"airport is an embarrassment to Scotland"

Not Verified | The rudest, worst security anywhere. Young security staff who think they are entitled to speak to you in a disgusting manner. Not the first time I have received awful treatment. We are customers not terrorists. Security area was filthy with discarded cups and bottles. This airport is an embarrassment to Scotland.

"Security was overwhelmed"

Trip Verified | My wife and I are an elderly couple (one with Parkinson's) and our first problems arose on departure for Southampton on 19 March. We arrived 50 mins before the flight departure. Security was overwhelmed and when we were cleared, the gate, which was a 10 minute walk away, was closing. The bus had gone early and we missed our flight. We were offered a flight on to Belfast and Heathrow, while our car was at Eastleigh. We were eventually squeezed onto a flight the following day and we allowed 2 hours to get to the aircraft. We made it with 10 minutes to spare. The delay was costly because of hotel fees and extended car parking charges. In April my wife came back to Edinburgh to see her new grandchild and was booked in for assistance. On her arrival she waited on the empty aircraft for help while the cleaners did their work and new passengers were arriving. When she was eventually taken off the aircraft, she was abandoned at a lift because the carer was not qualified to use the lift. It took one and a half hours in a wheelchair to reach her waiting son. I have been so angry and wanted redress but it led me to conclude it would be a waste of time because there was so much dissatisfaction. Then I found out that the present owners, Global Investment Partners, a US company, are looking to sell the airport at over double their original investment. They have already got out of their investment in Gatwick. One's thoughts dwell on Mr Trump's policies and Brexit and I realise any stress on my disabled wife is of little consequence when I consider the money and politics involved. I am not without appropriate knowledge having thirty years experience as a pilot and having ran a number of the largest projects for NATS. I did send a letter to higher management after the first incident but no reply. I am considering other actions that I might take.

"I was refused boarding"

Trip Verified | I was refused boarding because special assistance team could not get to me in time and was forced to spend the night in my wheelchair. It was a longer story trying to sort things out but this review is not a novel. Keep in mind: If you have booked the assistance with your airline and go through security check without going to the assistance desk first you are stuck. Seems departments there don't use the same system.

"I am ashamed of Edinburgh Airport"

Not Verified | I am a proud Scotswoman and love my beautiful country but I am ashamed of Edinburgh Airport. Why? Well it is not fit for purpose, badly managed, congested and arranged to maximise the profits of the owners. The queues for passport control and security baggage screening are like something out of a biblical epic. Don't bother asking airport staff for information (if you can find one) they simply don't care. If you do happen to hear the constant Tannoy announcements' you probably wont be able to understand them (I am Scottish) they are garbled and confusing. You can always complain but don't expect any apology or answers to reasonable questions. I planned to travel from Edinburgh on holiday, arrived on time to check-in and proceeded to the departure gate. It took an hour to navigate the queues and make our way to the gate miles from check-in. On our way we were treated to a tour of all the expensive, trashy fast food outlets and then snaked through what used to be called the "Duty Free" area. On arrival at departures we were informed that we were late and had been bumped off the flight. Sympathy for our tale of woe sadly lacking and help with retrieving our previously checked-in luggage was minimal. Come on Edinburgh. You are a visitors gateway to a most amazing country but you let your fellow Scots down and I am sad to have to write this review.

"should be treated with respect"

Trip Verified | The staff at the baggage security were mostly fine with the exception of one gent who was extremely rude. There is no need to be sarcastic when someone asks for their bags to be checked quickly due to boarding gate closing shortly. Customers should be treated with respect not made to feel embarrassed in front of other travellers. Staff who can't be pleasant should be retrained on how not to be rude and upset people. We don't deserve to be treated like this in any airport.

"Not a great welcome to Scotland"

Not Verified | Why is Edinburgh one of the worst airports in the world, 122nd out of 132 Iast time I looked? Because, for example, it can take 1 hour 15 minutes to get from an arriving plane to the exit thanks to long waits for a sardine tin like bus to the terminal from a remote stance and queuing at passport control and then baggage reclaim. Not a great welcome to Scotland for my guests from Cologne.

"an improvement on the previous shed"

Trip Verified | Although there is an apparently new international arrivals extension, our on-time plane had to await 15 minutes for a free parking stand. Then it was up a flight of stairs, along a corridor and down another flight of stairs. The new UK Border area was an improvement on the previous shed and the e-gates were working. Then it was on to the excessive parking fee - in practice £7 minimum for a simple pick up. For the return, I had the fast track through security. That lead to two areas, one obviously for crew and the other for passengers. Although the crew area was empty, I went to my area. When I was organising my second tray, two uniformed persons behind me told me to get my first tray out the way. I asked them who they were to tell me what to do, and saw that they were Jet2 employees. There was no notice displaying the rules and and the security employee was just walking up and down. So these Jet2 employees break the rules by not using the crew area but they are quick enough to bully passengers in their area into getting a move on (I am 76), When I complained to the security employee she told me in no uncertain terms to “GO”. Once through security I saw a watch on the floor. I looked for a supervisor and saw somebody who looked like one. I asked him if he was. He did not reply directly, but said he was waiting to see someone first. I offered that I had found a watch, which he was very happy to take. While waiting for my flight there is still that constant bawling over the loudspeakers throughout the airport, including marketing for the airport, the shops, the eateries. So aggravating.

"Terrible airport for queue and waiting"

Trip Verified | Terrible airport for queue and waiting, for departures there are always big waits and when you arrive it is the same. You can see they are not prepared for the amount of passengers they have, the check in area is small and no space for the queues and the same happens at the gates for boarding. The security staff are terrible and if we try to talk with them you have the usual face of I don’t care, I work in airline and travel all over the world and Edinburgh together with Luton and Stansted are the worst. If you travel from there go with extra time to spend it in any of the queues they have.

"disjointed planning"

Trip Verified | Arrived at 0515hrs for a 0735 hrs flight to Palma although the destination is immaterial. Baggage check in was fast and efficient (TUI, well done). We then went towards the departure gates to find extensive queuing at the stairs and lifts. The escalators were operational but blocked off to stop any access. This we saw was deliberate to stop or slow down the access to the upper level as the queues were even worse here. We got on the 6th lift after waiting and joined the maddening melee upstairs coming from two lifts and stairs to join up. The absence of staff was noticeable and when I did see one he was well out of reach, frankly doing very little, if anything. Well the amount of people waiting to get through boarding pass check and then security was worse than a football match and bordering on a crush. Again, no staff other than those deployed to the fast track lane which was, by now, doing a great trade as persons paid the extra. Nice one for the airport I imagine. Having cleared eventually me, the wife and my 1st flight traveller 6 yr old granddaughter were the subject of a last call tannoy announcement for our flight at Gate 1A. Haste was made and we boarded with our attendant having no information about the delays being suffered prior to and at security. Why not? To summarise, the airport boasts it's new numbers but it can't handle them due to its disjointed planning should something go wrong which I assume happened. This was my worst experience with no action from staff to inform, alleviate and rectify the difficulty. Subsequently, I would not recommend this airport now as I have in the past. Having a return journey to look forward to fills me with dread. It'll be my last, I can assure you.

"episode has ruined my entire stay in Edinburgh"

Not Verified | The Airport is clean and tidy. However the Flybe ground staff use unethical and arm twisting tactics to extort money in the form of baggage charges even though when it's their staff fault. They are the rudest staff I have encountered in my last 20 years of travel. I think there should be some team/desk at airport to resolve the discrepancy between passengers and airport staff. The Flybe staff at Edinburgh Airport does not reflect true Scotland's spirit. This one episode has ruined my entire stay in Edinburgh.
