London Stansted Airport

Having flown Ryanair from Stansted around 10 times in the last 12 months I don't think there is much to complain about. There has been a huge improvement in Security and although the queue's sometimes look horrendous they actually move quite quickly. The longest I have had to wait is 20 minutes through Security but that was at the start of a bank holiday. Most of the time I get to the airport an hour before the flight and wonder what the rush was all about. Security usually takes 5-10 minutes 15 minutes max. Passport control is usually fairly rapid although it was extremely busy around two weeks ago which I didn't expect turning up on a Monday night at 11pm. That being said it was the end of a bank holiday and was caused be sheer volume of people more than anything else. What can you do! To be fair all 25 or so security desks were staffed and the queue looked worse than it was. 20 minutes it took to get through. It looked more like 2 hours from the back! Still there were a lot of people complaining. I guess most people haven't got any tolerance for slight delay these days and expect everything to happen instantly! I suppose what the staff should have done on that occasion is reassure people at the back that the wait is only 20 minutes as it really did look like we would be there all night causing people to get agitated and stressed. Living in Cambridge I find the airport highly accessible. 30 minutes drive down a motorway with easy car parks or 30 minute direct train straight into the terminal. Maybe I would be a little miffed if my end destination was the centre of London but unless you fly to City Airport then all London airports have similar logistical problems.

Over 2 hour delays getting through passport control today again this is unacceptable. I will not be using Stansted again.

What is it with passport Control at Stansted? Arrived last Friday night at 11.30pm to be confronted with a 1000 plus people waiting to clear passport control. Why does that keep happening. Surely they know how many flights are coming in and when. Why does someone not manage the situation. My flight from Portugal was 95% Portuguese. What a wonderful welcome to Britain I don't think. I have travelled into larger and busier airports than Stansted throughout Europe (Paris Amsterdam Rome) and have never faced treatment like this. There were no announcements to tell people there was an automatic passport facility and no one managed the queues to ensure people were processed quickly.

It looks fabulous but inside is a mine of ineptitude bad design and the most uncomfortable walking and train journey imaginable. On one occasion the trains broke down and the platform became dangerously overcrowded - and nothing was done about it. Immigration queues can be horrendous. The food on offer is restricted uninspiring and factory made; ghastly! Even the shops are mediocre. Overall a usually unpleasant experience. If you can fly from Norwich nearby then do so! The truth is that Stansted is torture time consuming and one to avoid if I can!

We were due to fly out from Stansted yesterday to Florence with the dreaded Ryanair having booked through Expedia and not directly with Ryanair. It took us over half an hour to clear security and enter the departure lounge. This was an 8.20 am flight which was delayed and delayed again ending with an email message from Ryanair that we had a choice of rebooking any flight anytime any destination free of charge or claim a refund. This is when the Airport failings began: We discovered that we could not make contact with the airline office inside the departure lounge we were told and reassured that once we were ushered out by airport staff to go to Ryanair desk we would be able to re enter from the same exit with no problems. When we tried to re enter we were asked to go though security all over again and that we could not take in the duty free we had purchased inside the airport which we ended in discarding. Once you are in the departure lounge you are cattled in and if you need to do as we needed you end up with our experiences.

I have flown from Stansted many times and every time vow that it will be the last. The terminal seriously lacks facilities and doesn't have the best selection of shops and restaurants. The queuing times especially around Ryanair Zone are absolutely ridiculous and disorganised. The car parking is absolutely extortionate even charging now for passenger pick up and drop off! Security staff are miserable and last time I travelled I even found random liquids after security in my bag I forgot to take out that were over 100ml that they didn't even pick up on which worries me what else they may have missed in screening!

Same old Stansted Airport shambolic at best! Sunday night 11.30pm and its a 90 minute cattle market queue at passport control and with no info / help from the staff. I shouldn't be surprised though it was the same last week and the week before! Don't book your onward travel in advance!

Arrived at the airport to start the wonderful experience of Stansted airport. A disorganised cattle market - an hour and a half to get through passport control on the way out. Once on the other side there were no facilities people sitting and lying on the floor as there is no way near enough seats for the volume of people. The restaurants were abysmal and the staff were beyond any intelligence whatsoever. I thought it could get better but no. People were running up the corridors and people were falling and tripping over the suitcases - it was chaos! We then returned on 17th at midnight to find chaos had resumed. It took an hour to get through passport control kids everywhere crying a total mess! We eventually got through to the next experience of the long stay car park. Too far from the airport badly sign-posted. Mind you the airport earned even more out of us - £108 for parking our car for 5 nights! Shocking! I travel abroad 10 times a year - 3 with family. I live in Essex and I will never ever use Stansted again - I will use Gatwick airport!

I had never flown from Stansted before. I assumed that as it is a relatively small airport it would facilitate an easy departure. How very wrong I was. I had requested some special assistance as I had just had an operation on my foot. This never materialised and I had no option but to struggle alone. The check in staff at Thomson were aloof and not at all friendly. When a wheelchair finally arrived I ended up being the last person to be boarded. I felt very uncomfortable being ignored and found the experience to be disappointing in the extreme. I have vowed never to venture inside this airport again. I would not recommend it. It is poorly run and disorganised. There is no friendliness imparted by the staff who work there. I struggle to see why anyone would wish to fly anywhere from here. Public transport connections are poor. You could find yourself stranded for several hours.

I was furious at the check-in system at Stansted treated worse than cattle - a total shambles. I could not believe it when I found this site last night with the same complaints as mine dating back to November .Clearly Stansted management do not care about their clients who keep them in business!
