"quite efficient regional airport"

(Netherlands)

Leeds/Bradford is a nice and quite efficient regional airport. On arrival it looks a bit dated and most of the flights will arrive on 'walking gates', so you will arrive on a bus position which is aligned with a walking pier leading to the terminal. If arriving on mainline carrier like KL or BA, you usually will be offered one of the two Jetway positions. Arrival is efficient, on my (multiple) late morning arrivals with KL, there is always plenty of immigration officers present and usually only no to a very short queue. Luggage on arrival is delivered efficiently and the delay with checked bags usually is below 10 minutes. With a bit of luck and a good ground crew, your bag already turned one or two rounds on the carousel once you passed through immigration. Arrival facilities are limited, no duty free on arrival (which I would not expect on an airport in the size of LBA), but efficient way-out to the taxi stands and ground transportation. Taxi / Hired Car is conveniently arranged in a booth in front of the terminal, you pay up front and the driver will take you to your destination. Public transport is limited to Bus/Coach, but there are sufficient choices available next to cabs. Departure facilities are a bit dated and check-in could be bit more airy from the architecture, but once you reach departure level, the facilities are adequate for a 3 million pax airport, a bit dated but the airport currently is stepwise renwing all the facilities. Airside smoker facilities are also available, but for an entry charge of 1 GBP, but no consumption necessary. It is located in the basement near the lower number gates and is signed in all the airside departure area. Fast track is available against 6 GBP payment or from SkyTeam Elite status and higher. Watch out if you're travelling in bad weather conditions, fog can easily stop the traffic for the whole day, flights from mainland europe usually divert to Edinburgh or even Newcastle and you will then be coached to LBA.

"we experienced no issues"

(United Kingdom)

Flew out to Dublin at 0630. The airport was very quiet and we experienced no issues. A short outdoors walk to our plane. On our return we parked very close to the terminal (think it was the same spot we left from) but then had to board a bus which was a long time before it set off on what proved to be a very short ride of a couple of hundred yards or so, I dont know why a bus was needed. It would have been far quicker walking. No customs or baggage reclaim hold ups but again the airport was very quiet. The worst part was the pick up / drop off fees of £3.00 a time - a rip off for the time taken. Overall a good experience apart from the drop off / pick up fees.

"no seats provided though"

(United Kingdom)

I cannot believe the length of the walk from the aircraft, Jet2 from Ibiza 25/10/15, to the passport control. Returning from holiday with my 85 year old parents, this was a nightmare. Both are perfectly capable of walking a reasonable distance, but even I, at age 63, found this a trial. The plane parked at the furthest away point from the terminal. No shuttle bus was provided and the walk is in a cold, "plastic tunnel". We had to stop for a rest twice on route, no seats provided though. There must surely be a Health and Safety issue here somewhere and its amazing that, as yet, elderly people have not collapsed. I was really worried. For me - No thanks Leeds, Manchester airport in the future.

"very cramped and badly laid out"

(United Kingdom)

Leeds Bradford basically runs at a capacity that it was never designed for. It is very cramped and badly laid out. You're always very near to other groups of people. There is only one main bar dining area, which is almost always competely full, with little seating. There is nowhere where you can sit and relax in a peaceful coffee bar type environment in your own space. The bar often has queues. Unless you live so near to this airport that it's very convenient, there is no way I would recommend it. This airport should have had it's flight numbers capped a long time ago and become a small domestic airport, with a proper international airport purpose built somewhere in the Leeds vicinity. The Location of this airport is such that it is plagued by fog and on several occasions, I have been diverted. A very big issue for me is parking charges. They actually charge you £2 (maybe even more by now), to drive in, drop off or pick up and leave 5 minutes later - Appalling rip off. Another rip off is that there's a fully monopolised Taxi service. If you want to flag a cab outside the airport, forget it. You have to use the over-priced franchised Arrow cab service, whose prices are significantly higher than the standard Hackney Carriage rates for the Leeds area. If you make your own taxi arrangements, you'll have to meet them outside the pick-up and drop-off area, as they too have to pay a fee to enter the pick-up and drop-off area. That's a disgrace, though I'd advise anyone to get organised and call a local private hire company in advance to have them waiting in the car park for your flight arrival. Even with the pick-up parking charge, you'll save a significant amount, especially if you live 10+ miles away. To summarise, this airport only survives, because the average person is not discerning. Especially the stage and hen party crowds that you often see in the airport bar, knockng back alcohol in the early morning hours.

"it was rather dismal"

(United Kingdom)

Never travel from this airport. Although the queuing time was rather quick, once through to the departure lounge it was rather dismal, nothing to keep young children entertained and not many shops to pass the time. Even worse is the arrival, having to walk a distance with two young children to find rude and miserable security people, then to hear that there is no staff to sort baggage out and waiting over an hour for the carousel to even start moving, without any bags, then another 20 minutes for a few bags to make an appearance, prams not coming off until near the end. It's not rocket science, if prams are on board it generally means parents are in need of them, sooner rather than later. To find that the only point of refreshments are a vending machine and guess what they are all empty. Get your act together, you must know when flights are due therfore you should ensure that there are enough staff working. Truly horrendous, a bad end to a fab holiday.

"get your act together"

(United Kingdom)

Terrible airport for departures even worse for arrivals. Departures - Poor signage outside for first time users. From the drop off area to the terminal building you have an outside walk of approximately 50mts. Not good in the rain or snow. Long wait to get to bag drop, even longer to get through security. The wait to obtain food prior to departure was 20 minutes just for a burger. Not enough seats for the number of people in the food hall. To reach the aircraft you have a long walk before reaching the boarding steps into the aircraft. Arrivals - Long walk from aircraft to passport control. (No self scan passport terminals). We had to wait in a long queue before reaching the passport control desks (only four open to deal with passengers from three flight arrivals) it took over 25 minutes just to get through passport control). Baggage carousel was chaotic. From deplaning to leaving the airport took over one hour. Passenger drop off and pickup if you have friends doing that for you will cost £3.00 each time, much more if they stay a little over ten minutes. Come on Leeds Bradford airport, get your act together. In the airport I saw signs saying welcome to Yorkshire. Well from my experience if the airport really wants to welcome and attract both leisure and business travellers you need to make vast improvements. Manchester airport for me in future.

"limited seating area"

(United Kingdom)

Think it is shocking we have to pay £1 to go for a smoke what is the world coming to. As if it is not enough you have to pay for drop of and pick up. Limited seating area. Sat on plane for half an hour waiting for bus to take us to terminal. Doncaster and East Midlands Airport from now on. Bye bye Leeds Bradford.

"poor choice of expensive food"

(United Kingdom)

Nowhere to sit, poor food, dreadful access, overly officious security staff in a badly organised departure. People have nowhere to sit down while waiting to go to their gate. Poor choice of expensive food. At the gates no covered walkways and having to go outside in all weather. Absolute dump.

"someone should pay more attention to customer service"

(United Kingdom)

After a smooth exit through Palma Airport, we arrived at LBA glad to be back home. Then the nightmare began - firstly a long walk to the baggage area. 3 small carousels and no seating. We waited about an hour before any movement and some 15 minutes later we retrieve our bags. Next out to the taxi stand - not one taxi in sight. The booking office inform me of a waiting time of at least 30 minutes. I decided to phone a local private hire who promptly sent a car within 15 minutes costing an extra £3 on top of the fare to exit the site. £3 for less than a 1 minute pick-up. Maybe someone should pay more attention to customer service.
