"customs agent was rude"

Not Verified | The airport, itself, is lovely. It’s clean with lots of shopping, restaurants, and a train station. The customs agent, however, was rude. I don’t speak Dutch so I addressed her in English. She asked me, “Where are you coming to?” I thought well she means either “Where are you going?” OR “Where are you coming from?” I attempted to answer both questions, since I wasn’t sure which she was asking. Although I maintained a polite and friendly demeanour, the young agent just scowled and asked me the same question over again. Finally I said “Paris” as that was my final destination. Her response was another scowl and “You’re in Amsterdam!” I explained I was on a tour and I would be leaving Amsterdam the next day. She stamped my passport and flung it back at me. Very unpleasant young lady and a very negative first impression of Amsterdam. Definitely doesn’t make me want to return.

"extremely rude and clueless"

Not Verified | I find it ridiculous at how inefficient and slow things work here, been to multiple airports and none of them come as frustrating as this. Huge snaking queue forming at the immigrations and they have the gall to open only TWO counters! I cannot imagine how many people missed their flights because of this. Security checks are next level, extremely rude and clueless, I encountered a small bald guy who even tried to tackle me for going the way his colleague asked me to, did not even apologize and acted like a punk after that. Funny, maybe this is what Amsterdam is about after all. Disgraceful.

"didn't care about us"

Not Verified | We booked special assistance for my wife who is a UK Blue badge holder. Firstly, although this is not their fault, just for context, we had to walk ages to get to check in desk 17. After check in we went to the assistance desk where there were two girls on duty. For quite a lot of time there were three there. I said we had booked and would like to go through to do some shopping. She said it would be about 20 minutes. Over an hour and a half later with people who had arrived after us going through I said how unhappy I was. She said someone will be here in ten to fifteen minutes. I told her she had said that 90 minutes ago. During this time she said they were busy. Sitting there i didn't see the busy bit, indeed some assistance staff came and went without helping anyone. We also saw one lady sitting down opposite for ten minutes. The girl on the desk was surly and didn't care about us or keep us informed. She and her friends were more concerned about chatting to each other. If at least one of them helped with wheeling the chairs that would have been better Disgusting service by an arrogant girl who lapped up her "power" and didn't do anything to help because were were not told what was happening we couldn't even go for a coffee in case we missed our place. The girls as the desk had theirs Schipol, you lost income by us not going shopping and certainly if people ask about the experience I will tell them. Lets see if they have the courage to respond

"we were very disappointed"

Not Verified | This is our first time traveling to Europe and this airport and we were very disappointed. The terminals were very warm the areas were pack with people I had to go to 2 different bathrooms to find a vacancy. There are no information maps or desk to help you find anything. People are allowed to sleep on the benches taking up space in restaurants. Wi-Fi was almost impossible to connect too. Charging connection areas were almost non existent, we were at the Austin airport and there were charging connections everywhere. Very poorly run.

"still vastly overpriced"

Trip Verified | I like Schiphol, it's relaxed and friendly. While sleeping in an airport terminal is never going to be a luxurious experience, Schiphol at least has some really comfortable settees in its vast departure lounges. Schiphol does have the overpriced in transit hotel option. Schiphol is still vastly overpriced. The only option behind security during the early hours is Amsterdam Bread Company. It was a very nice cheese sandwich but I'm not sure it was worth 9 euros! McDonalds opens at 5am for some more price gouging with a 1 euro hamburger costing 4.25 as an indicator. The biggest price shock was bottled water. Amsterdam Bread Company is charging 4.80 for a small bottle!

"experience was the worst ever"

Not Verified | My wife and I are over 80 and have used Schiphol and KLM as our hub from Glasgow to many parts of the world over many years. We know it is a large airport and requires much walking. However our recent experience was the worst ever. We arrived from Glasgow at about 1930 to stay in the Hilton before our flight the next morning on KLM to Geneva. When we reached passport control there were about 150 non EU passengers in front of us with 2 passport controls open. We stood and shuffled slowly and it took another 30 minutes to get through. Meanwhile there were 7 open automatic passport controls for EU citizens and about 50 people took seconds to get through. This is not a good welcome for UK citizens into the EU. Bu now we had taken about 50 minutes on our feet from disembarkation and we arrived at the exit to go on the walkway to the Hilton Hotel for our overnight stay. We were utterly dismayed to find that neither lift was working and neither was the escalator to take us up to the walkway where the moving walkways would have allowed us some respite. Instead we had to go out of the airport and push our luggage trolley across roads and along pavements to get to the Hilton. We eventually arrived at the hotel about 1 hour and 15 minutes after leaving the aircraft, about the same time as it took for the actual flight. For a supposed world class airport this was appalling and, for two elderly people, was a poor start to our holiday.

"absolutely shambolic experience"

Not Verified | An absolutely shambolic experience. Wait times for everything too long. Forget priority queues they rarely exist. Hot, humid, poor signage overcrowded and long long walks to gates. I never thought I would say there is a worse airport in Europe than Heathrow (and that’s really saying something) but now I’ve found it. Sad as Amsterdam is such a nice place.

"What a shambles"

Trip Verified | What a shambles. Over 1 hour to get through passport control, finally got to the KLM Crowne Lounge after a very long walk to find that their free bar had run out if gin but I could go upstairs and pay for one if I wanted to! This airport is an embarrassment to The Netherlands and should be avoided at all costs. A once shining example of an airport is now run so badly - worse than many third world countries that I visit regularly. Pity I couldn't give a 0 rating. The lowest possible is 1 and that's already too generous.

"avoid like the plague"

Trip Verified | The last two times I have been forced to travel through Schiphol, once in transit and one for a stay in the Netherlands, I forget how bad the airport is. Very long queues to either get into the Schengen region for transfers or else through Immigration. I try and avoid like the plague. Brussels is a much better airport to travel through and the staff are more pleasant.

"Security was aggressive and rude"

Trip Verified | I didn't care too much that the airport was painfully drab and that the food, restaurant and bar selection was poor but I did mind when the guy at Security was aggressive and rude towards my husband. My husband, who is hard at hearing, while being frisked by the Security guy after passing through the xray machine didn't understand why he was being asked "does it hurt?" upon discovering he had a knee brace on. My husband asked 'why' confused why he was being asked that question. The guy then got upset and escorted my husband to an office opposite the security checkout and took him into a room and closed the door, all because he didn't understand his question. Meanwhile his co-workers who witnessed the event snickered to each other when he was escorted away.
