"Better communication is required"

Not Verified | After queuing for baggage, checkin etc you arrive at security for baggage check, a sign says 15 to 20 minutes in line. In fact it took us 46 minutes to clear this area resulting in my family missing the flight. The last bus out to the plane had left 7 minutes earlier. Better communication is required and then people could decide to go through fast check. I for one will not be using this airport or Tap in future, preferring to go through Spain

“incompetence of the staff is astounding”

Trip Verified | This is the worst airport I have ever experienced. Got to the airport T1 and got told by staff that the flight was now in Terminal 2 (even though KLM doesnt operate there). Caught the shuttle to T2. Got to T2 and lo and behold we asked again and said we should be in T1. When we arrived back at T1, we lined up only to lose our queue in the line 4x as the staff were frantically telling passengers to form snaking queues across the concourse and around the centre pillar - a simple fix - put up the portable barriers with signage. (Which they did, the barriers after irate passengers (myself included kept asking “which line is it now?”) - And the incompetence of the staff is astounding. All everyone got were shrugged shoulders and eyes glazed like primary school kids. The thing that baffles me is that this problem would be experienced everyday, so why not just put up the barriers each morning? This would fix 80% of the chaos? We eventually dropped off luggage AFTER 2 Hours!! The security check was relatively efficient but after that there was another long bolt thru a long snaking Duty Free shopping area to the gate. Why is this shopping area so huge when u havent got ur basics right? An airport is an important infrastructure where passengers/visitors to your country need efficient, structured and safe service. This chaos /incompetence does not fill any passenger with confidence and will only impede portugals desire to be a tourist hub. We only hope and pray that the aircraft controls and maintenance services are on point so we can fly away from this disaster of an airport.

"the worst airport ever"

Trip Verified | This is the worst airport ever. It has nothing to offer, and has absolutely no sense to its structure. Why would you put shops and restaurants between security and customs. Essentially this does not allow Schengen flying passengers to access facilities in non-Schengen flying gates. There is no cigarette smoking lounge in the terminal anymore, and the only place to smoke is in the ANA lounge or through a €36 pass that can only be bought through the Revolut app? Why keep a smoking lounge for vapers only? Makes absolutely no sense.

"an endless embarrassment for Portugal"

Trip Verified | Airports are places where there is a lot of stress for passengers, for example to comply with schedules; if airport employees are not capable of realizing this, they shouldn't be working in an airport. A security official shouted outrageously at two passengers who were simply trying to get under the security line tapes because the turns were redundant. He also tried to dissuade another late passenger from asking others to skip the queue. The atmosphere at this airport is catastrophic, from the terrible infrastructure to the oddly bad service. It's an endless embarrassment for Portugal and also the biggest obstacle to transforming the country into a natural connectivity hub.

"exceptionally badly run airport"

Not Verified | Firstly we had a very long queue for baggage clearance. About 1/2 hour before our flight, we found ourselves in an another exceptionally long queue for passport control and access to the gate. That wasnt moving much so we switched to the queue for the automatic gate before we were told we were unable to use it. We rejoined the long queue. As we were afraid of missing our flight we asked other passaengers if we could advance which they allowed us to. At the front of the queue(now about 20 mins before departure), an airport staff member told us and insisted to go to the back of the queue even though she knew this meant we would miss our flight. There was no attempt to find out which passengers might miss also the flight. There were only two passport control staff who were taking their time and didn't make any effort to speed things up. In fact they seemed to be working as slowly as possible Inevitably we missed our flight. We now realise this is a very badly run airport where there are too few staff who are stressed. not supported or motivated to make things easier and better for passengers. This is not what we found while visiting Portugal where customer service is generally excellent and friendly. Fortunately the airline staff were very helpful and booked us onto a later flight. This is bad management and an exceptionally badly run airport.

“very disappointed with the service”

Trip Verified | It talks very badly for a city who can't decide to build - and actually start building - a new airport, while Lisbon airport deteriorates rapidly, as if it wasn't already mediocre at best. Now planes delay their take off on origin (?!) due to traffic 'diversions' in Lisbon airport. Buses don't arrive when airplanes park.

Trip Verified | As a frequent traveler to this airport for work, I can confirm that the situation has not improved. The airport is a chaotic mess, overcrowded, dirty, and in a state of disrepair. There are always long lines, confusing signage, and exhausted staff. During peak hours, the passport control area is a disaster zone, with dozens of passengers missing their connecting flights. People become desperate and start jumping queues and arguing with the staff. It took my father and me three hours to clear immigration and customs. Portugal has done a great job of marketing itself as the next big tourist destination in Europe, only to realize that it lacks the infrastructure to handle the growing number of visitors. Good luck navigating this airport, you'll need it.

“worst Airport I have ever visited”

Trip Verified | Literally the worst Airport I have ever visited. Nothing is intuitive for finding your terminal or check in gate, you just have to wander around, and ask two people that work there, with only the second person being correct with their directions. Then you wait in line to scan your tickets, wait in a second line to process bags, then wait in a third line to check passports (all three can, and should be done at once). Then we get to check in one more time at our gate, where the money grubbing TAP Portugal, tells us we can check our carry ons, have to pay and additional $125, to check bag. Really wonderful city, but it like 0 thought was put into the layout and functionality of this airport. They are more interested in pushing you through their mall located in the Airport, then getting people to their flights in a timely manner. Wifi is also terrible.

"took her 10 minutes to process us"

Not Verified |   Its difficult to know where to start, but I'll confine myself to passport control. For a 10-50 am flight to Dublin My son and myself arrived at Lisbon airport at 8-00 am and very nearly missed our flight. Checking in was slow but we still had adequate time to make our flight, or so we thought. After a long badly sign posted walk to passport control, the fun started. After an hour standing in the queue for passport control the police officer had processed about 10 to 12 people in our queue, there were still approximately 100 people in front of us. Unless we did something I would consider unthinkable we were going to miss our flight, so we did. We became queue jumpers. I apologize to all the other passengers. I had approached staff and informed them of our situation but to no avail. When we got to the passport control officer it took her 10 minutes to process us. During this time I watched as other officers processed at least 5 groups of people. She handled our passports as if they had they just fallen out of a sewage plant, but didn't feel the need to wear any gloves? We only made the flight because so many passengers were late it was delayed. They all had similar stories to tell. We loved the city of Lisbon and its people but I could not possibly go back due to the conditions at the airport and the attitude of its staff, in particular passport control.

"whole airport is very congested"

Trip Verified | Terminal 2 is more practical and easier to transit than the main Terminal 1. The whole airport is very congested, planes are remotely parked, often you have to wait inside the airplane due to intense traffic, staff are however this airport's weakest point, they are either stressed out or their hiring process didn't include psychothecnic exams. It is however very central which is very convenient.
