"1.5 hours to pass through immigration"

(United Kingdom)

Just arrived back to Edinburgh from Faro. It took around 1.5 hours to pass through customs and immigration - a total disgrace. Edinburgh airport is trying to get as many passengers through as possible and has lost most of its customer care. Obviously profit has been made their top priority at any cost. Charges for airport parking are daylight robbery. I hope people start using other airports until the management start to get their act together.

"1 plane and cannot cope at all"

(United Kingdom)

We arrived into Edinburgh on schedule at approx 02.25. A bus turned up, then another one, eventually we set off and about another 10 minutes later we arrived to find a traffic jam at the terminal (at 02.45am). We were then allowed out to form a queue to get into the building and then form an other queue to get to a total of 3 immigration desks to cope with hundreds of customers. All automatic scanning machines were sitting there glowing red saying "Not In Use". Instead we've have 3 officers to cope with a whole plane, and after more than 1 hour, our luggage still had not arrived. Honestly, 1 plane and cannot cope at all - very embarrassing.

"1h15m before our baggage appeared"

(United Kingdom)

Departure was ok from Edinburgh apart from 3 hour wait on aircraft due to a strike by Italian Air Traffic control. On arrival we had a delay getting off the aircraft as there appeared to be problems with steps. Passport control was a joke with only 3 staff on duty out of 8. I've never waited so long as I have on many occasions in Edinburgh. To top off our experience it was another 1h15m before our baggage appeared. There were no staff available and no announcements made. Our flight came from Milan and as a Scot I felt truly ashamed. Edinburgh Airport needs to get its act together.

"ashamed of how badly it represented our country"

(United Kingdom)

I am a proud Scot, and I expect the country to be a positive experience. Edinburgh International Airport was an appalling shambles on Saturday and I was ashamed of how badly it represented our country. It took 2 hours to get from plane to exit door of the airport. The plane arrived, was put far from the terminal, and it took 30mins at least to get stairs to the plane - we watched as one poor fellow manually dragged the steps to the plane. One bus filled up, and the other 50 - 60 passengers then waited a further 15 minutes until another bus arrived. When the bus eventually took us to the customs there was a queue of buses and another 15 minutes until we joined the huge queue of people through customs - this took another 35 minutes. Given that we had now taken over an hour and a half, you would have thought that the baggage would have been long arrived, but not a chance - it took at least 25 minutes further. Further, there was no manager to be seen, no formal apology from anyone in charge, no TV info about which baggage area it would arrive at, an unwillingness to contact a manager to ask them to come down. We spoke to many people Scots and visitors - all were amazed at how bad the organisation was - and apparently this is a frequent experience.

"through security in 10 mins"

(United Kingdom)

The first time I've been in the new departure area in Edinburgh airport which is much nearer the tram stop, so that is good. The security area which has come under much, and right, criticism worked as smooth as you like. It was very busy on the Friday morning we flew out and we got through security in 10 mins.

"arrival at Edinburgh airport shambolic"

(United Kingdom)

I can only describe our arrival at Edinburgh airport as shambolic. Coming from Scotland I felt ashamed that our capital city should offer such a shoddy operation - hardly the advert of our proud country to overseas visitors. Far too many flights were allowed to land for the capability of the airport. Firstly we had a 30 minute wait on the aircraft until a man arrived with a stretch lanyard to separate those passengers exiting from the back of the plane to the awaiting bus from those exiting from the front of the aircraft to alight their bus. Next we were in a queue of buses so another 30 minute wait. We finally alighted from the bus for a slow crawl through a single doorway with a pitiful sign above stating 'International Arrivals'. Then the big shock - a slow snaking crawl until we reached passport control. The machines were inefficient as not all 4 machines could be used at once. We then had to wait over 1 hour for our luggage. No staff made themselves available to explain the situation and took no responsibility and didn't advise who we could talk to - frustrating to say the least. I hope on hope that this was a blip but reading some of the other reviews I'm not so sure.

"Edinburgh airport isn't too bad"

(United Kingdom)

I travel extensively and overall Edinburgh airport isn't too bad, exceptions are definitely security area and ground staff not being available or trained on how to operate equipment to get us off the plane. This leads to horrific delays.

"no regard to passenger convenience"

(Australia)

Verified Review | Traveled from Edinburgh to Belfast and return on 26th and 30th May 2016 respectively. We arrived with hire car and two elderly passengers some 1 hours 45 minutes prior to departures. On dropping off hire car was advised that they did not provide shuttle buses and that all customers had to walk to the terminal (some 700 meters) fortunately it was not raining. We did internet check-in so this aspect went relatively straight forward. Getting through security however took over half an hour which in my opinion is quite unacceptable by any measure with long queues caused by inadequate equipment and inefficient checking procedures. We eventually got to the Aspire lounge for breakfast with about 10 minutes to spare before boarding as the aircraft was parked at a remote end of the terminal an no moving walkways were installed. On return the aircraft parked at a remote stand and we were pleased to see a shuttle bus arrive at the aircraft. However, instead of being transported to location near the baggage claim, we were taken to the most remote part of the airport from where we had to walk some 700m to obtain our luggage. We then had to walk to the rental car offices to pick up our car, another 700 meters and again we were fortunate that it was not raining as we would have been drenched. The two elderly passengers, both in their eighties, were quite dismayed by the whole experience. It would appear to me that planning at Edinburgh Airport has been poorly planned with no regard to passenger convenience. The outbound security screening procedures fall way behind contemporary operations that I experience on a routine basis. I suggest someone goes to Amsterdam or Frankfurt or Singapore to see how it could be improved.

"very few staff"

(United Kingdom)

Departure - I know security have a job to do, but do they have to so objectionable to to travellers. The flight I was on was comprised of mainly elderly people. The way they were dealt with amounted to low level bullying. Departure and Arrival. I feel if an airport has to bus you to the aircraft, they should not be taking on so many flights if they do not have enough gates to park aircraft's. Arrivals - Passport control a complete shambles. 5 e-passport machines working slowly, large queues at both e and manual checks. Very few staff at the manual check desks. Ridiculous situation, the e-pass machines had to be switched off so that the people viewing them could change shifts - adding to the delays. Tried to find where to get the bus for long stay car park. One small sign which made no sense and was very vague. Eventual got directions, clear directions, from a gent from poland who worked there. One of the worst airports ever.

"couldn't care less about travellers"

(United Kingdom)

Arrived from Venice into Edinburgh - a long wait to fit the steps to the aircraft. We disembarked, then were held at a pedestrian crossing for 2 buses to stop and discharge passengers. 30 mins in passport check - despite these delays there was a further wait getting baggage. Tried to find taxi signage but this is useless with the new taxi rank hidden behind a wall forcing you to one side of car park only to then have to walk all the way back again. I have spent a lifetime flying on business and vacation and the new owners of Edinburgh Airport are the most inept I have encountered. They are obsessed with "retailing" and couldn't care less about travellers. They seem unable to do anything properly I cant even begin on their new "pre shopping" security arrangements.
