Luton Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

How can this airport get away with this terrible treatment of its customers? From the outrageous fleecing of drop off charges to the total inconsiderate way passengers are handled. Stansted is not immune from these issues their charges and attitudes to the inconvenience of having to deal with customers is pretty appalling also.

Don't go to this airport if you can help it. It is an absolute disgrace this airport is only concerned with ripping off the passengers. They charge £2.50 for driving through for a 5 second drop off and the money is obviously not reinvested in the disgraceful signage and roadwork. Also when we got to security they made us pay for a seal-able bag but could not tell us what was wrong with the one we had which was the same size and has been used in four other airports.

Avoid this airport it is a disgrace. The aim here is to fleece you for being dropped off in a car borrow a trolley for a non refundable £2 and then be subjected to appalling and unnecessary queues. Add to this the rude and aggressive border control staff on return and you have the recipe for a very stressful start and finish to your holiday. In future I'm going from Heathrow and Gatwick instead even though Luton is my local airport.

Terrible. Chaotic poor signage and long queues. The car park buses are rubbish - crowded infrequent and lots of people stressed out with trying to get past each other with baggage. I can't believe they charge £2 for trolleys in baggage claim! It took us 90 minutes to get through passport control and reclaim baggage. Our flight was only two hours! I'll never fly from here again. They really don't seem to care about people at all. They think of us as cattle.

For all those who do not know Luton Airport have now increased the drop off charge to £2.50. I think an increase of 25% in these days of 1% inflation is quite outrageous. £2.00 was already too much for an airport which does nothing to invest these funds into improving the passenger experience. The changing prices also are a major contributor to the delays on the approach road to the airport since people are unaware of the changing price structure and often do not have the necessary change when arriving at the exit barrier. It is time that the operators at this airport started considering their passengers instead of just lining their own pockets.

Luton Airport customer review

We arrived at Luton this morning 2 hours before our flight. A total shambles. Massive queue for Easyjet bag drop and massive queues at security. Our party of 7 missed our flight despite being at the airport in the queue the recommended 2 hours before the flight. Desks were closed yet queues snaking out of the terminal. How can you justify this? Result - we've missed 2 days of our holiday. Totally Chaotic and nobody knew what was going on. Very very disappointed in Luton and Easyjet.

Will never fly from Luton again. The charges for dropping people off for a couple of seconds is ridiculous. So much for saying even a quick goodbye to a loved one before you fly off somewhere. The design of the pick up and drop off area is also very bad cars don't know where to go not enough space causing unnecessary agitation. The entrance to the airport itself is not exactly very wide for the constant and large number of people piling into the airport throughout the day. The check-in desks are badly placed in one row meaning that the queues all merge into one. It's not always easy to see where one queue starts and ends. Then the airlines have more than one flight in one queue. Security - the whole area is far too small and then there is the unnecessary amount of queue/line dividers where you have to walk up and down up and down. The security check itself was ok. As long as you make sure you have removed everything you need to in advance then it can be efficient passing through the detector and putting your bits in the X-Ray machine. My experience on the last couple of occasions at Luton is that because security took so long there was no time to do anything else in the airport after security. No shopping no time for a drink or something to eat nothing. On return the passport control staff were quite rude. The luggage area was slow but in my experience at many airports this takes time so I cannot complain too much about this. The wait was a bit long but not too bad - only thing that wasn't a horrific experience really. Although I have been before where it has taken long or the belt has broken. The charges are the most ridiculous I have experienced anywhere I have been in this world. Charges for a trolley that you don't get back charges to be picked up and dropped off for a matter of minutes/seconds charges to have a tiny clear plastic bag charges for everything and no evidence of what the money is going to? The whole experience has put me off ever going from Luton again. It's in such a convenient location for many people so if it could be improved it would be a lot better but unfortunately for many the only way to improve it would be to expand it because of the volume of people and flights that pass through each day which is a lot. I live nearby and see the amount of flights coming and going which is a lot and the airport just cannot handle it.

Avoid this airport at all costs-staff rude access impossible poorly managed ground services awful ambience dreadful queues everywhere for everything-and a charge for anything that allows the airport to make money-truly dreadful. 1) Allow at least an hour to access the airport on exiting the M1 etc. Traffic at 05.30 (peak time) backs up and you will be caught in it. 2) Have £2 at the ready for a 45 second drop off fee. They should pay you! 3) The airport security process was poor-just about tolerable in early May--but will be truly awful in July and August-avoid. 4) Airside lounge a horror lounge in every single regard. 5) On arrival a week later-30 minute very slow moving passport queue. 6)Baggage to collect? Forget it. Aircraft arrived at 12.50-luggage on belt 14.10 (yes- 1 hour and 20 minutes). 7) Traffic awful at exit-due to guess what? Road works. 8) If you are coming by train- allow an hour for the bus to get up the traffic jammed hill from the station.

Luton airport is far and away the worst airport in Britain - if you have opportunity to fly from any other airport then do so. If you have no alternative then don't go! Awful staff no idea of customer care dreadful security and non existent assistance for disabled customers. Dreadful catering expensive drinks and laughable no lamentable "Executive" lounge. When returning it gets worse - the single worst passport/ border control in Europe. 3rd World standards at West End prices. Shocking.

This has to be the worst airport in the world. I travel frequently and Luton has to rate as one of the worst experiences in the world. Here are a few gripes: 1) The airport is dirty. 2) The security check in area is unpleasant and would appear to be deliberately slow in an obvious attempt to get people to pay an additional charge for a fast track security check. 3) Where else in the world are people charged for dropping passengers off? 4) Where else in the world do you pay for a trolley and don't get your money back? 5) The area around the airport entrance is a foul place full of smokers and cheap and tacky food and coffee stalls. I could go on but suffice to say that when I HAVE to use the airport my heart always sinks. As a passenger you feel you are just getting fleeced and getting nothing in return.
