Hanoi Airport

Clear, modern, up to date, functional, well designed airport. Not crowded at all, well tempered with a lot of natural light. Great duty free shopping area. Clean, maintained toilets everywhere. Hanoi was a very good surprise and one of the most comfortable airports I know in this range of size.

Hanoi Airport is a new, nice airport, and surprised me with how modern and nice it looked. My arrival was smooth, immigration was quick. The floor was clean and bathroom was spotless. Everyone I met was smiling and helpful too. I hate shopping so the lack of shops here didn't quite bother me. I just arrived at the Ho Chi Minh airport and this one is way worse compared to Hanoi.

Arrived from Siem Reap after cancellation of our earlier flight. Ferried by bus from the plane to the terminal and managed to get quickly into the arrivals hall where it wasn't at all clear what the procedure was for connecting to our long haul flight. Finally, was informed that it wasn't necessary to clear customs and immigration and once my passport and boarding passport had been checked by the charmless party functionary behind a makeshift table, we were able to get to security and then the international departures area. The chaps on security seemed, for some reason, to have developed a pleasant sense of humour and got through without too much trouble. The international departures area is a revelation - despite styling itself as a Socialist Republic, Vietnam seems to have espoused consumerism with a vengeance. Having had a cursory look around the duty free shops (which all seems to carry the same stock), I had a foot massage and then travelled back to the departure gate where my flight was starting to board. Free Wifi only available for 30 minutes - bit of a swizz.

Noi Bai Int'L airport is modern, clean and full of nice places to eat and entertain yourself while waiting. Quick check-in and passport control. Flights for dozes of destinationa in Asia.

The airport was nice and new although there were too many signs and directions in the terminal. Very clean, helpful staff and lots of space to sit and rest.

The new terminal is nice and well-designed. The old terminal is rather dull and shops/food are limited. Announcements could be clearer and louder. Connection between old and new terminal is okay, but not great. My rating below concerns the old (local) terminal.

New terminal 2 for international flight out of Noi Bai airport. The new terminal is much more modern and better designed than the old Terminal 1. It is larger, better air conditioned, and has all the needed amenity. The waiting area near gates does not have a lot of space for shopping though.

Airport is new and clean. There is a free wi-fi in duty free zone without registration which is very good. But there are very few duty free shops and it's overpriced. Not recommend this airport for long stopover.

Hanoi now has an International Terminal and a Domestic Terminal which are separate but near each other. Arrived on a domestic flight at the International Terminal and was bussed to Domestic Arrivals Hall. Relatively quick arrival of cases and limited checking before getting to large Arrivals Hall. A good array of facilities including shops/café etc along with Taxi and Bus ranks. The International Terminal was completed at the beginning of 2015 and still has some final "polishing" to be completed and some shop/café units to open. The building is a Glass Shed design with Check-in on the 1st Floor and Arrivals on the Ground Floor. There are a number of Islands of Check-in Desks for each airline grouping and 2 entries to Passport Control and then Security Scanning. Note there is no facility to change Vietnamese Dong once airside and ALL prices are quoted in USD. You must do down to Arrivals Level to use one of the banks to convert any unwanted Dong before doing passport/Security. Departure Lounge is one long strip with the gates overlooking the runway. Duty Free is limited to small range of alcohol and tobacco products and a shop selling Vietnamese things. There is no shop offering electronic goods/cameras. Each gate area had seating around the desk and a TV showing local programmes or films. As it was all new it is difficult to be fully objective on the state of the facilities offered but it looks OK so far.

Not too bad - arrival was smooth and immigration formalities were completed quickly. Bags were delivered within 20-25 minutes of landing. Outside you will find the arrivals hall where you can hire a car/taxi to the city for a fixed price. Departed a couple of days later - Vietnam Airlines check-in area was a little chaotic - it took about 20-25 minutes to get our boarding passes. Arrive as early as you can for check-in. The 1st floor of the International Departures area is pretty much a hall with plenty of small duty free shops a dated restaurant limited seating as well as long queues for boarding (especially for long-haul flights). The 2nd floor is much quieter with plenty of seats a Burger King a Vietnamese food chain more shops selling souvenirs and the two business class lounges (one for Vietnam Airlines and the other for everyone else). There is nothing much to do here and it got quite crowded as many flights were departing in the morning. The good news is that the new international terminal will be opened in 2015 and that will be able to accommodate more passengers.
