B is sheer chaos. Passengers such as myself, fit and able, wait for gate to be shown on the screens but by the time they reach passport control there are passengers for around 5 flights needing to have their passports checked by only 2 officers. It is thus impossible to reach one's gate before scheduled gate closure.
