Lviv Airport customer review

(United States)

I've been through Lviv 9 times in the last 2 years inadequate in terms of terminals. Always been treated very professionally by customs and immigration. I do not speak Ukrainian but have had no problems. Be polite and respectful they are doing the best with limited resources.

Lviv Airport customer review

Airport is quiet and bags were thrown onto a buggie by men who drove it to the terminal. There two armed army officials stood beside the door we entered through. The airport is dark no lights were on and archaic. Customs performed by rude russian speaking officers. Customs involved being yelled at by a woman demanding to search our bags and ignoring her by simply walking through. Picked up bags at a door where they were dumped straight from the plane through a door. It's no wonder our plane's crew stayed onboard re loaded and were out within 30 minutes! Booking flights here is a mess as all western airlines depart late in the day to accommodate their turnarounds.

Lviv Airport customer review

I have flown to/from Lviv several times dating back to 1996. The wait for baggage and going through customs is tedious I speak Ukrainian so language is no problem but don't like having to fill out the customs declaration which you have to keep in your passport until your return home. The last 2 times I flew there my baggage hasn't arrived even though there was an hour and a half between connecting flights and I had to go to the airport the next day to pick it up - LOT's fault not the airport. There airport is to be rebuilt with modern facilities in time for the European Football championships in 2012.

Lviv Airport customer review

I have to say that the experience at Lviv airport was extremely disappointing. Lviv is a wonderful city but inevitably the first impression most tourists arriving at this airport receive is that with this kind of an airport. The building is atrocious - nothing more than an elongated garage amenities are non-existant the people are completely non-service orientated - technology is laughable. The information available for tourists is difficult to find and it almost impossible for someone who doesnt speak Ukrainian to get to their hotel easily. I strongly suggest that if you intend to fly to Lviv go through Vienna. The traffic volume is lower through Vienna and the process through customs in Lviv therefore less harried. If you come in from Warsaw get your elbows up because it becomes an old-fashioned soviet bread-line fight to get to customs!

Domestic Flight from Lviv to Kiev but it really doesn't matter whether domestic or International. All facilities are very basic. On arrival all bagage is wheeled into the terminal on large trailers and a mad scramble starts to find your luggage. On departure the check-in desk was wheeled out from a cupboard sometime before the flight departs bags are weighed on a large floor scale away from the desk. Take your bags through security and load them onto the large trailers in the waiting area. I have been advised to always pay the 25rph to get bags stretchwrapped prior to flying anywhere in the Ukraine. Quaint Backward Inefficient but part of the travelling experience!

Lviv Airport customer review

Considering what a gem the city is it really deserves a better Airport! The train station is a palace but it's quite a long (overnight) ride from almost any other major city tourists might come from - better air service could do wonders for the economy. As is the airport has all the charm and amenities of a glorified bus station. Arrival was simply being let down the stairs onto the tarmac (in the rain) and strolling over to the garage-like arrival area. After a wait a tractor loaded with the luggage backed into the middle of the crowd and the bags were shoved off for everyone to rummage through and find. If it hadn't been for the business relation meeting me in the main building I'm not sure how I would have wound up at my hotel -- directions and transportation clearly haven't been set up for the international market yet. As noted it's quite a shame as Lviv is a real gem of a city and the gateway to some truly incredible countryside and seemingly long-forgotten rural areas and historic towns!

I just had a very positive experience at this unusual airport. The customs lady friendly and English-speaking helped me get honey and preserves from my grandfather's village back to the States. The place itself is minimal to say the least.

Lviv airport is surreal. The main waiting room has no bathroom currency exchange or restaurant/cafe. Just an old vending machine. There are no monitors or the kind of electronic devices we've come to expect in international airports. Information? Forget about it. You board the airplane on mobile staircase that can only accommodate three passengers at a time since the airport attendents can't figure out how to connect it properly to the plane. We got through both ways but I wouldn't call the experience comforting or pleasurable.

Lviv Airport customer review

Used this airport in December 2007 for a domestic flight to Kyiv - it is a small airport and there are no check-in counters or TV screens with flight information. There is just a large waiting room with a few benches and desks and a big weight scale. 15 Minutes before the flight was supposed to leave 2 ladies and one man came to start the check-in process. There was a coffee/drinks machine in the waiting room and a small bar around the corner. It is all very limited but it works.

Used it twice couple weeks ago. The airport is tiny and is located in the residential area so landing there is a curious experience: you can see what people are doing within their houses just from your landing plane. Runway is short so 737 is a maximum size of aircraft that can land there. All facilities are outdated and primitive there is no any food outlet but everything worked fast. They don't have computerized check-in but my e-ticket was accepted with no question. You are off the airport in 3-5 minutes from disembarkation on domestic and 10 minutes on international flight. Certainly city like Lviv (1 mln population) deserves normal airport rather than this old shabby tip[ical soviet era provincial terminal but number of flights to Lviv is small (5-10 daily I beleive) so there is no inverstor for any project in this area. It is clean it has trolleybus link to the city center (25 mins ride) staff are polite and helping. It is not great and beautiful but is abolutely bearable and functiionally enough for the traffic volumes it serves. Destination from Lviv are limited but as I assumed from the timetable you can fly here from Kiev Moscow Frankfurt Warsaw Barcelona Naples Madrid Rome and from somewhere in Romania.
