"huge queue for border control"

I have been using Luton airport nearly every week for the last 6 weeks or so. Every time I land it's the same huge queue for border control. Once I even queued on the tarmac in the rain whilst we slowly trudged in through security it took over an hour that day and regularly takes 20 mins to half an hour.

"45 minutes through passport control"

Verified Review | Landed at Luton Airport at midnight and it took 45 minutes to get through passport control. Signs saying new expanded airport will be here soon but this has been going on years. Car parking is a nightmare. Charges for drop off are a rip off. Not enough seating and not enough e-gates. Awful airport. How many years this has been going on?

"cannot handle the amount of passengers"

About 10 years ago Luton Airport was a nice little efficient departure and arrival point. Easy to drop off with no fee. Made a good start to our holidays. At the moment the airport cannot handle the amount of passengers. The parking idea is useless as is the pick up and drop off swindle. The approach roads are comical as if you feel like laughing at the time. There is a confusing amount of directions in the departure lounge once having sorted this out it is too far to walk to the gates my wife is partially disabled and similarly myself (80). There should be transport from departure to the gates (moving walkway etc). Most airports do suffer from chaos due to flight delays or other problems but Luton remain in chaos 88% of the time and talking to other people they agree. There doesn't seem to be a future plan that makes any sense. Reduce the number of flights before continuing on the downward spiral. I will not be using Luton again neither will many other people. I found it far easier to drive round to Gatwick and pay a hotel for parking and a room than going through the misery of Luton.

"worst airport I have ever used"

The worst airport I have ever used and still they have the cheek to take our money. 1) The luggage took 45 mins to unload, when I asked the manager why he was very casual about it. 2) They closed the Ladies loo for cleaning minutes before an arrival where the flight had been delayed for over an hour, poor timing. When they finished, the bathroom was still dirty. We had long queues. 3) Ugly decor, downbeat atmosphere, then uou have to take a shuttle bus just to get to the train station, got home to Essex 4.5 hours after landing. Ridiculous. Southend is the best. Cheap to travel from there too.

"it is total chaos"

Worst airport in the world. I travel frequently for work and have never experienced an airport like this. The queue to get to the airport was ridiculous. The charge for drop off is criminal. Once inside it is total chaos. It is my closest airport but I choose to travel to fly from elsewhere rather than use Luton.

"with reluctance I use London Luton"

Verified Review | I travel a lot by air. Because it is the closet international airport to my home, with reluctance I use London Luton around once a month. I use other UK airports about the same in total. London Luton is by far the worst, even making allowances for the work currently being carried out. Famously, Luton used to create long security queues and then charge for fast-tracking them, charges for drop off, at a point that at present requires a long walk to the terminal open to the elements. The only executive lounge has insufficient capacity and refuses entry often. Many of the 'low cost' carrier gates are in areas with no climate control, bake in summer, freeze in winter standing in a stairwell waiting to board. But the biggest insult is that there is no taxi rank at the airport - yes that's right, you cannot get a public hire taxi at Luton Airport, so far as I am aware it is the only one in the world that has such a restriction. The only option is an Addison Lee private hire 'limousine' at prices that make even London black cabs seem reasonable. I have on occasion elected to use East Midlands or Birmingham International, both at least an hour longer to drive from home, rather than Luton. My advice: unless you are an airport masochist or really have no choice then do not use Luton, and goodness knows what overseas tourists think.

"very positive experience"

I was dreading flying out today, but I have had an amazing experience. From bag drop to security the staff incredibly Helpful. My husband who always set's off the alarm when he goes through security was called over and dealt with by a very polite man, asking if the knee operation had been successful. All in all a great experience even the drop off area was much easier to find than I had been led to believe. A very positive experience!

"mainly surly staff"

The first thing greeting you on arrival is a £3.00 charge for dropping off passengers! This is for a max of 3 minutes, and charged at £1.00 for each additional minute. One of our party has reduced mobility issues, and was told to wait for about an hour, as everyone was busy - she got around this by commandeering a wheelchair, and pushing herself along! Next to security - you have to pay £1.00 for those plastic bags to put your liquids in. Once into the x-ray and search area, and a collection of mainly surly staff supervising the loading of you boxes, and calling everyone 'Darling' when giving commands. After security, the next bit involves sitting for up to 2 hours in a very crowded area, with a selection of the usual eating outlets. We opted for queuing (again) at Frankies & Bennies, but once seated, were dealt with by a very good & friendly waiter (probably because he's not employed by Luton Airport!)

"chaos in the arrivals hall"

Just appalling in every way at Luton Airport. 20 mins stuck on plane waiting for someone to open the door to the terminal. Then chaos in the arrivals hall. Then no buses to take you to the car park. No-one taking any control of the situation. Staff disinterested. Ashamed to be British. Why can't we get this better?

"it's a disgrace"

I used Luton airport last year for the first time in many years. I wasn't impressed with it. Yesterday we got back from another trip to Menorca with easyJet. The flights each time were good and on time, so no moans there. We used the Long Term parking on site, booking was easy online. The road to the car park is a bit third world but once through the barrier everything was OK. The shuttle bus didn't take long to arrive and we were soon in the terminal building. Now, if anyone wants to see what Luton airport was like in 1972 I suggest they go there now. It's a disgrace. We arrived back late last night but had to wait on the plane 20 minutes for ground staff to watch us walk across 20 yards of tarmac. We then had a long hike into the luggage hall. The place needs knocking down and rebuilding. One final thing, for the second year running, despite pre booking online, when we tried to exit the car park, the machine said we owed £172. A short conversation resolved it but I never get this treatment at other airports. The place is best avoided in my opinion.
