Trip Verified | I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the security procedures and staff conduct during my recent departure from Dortmund Airport on 13 Jan 2024. My experience was marred by inefficiency, rudeness, which left me deeply disappointed and frustrated. Upon arrival at the security checkpoint, I encountered security staff who were not only excessively stringent but also impolite. I was subjected to unreasonable scrutiny, being forced to remove every item from my bag, and was met with unwarranted complaints about the presence of liquids. Despite complying with the regulations, I was coerced into purchasing a plastic bag from a designated machine, which is terrible because not only lacks environmental sustainability but also required coins for purchase. I did not have the necessary coins on hand, and the cost of €2 for a single plastic bag was exorbitant. What exacerbated the situation was the blatant inconsistency in the application of these rules. While I was singled out for scrutiny and compelled to purchase a plastic bag, my colleagues, who carried similar items, were not subjected to such treatment. They passed through the security checkpoint without being required to purchase plastic bags, despite declaring liquids identical to mine. This blatant double standard is deeply troubling and calls into question the fairness and impartiality of the security procedures at Dortmund Airport. I found the conduct of the security staff to be utterly disrespectful and unprofessional. Many of them either refused to communicate in English or exhibited a lack of proficiency, leaving me with no choice but to attempt communication in German or resort to Spanish. Additionally, the significant time lost navigating through security procedures, exacerbated by the staff's apparent unfamiliarity with handling high volumes of passengers, was particularly concerning. Overall, my visit to Dortmund Airport was marred by a series of disappointing encounters, ranging from inadequate services to exorbitant prices and, most notably, the abhorrent behavior of the security staff. While I acknowledge that the airport's smaller size may contribute to its relative lack of congestion, this does not excuse the substandard treatment I encountered for a European airport.
