"how can an airport be this poor"

(United Kingdom)

Unverified | Absolutely poor, what airport takes at least half an hour to check your passport, for departing? Toilets weren't even satisfactory, an airport is the first impression that tourists see, how can an airport be this poor? I recommend you to eat beforehand, as there are not a lot of restaurants at the airport especially after the security check.

"totally impressed with the space"

(Indonesia)

Verified Review | I do extensive travelling through Asia so must rely on airports for transit. My favourites have always been Hong Kong and Singapore but my last two stops have been through Kuala Lumpur's fantastic KLIA and KLIA2 terminals. I am totally impressed with the space, transport, shops, eateries and efficiency of this airport. The courtesy and helpfulness of their immigration staff is something all other airports could learn from. I'm from New Zealand but reside in Bali, Indonesia, and Bali's airport immigration staff, in particular could take a lesson from their neighbours professional immigration staff. My only criticism of KLIA is there are no snooze lounges like in Singapore, somewhere for transit passengers to take a quick nap.

"hoped they had improved but clearly not"

(Thailand)

Verified Review | Shock arrival at KLIA Kuala Lumpur Airport, be prepared to wait 2-3 hours as immigration queues were around the block, so hard on the elderly and families with kids. The staff couldn't cope at all, totally ineffective and useless. I would avoid KLIA in the future, they see the massive queues with a lack of any attempt to help. Those of you who think fast track / business and first class queues, well I was in that queue and it took me 1.5 hours. From reports the same happens at the budget terminal. I came a few years ago, it was the same, I had hoped they had improved but clearly not.

"a boring, dirty and annoying experience"

(Sweden)

Verified Review | My flight was at 5 am. So we were in airport at 2am. We didn't find any restaurants or any duty free open for us. Toilets were not cleaned at all, it was so dirty like a local bus station. It was a boring, dirty and annoying experience. They don't have many airport information staff around to help.

"through immigration after 2.5 hours"

(United States)

Verified Review | I was boarding AK347 of Air Asia from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur in order to transit to SGN the same day. As AK did not check my luggage all the way to SGN, I had to go through immigration and picked up my luggage in KLIA2, then drag my luggage upstairs to departure and check in and went through immigration again. It was a mess since thousand of passengers arrived at the same time. There was no one to direct arriving passengers to get in line properly. There was a shortage of staff there I can tell. Immigration officer are fed up. They don't care if you have to catch another flight soon. One of the officers I asked that told me that "no cutting" was allowed, only first come first serve. But the line was so bad, at least 70-80 people on each line, and a line with 4-5 persons in each row. It was chaos. I was nervous that I could not make it to get on my second flight to SGN. I had to get back to the end of another line which seem moving faster. I was happy that I made it through the immigration after 2.5 hours. I would like to inform passengers that if you take budget air lines like Air Asia, you need to take a look at transit time in KUL T2. Make sure you have at least 4 hours to check out and check in at KLIA2. I hope Air Asia and KUL airport to look into this problem and fix it ASAP.

"seems to work well overall"

(Australia)

Verified Review | Kuala Lumpur is a huge airport, the satellite terminal too is massive. After reading the reviews I was concerned however from arrival to passed immigration only took 20 mins. The timing must have been right. We had a baggage carousel change, and it was slow. Around 45 mins. This is a large cavernous airport. Not terribly clean, especially the toilets. Leaving and getting through immigration didn't take long, You go through a preliminary baggage screen then a thorough one at the gate. Then you are placed in a pre-boarding area with no facilities at all. Overall although it is not beautiful, it is functional and seems to work well overall.

"2 hours to clear immigration"

(Japan)

Verified Review | It took more than 2 hours to clear immigration for foreign passports after arriving at KLIA around midnight. There were only a few counter open and queues didn't move at all. Our daughter was ill and had a high fever so I asked the airport staff to get us through or at least rest her at somewhere while we wait in the queue but they didn't help. That was much worse than last time we came in Nov 2016. I really love Malaysia and want to come back here often in the future but this immigration seriously makes me think I should visit another country.

"So many empty desks"

(Singapore)

Verified Review | So much time wasted at immigration. At least 40 minutes to get in or out of the country. So many empty desks. So much queue jumping. Staff disinterested, surly and or unresponsive. Really poor. And all the while, overhead TV monitors trumpet how good the airport is! What a joke. KL/Malaysia deserves much much better. Jakarta/Thailand/Hanoi even Yangon much quicker! I really loathe travelling through KLIA.

"Seems to be getting worse"

(Singapore)

Verified Review | Seems to be getting worse. Arrivals is a disaster with the immigration systems continually failing which results in long delays. The terminal shuttles are often not working. I unfortunately fly in and out of the airport on a regular occurrence for business. The delays in immigration mean that meetings are often pushed back. The KLIA express is looking grubby these days. This airport is being outstripped by others in the region whether they be in Hanoi, Manila (yes even Manila airport) and even Jakarta. Cannot wait until there is a high speed rail link between SG and KL so I don't have to come through this airport.

"immigration officer rude and unpleasant"

(United States)

Unverified | We were departing Kuala Lumpur Airport and at the immigration area, the wait was not bad but the immigration officer was so rude and unpleasant. We had our twelve year old and ten year old kids with us. Of course we approached the counter together, that's what we always do at other airports but this guy told us he can only do one at a time and told my kids to go to another line. How can you make a ten year old who doesn't speak a word of Malay separate from her parents? Absolutely awful. There was a family at another line and that immigration officer did not tell them to split up.
