"security was fast and friendly"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | This place should be a model for small airports around the world. They even use airbridges, which are great for avoiding the cold winds. Luggage didn’t take too long but all bags have to be x-rayed because you’re not allowed to bring meat, fruit or plants into Patagonia. Then there are stalls for taxis and tour bookings, and the VES shuttle bus service to hotels is at the stand marked “Bus” - $180 one-way or $280 if you book the return leg at the same time. Tourist staff can speak English. Great views of the Andes out the right side on approach (I think I saw Mt Fitz Roy) and some gnarly winds. On departure, the shuttle bus dropped us at the airport 90 minutes ahead, which was plenty. Check-in staff raced through the passengers, security was fast and friendly, wifi was free but somewhat unreliable, decent cafe on both sides of security, views of the runway and lake, lots of toilets. Probably the best small regional airport that I’ve ever experienced.

El Calafate Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

Lovely small airport with one of the best views of any I've ever visited. About 20km from the town but generally one plane at a time so queues transport etc not really an issue. Great coffee bar - go upstairs for views to die for (coffee is also good!). Planes can go early and beware of the winds when leaving. Sympathetically installed to harmonise with landscape (as much as an airport can!). Still need to pay in cash a departure tax - about 5GB Pounds. Also don't carry fresh food in hand luggage even if on an internal flight - it will be confiscated on arrival due to some strange Argentinean regulations.
