Denpasar Bali Airport

The domestic departure has quite changed over the past. It is now a state of the art facility, which is efficient, clean and very appealing. Both check in, as well as security check were passed quickly and without being stuck queing. While check in and security checks are located in the ground floor, the second floor features quite some stores for both souvenirs as well as snacks and electronic gadgets and cloths and the actual departure gates. Ones you've passed these shops, there are some restaurants and coffee shops waiting for you. The waiting area is a wide area with lots of windows from which you can see the apron and check out the action going on there. The really nice thing about that, is how much sunlight gets into the building. Also, there is a spa offering some treatments. Just turn left and head towards the Gates 1 (a-c) and you'll find it right hand side on your way.

I can still remember the old and frankly said horrible domestic arrival terminal in Denpasar. With only two conveyer belts available for all incoming domestic flights, things got quite cramped and stressed upon arrival. Luggage was constantly falling off the belts and was all over the arrival hall. How things have changed. The new domestic arrival building is obviously a significant improvement over the old one. The first striking thing you'll notice is how clean, shiny and well kept everything is. There is plenty of natural light inside the building and directly upon arrival there is a nice relaxed Balinese atmosphere present thanks to the nice decoration. All directions for transiting and arriving passengers are clearly marked. Both in English and Bahasa. Luggage handling is quick and efficient and it won't take a long time to receive your luggage. On the way there, you will pass by an extensive selection of information material for tourists. On the way to the exit, you will be led through various taxi companies and travel agencies.

Poorly finished, poorly managed, total lack of passenger management, this place has to be one of the very worst run airports in the world.

The new Bali Airport layout is a vast improvement on the previous and smaller airport. Sadly the experiences I had with the rude manner of immigration officials at Bali airport is usually the first experience most tourists have. Upon exit from Bali there was an irregularity with my Visa and the manner i was spoken to by the immigration official was unnecessarily rude and arrogant. I was made to apologize for the irregularity or was threatened to be removed from my flight and detained. The experience will leave a long impression.

Denpasar Bali Airport immigration has improved, probably due to getting rid of arrival cards and allowing many people in without a visa. I got through immigration in 5 minutes but then had to wait half an hour for my bags, despite us being bussed from the plane to terminal which should have given themmore time (also, why build a big new terminal if it won't even have enough gates for the national carrier?). The taxi service is still ignoring their published prices. Departure was smooth and I managed to find some good breakfast (I walked out of the first place after staff ignored me and even at the second place the staff were terrible, which is unlike Bali) but again the free wifi was useless. I actually connected this time but it was too slow to be usable. Still a long way to go.

The building is new so the airport was quite nice and modern. From outside is very beautiful mixing modern with local architecture. Inside is well decorated and clean.

There have been numerous improvements made to Bali airport over the last few years. The new facilities have increased the number of retail and food outlets before and after immigration. Duty free shopping has increased and the processing though immigration and check in has also vastly improved. Garuda now collects the departure tax at check-in which also saves time. Overall very happy with the airport and the improvements

The new airport at Bali is a credit to the designer and the people who run it, sure there are some minor delays but if you have to wait there are plenty of places where you can get a good meal for around $6 to $8 AUD. We got there at 5.30 am and even then there was restaurants open, if you compare it to the disgrace that is Perth Airport, where the only food is wet sandwiches or microwaved Pizza at certain times then Denpasar airport is ten star, it also leaves the new airport at Kuala Lumpur in it's shadow, once you are through the gates at KL theres a 20 minute fast walk to the planes with only a muffin stand for food, so if you are delayed as we were, we had two hours with only a muffin and water.

It is a new airport. But when you have passed the immigration, it is an endless walk till you come to the gates. Why? Because you have to pass numerous shops. There is no direct way. Shame on such kind of passenger "forcing" to walk by!

Surprisingly nice, new airport (domestic terminal) with ample shopping, coffee bars and restaurants. Nice open, modern feel.
