Brisbane Airport

We travelled Singapore Changi to Auckland en route (transit) at Brisbane on both legs. At the transit security check there was a long queue and only one conveyor belt and one x-ray machine. Worse it was manned by a team of slow security personnel who were rude petty and had no idea of what can or cannot be brought in. They confiscated my daughter's rice milk without any explanation or questions asked. We had a doctor's letter explaining our daughter's condition and furthermore we were aware that exceptions are made for baby food (never had any problems in Heathrow Zurich Changi). Our demand for these to be returned were ignored and instead we were greeted by some offhand remarks. We finally got the milk back after their supervisor came to our rescue.

Its ridiculous there is only one restaurant open for departing passengers before 6.30am. Surely people who have had to get up in the small hours for early check in could expect not to queue forever for a hot coffee and or breakfast at that time of day. Even worse the food was terrible. Airport managers need to get with the times and not cater as if its a small town domestic airport.

What a disappointing introduction to Australia this is especially after departing from a superb airport like Singapore's Changi. Dirty carpets in the transit hall grubby walls filthy toilets broken toilet seats -very below third-world standards. The departure area of the transit hall is not quite so run down and some effort has been made but toilets dirty and housekeeping poor. I would not have expected this standard in an International tourist destination.

Avoid this terminal at all cost I have never experienced such a pitiful airport as this. Disembarking I walked the aerobridge - maintenance badly needed. The toilets on both arrival and departure levels are filthy. Unreadable flight Information Screens that scroll every 2 mins on arrival and departure level 1980s TV's for gate entertainment. Boarding lanes were made by these outdated mismatched tensa barriers broken and displayed throughout the terminal. Boarding gates were filthy and dust was evident. The so called express lane was a joke crew airport staff assisted passengers all channelled into one lane - waste of time. Food and Beverage outlet seating area filthy and overcrowded. Please take some ear plugs if you don't want to listen to loud screaming constant announcements. A major rethink is needed at this airport.

I had the pleasure of flying out of BNE International on Dec 3. Since my first International flight back in 1985 I have only flown into and out of Oz from SYD and DRW (where I used to live). It just seemed so airy and laid back with no queues either at security (the fast track wasn't operational but there seemed to be no need for one) the shops I visited or the TRS booth. The Qantas Lounge was good again with plenty of space and reasonable selection of refreshments. Everything is also much more compact than SYD and I would love to use BNE Intl more often unfortunately most of my flights are with BA who don't fly into BNE. Of course I may have struck the airport on a quiet day it was a Monday lunchtime and that may have been to my advantage.

Short check in times friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Never had an issue.

I have used Brisbane airport for many years as a local and while its quite functional it just has no character or atmosphere compared to some of the other terminals but the worst part by far is the food choices available. Like all airports the prices are simply ridiculous for the rubbish on offer but as a state that has so much great local produce how is it possible that the very basic food court options are all fast food chains or pre packaged bad sandwiches. No wonder people feel bad during and after their flight. A better food experience would encourage guests to spend more and enjoy their pre departure time much more.

Being a BNE local I use domestic frequently. Always a stress-free easy check-in security staff friendly enough pretty basic shopping/eating/drinking airside but decent enough if you're only waiting half an hour for a flight. Usually I catch the Airtrain which now running times have been extended is very convenient if travelling alone. Cheaper and easier to get a cab if there's 2 or more though. International is nothing special Again easy check-in clean friendly staff but for shopping/dining one would expect a bit more to impress o/s visitors. Last flight in a few weeks ago has been better than last year. Customs staff are much friendlier and it was much quicker. However baggage claim area is in desperate need of an update has the feel of a 90's office with cheap carpet and fluoro lighting. BNE has massive potential to serve as int'l gateway to Aus for Asia especially with the shabby state of SYD and MEL just needs that extra Wow! factor that all Aussie airports seem to lack. My advice? Take some architectural queues from Madrid Incheon or many other major hubs integrate cheap quick and frequent public transport and BNE would be transformed and to some extent probably Brisbane as well!

SYD-BNE-SYD. Haven't been to Brisbane for couple of months Brisbane domestic airport really changed. Construction for the car park finally finished - worth for the wait. The new walkway between domestic terminal train and car parks are fantastic completely new feeling for the airport. Security check area at Qantas has changed as well there is dedicated business and premium passengers line. It is very easy to drive to airport or go by train as well.

I never have an issue with BNE. It's never too busy it's easy to get around (particularly in arrivals) and I always find it a relaxing place to unwind and get ready for your flight. I rate them amongst the best I've been to.
