"Security has improved tremendously"

(United Kingdom)

Unverified | Travelled to Vienna with EasyJet from Bristol on the 21st July returning on the 4th August. Drop bag system completely self service and easy to use. Security has improved tremendously since my last visit with a much larger area and new machines. Staff courteous. Went through very quickly although the airport was busy. Same on returning. There seemed to be more passport machines (all working). Didn't have to wait for long to get through and bags arrived within a few minutes. All the reasons for using the local airport seemed to be justified and I was impressed with the improvements.

"attitude of Security Personnel is very bad"

(United Kingdom)

Verified Review | I use Bristol Airport frequently travelling to and from Alicante, I was pleased to see improvements which must have cost a considerable amount of money. The experience now should be a lot better for the traveller. Unfortunately the attitude of Security Personnel is very bad, I feel money should also have been spent on training these people. They are generally rude, impatient and treat us like idiots. I appreciate they are doing a very worthwhile job but we are not all terrorists. A little courtesy and perhaps a smile would work wonders and improve the whole experience of departing from this airport.

"very quick and easy through check-in"

(United Kingdom)

Unverified | Great service. Security usally takes about 10-25 minutes. Fast service, very quick and easy through check-in. You can always find your way round very easily. Going through renovations at this airport, the service is as quick as always. Staff friendly and language skills are brilliant.

"it was a complete shambles"

(United Kingdom)

Unverified | Absolutely poor excuse of an airport, the simple deadheads on security almost caused us to miss our flight by questioning why we were taking a couple of pouches of baby food for our 9 month old and then taking ages to check it because they were too busy chatting amongst themselves. Then on our return to the UK after a 4hr flight it took over an hour to get the luggage off the plane apparently because of rain even though everyone's suitcases were completely soaked through. Overall compared to Tenerifes South airport it was a complete shambles.

"Service always pleasant and professional"

(Switzerland)

Verified Review | Use the airport 6-8 times a year. Refurbishment has been done well so far. Service always pleasant and professional. Moving through the airport can be quick - although some gates can be quite a walk for some, owing to the lay-out (duty-free positioning). There are a range of food options. It does a great job for being a small sized airport.

"I like it and have no major complaints"

(United Kingdom)

Unverified | I use Bristol Airport frequently, I like it and have no major complaints, though I am looking forward to the day the building works/improvements are finished. July 2017 I found departures very crowded so I purchased a priority ticket for the security check. I was perplexed to see my handbag end up behind the glass screen requiring me to wait over 15 minutes to have it rechecked. I knew there was nothing in my handbag to warrent this. When my turn came the security officer re-xrayed my handbag and said 'all clear'. I asked him the reason for my handbag being channelled along on the rollers to end up behind the glass screen. His reply 'it got caught up and pushed the wrong way.' No apology. Of course I undertsand security is essential however new equipment that malfunctions and causes unnecessary/extra work for security staff is inexcusable.

"increase in parking charges over the years"

(Switzerland)

Verified Review | From arrival, those who collected me commented on the increase in parking charges over the years. Spent more time during departure. 2 pounds for a trolley. A very old man with a lot of trouble walking could therefore not use a trolley. He had no cash. Neither did I say so I landed up helping him very slowly with his suitcase to departures. Shameful. The internet at the airport is also bad quality and doesn't even extend to the gates. Why do they need my details and email address etc for me to be able to use it. Privatisation, and I assume this airport management is privatised too, should result in something better. Security and shopping was fine. It all just feels badly designed, especially after arriving back in Switzerland.

"not efficient at processing passengers"

(United Kingdom)

Unverified | Absolutely hopeless. I have a Villa in Lanzarote, and make 6/7 return trips a year. I have endured BRS for three years being told, 'it is all in the cause of making it better'. Bristol is a shopping mall with lots of corridors and aircraft departing, they have followed the modern trend of making you walk three times as far as you need, just to get out of the security check in area, for a shopping opportunity. Then they redirect you the longest possible route to the gates, that is using the 'new' escalators which are completely the wrong end of the building. The security baggage check area is quite large, but on only 1 out of my last 10 trips has it been quick and efficient. It seems totally distracted and thrown off balance by people who only travel once a year and do not take kindly to brusque instructions. Arriving at BRS the last three times, I have been held on the plane for over 30 mins, because ground staff were not available, then being bussed 'the long way' to being held on the bus, then held in the corridor, then queuing for passport control. The quickest of these last 3 occasions was over 1 hour 20-mins from touchdown, and that was before baggage reclaim. The aircraft have been Ryanair, it might be them responsible, I do not know. Travelling with EasyJet and Thomas Cook I have not had so many problems. They are not efficient at processing passengers, isn't this what an airport should be? I only use it because it is just over 3/4hr away from home. If I lived further, I would avoid it like the plague.

"This airport could easily get its act together"

(United Kingdom)

Verified Review | We live about 10 minutes from Bristol Airport and so prefer to fly from here when possible. Having said that, the airport has expanded very rapidly in recent years, but sadly seems to have lost the concept of customer care somewhere along the way. The drop off area is some distance away from the terminal itself and is subject to a charge even if you are quick at unloading cases from a car. If there have been a few arrivals the walkway can be crowded and difficult to pass along. The car parking areas are very expensive and some are quite far from the airport itself. There is a monopoly awarded to one taxi company which is usually unable to provide enough cars if there is more than one arrival at a time. They ain't cheap either. There are so many departure/arrival gates now that it isn't unusual to have to walk for 10 minutes or more once through passport and check in. There are no automated walkways so if you have mobility problems this is not the airport for you. There are several sets of stairs to negotiate but no escalators, although there are elevators (small and slow). Security has been increased at this airport so allow more than the usual 2 hours before departure time. A knee replacement will set of the metal detector but you will still be made to walk barefoot and be frisked before continuing. Still, better safe than sorry. This airport could easily get its act together and be a great regional airport but it needs to be less greedy and spend money on things that make the whole experience more enjoyable.

"pathetic and shoddy customer service"

(United Kingdom)

Verified Review | On arriving at Bristol from Frankfurt on 30/06/17 with BMI our luggage was lost. Having visited the Service desk and filled in a form, we were told to make contact later to check on progress. This we did and one bag was returned. However the second bag is still missing. Repeated attempts over three days to make contact have been directed to a mail box which is permanently full. Calls to the airport are charged at 11p a minute which is customer extortion. This is pathetic and shoddy customer service.
