Houston IAH

I arrived to the Houston airport last night around 10.30 pm. Due to rain and thunderstorms the whole airport shut down and many many people had to spend the night. First off United promised so much and delivered so little. They said we'd be able to get hotel vouchers and when we arrived there were no rooms left. Second they promised meal vouchers and a cot both offers were rescinded once at the customer service line. Many people had to sleep on the cold hard floor with the stupid music and announcements blaring all night. Mostly all of the airport employees were extremely and unnecessarily rude. One pizza place was also accommodating - they stayed open late to feed the masses. In the future I will avoid Houston airport at all costs. Not only are the employees not nice the place is shabby and dirty.

Awful experience at immigration and customs - ridiculous and unnecessary delays both in and out of this airport - queues of over two hours both times. Surely they know when flights are landing and should resource desks accordingly. Shamefully inefficient and seemingly no problem to cause travellers to miss connecting flights. Staff unhelpful.

Worst airport on the planet 2.5 hours to get through customs missed connecting flight rude TSA agents been like this for years. When are they going to sort out this mess!

Old dirty airport with rude staff and very long waiting lines. Departure lounge extremely poor with nearly no food outlets. Avoid this airport if you can.

Absolutely terrible time getting through security/customs. What a nightmare. We had read reviews about the horrifying waiting time that we didn't realise how true this is. There is no way older people could endure this after a 10 hour flight! Kids crying the whole time and hugely understaffed. A disgrace and disappointment for our first time here which is not fair on this wonderful city. You must sort this out immediately.

The airport that ignores your complaints. Read back through the comments and for 3 years you will see that people have been complaining about delays at immigration for arriving passengers. What has been done nothing! I watched old men of nearly 80 years old and young parents with screaming infants wait more than 2 hours to get through immigration in this disgracefully organised shambles that is called immigration of 20 booths only 4 were open. They say they cannot afford to pay the immigration staff because of government cutbacks. Why not charge a $5 immigration processing fee and at a stroke pay of the immigration staff and eliminate the lines. But that calls for imagination and drive to improve something that those who organise immigration control at IAH clearly lack. It is nothing short of a disgusting disgrace that Texas ought to be ashamed of! I will not use this airport again until I hear that this problem has been dealt with come on IAH get your act together.

Without exaggeration and as much as it pains me to say it the rudest TSA agents of any airport I've been to international and domestic. This isn't a one time thing either. It is without fail every time! All of this is only compounded by their horrendous customs lines. Suffice it to say that it's another weak point in flying internationally to Houston. One note of interest: London Heathrow - some of the friendlier TSA experiences I've had. After one goes through security puts their shoes belt jewellery jacket scarf etc. back on there is a stand with 3 buttons green for good yellow for ok red for bad push whichever one indicates the experience had with TSA at that time. No excuse why Houston TSA shouldn't implement such a system.

A huge disaster going through customs 4 different lines everyone understaffed. Took two hours.

Worst immigration / customs and in-transit process that I have experienced anywhere in the world. Had a 1.5 hour layover missed our connection. Airport and airline staff confirmed this is a huge issue that the government wont address.

Arrived at HIA on 3/10/14 at 3.55 pm from Mexico City in transit to Miami. Only hand luggage boarding passes ok. Huge queue at Immigration (abt. 400 people). Only 40 % of immigration desks were manned. Officials did an excellent job (abt. 3-4 min. per passenger) but due to lack of manpower it took about 1.5 hours to get through. Same queue at customs and later again at Security. Had 2.2 hours for transit but this was still too little and we missed our flight. Management must have been aware of expected volume of traffic and I am at a loss to understand why they did not adequately prepare for it. "Fast line" for privileged (paying) passengers at customs is another nuisance. I will definitely avoid in the future.
