WestJet Airlines customer review

Trip Verified | Our flight in Toronto was delayed, so missed next flight from Winnipeg to Calgary. They booked separate flights for all 4 of us at different time zones. We were reaching Calgary at 11:00 pm on july 8 but now we are going separately at different times through multiples stops on july 9. I don’t recommend Westjet at all.

"Avoid flying WestJet at all costs"

Not Verified | Avoid flying WestJet at all costs. After swallowing up two discount airlines and surviving a pilot strike, this company is in total disarray. They cancelled our flight 1/2 hour before boarding time (Swoop, owned by WestJet), offered alternate arrangements via WestJet, then immediately pulled that alternative. Then they refused a refund or credit. They're no different than any other scam operating today. Never ever again.

"experienced no problems at all"

Not Verified | Could not check in online, but airport check in worked well. Flight was nice, staff excellent. Was a bit worried before our flight after reading the reviews here, but everything was good and we experienced no problems at all. Flight was part of a multi city journey, so it is difficult to figure out value for money. Would use again if reasonably priced, at least for flights not requiring transfer.

"irresponsible, rude, unjust and unprofessional"

Trip Verified | Our initial flight was delayed due to unscheduled maintenance, which I understand. The biggest problem I have with WestJet is that they had no problem pulling us off our flight and significantly delaying our return. They let our scheduled flight proceed knowing they only had to get our luggage, which WestJet failed to transfer, not because of our error, but the airlines inefficient handling. They refused to wait only minutes for WestJet to get our luggage, but instead delayed us returning home by 15 hours, causing me and my husband to miss work and other responsibilities as well as extra parking charges. Additionally, the lady that stopped us to pull us off the flight because of WestJet’s inefficient baggage handling, yelled at us “Go get your bag and you will have to rebook your flight home” no apologies, no directions, no kind tone of voice, but rudeness like we were the ones at fault. And 16 hours later we fly back to where our flight started from, in Vancouver. This treatment was irresponsible, rude, unjust and unprofessional. I will not give WestJet any of my money and be sure to let people know what kind treatment a customer can expect to receive. Additionally, they refuse not to listen, as I was never able to talk with a person only email. Very disappointed!

"WestJet lied to us multiple times"

Not Verified | My wife and I booked a trip from SFO to Paris with a stop in Calgary through WestJet. Our troubles began immediately, when our flight to Calgary was delayed; first by 10 minutes, then by 50, then by over three hours; well past the time we left for the connecting flight. During the flight, the pilot announced that our plane in Calgary was being held, and that passengers flying to Paris need to disembark first to make the flight. This was the first lie. As we ran through Customs, we arrived at our flight, along with a few dozen others, to find that our seats were sold, and that we needed to find another flight. "Don't worry, we have plenty of staff to assist you at another gate". We arrived at the designated counter to find dozens and dozens of other passengers who missed connecting flights. We spent several hours in line with everyone else, and were informed the next available flight was the following day, via Transat. This was devastating, as my wife had plans for our first day in Paris, and we had to cancel those. After rebooking our flight, the counter agent told us to pick up our luggage, and gave us the counter number. We went to the designated counter, and after asking for our luggage, the WestJet agent asked us, "Why are they sending you all down here? We don't have your luggage". He called the counter agent, and notified us our bags were booked for our new flight, which took us to Paris via Montreal. He told us our luggage was now going to that flight. Given the end-to-end incompetence and apathy we've encountered thus far, we asked for our bags back. The agent said he couldn't give them to us, but assured us they were going on our newly booked trip. We left the airport, and went to our hotel room in Calgary. Upon returning to the airport, we checked in at the Transat counter. An outstanding checkin resource there said they had no record of our luggage being transferred from WestJet to them. He walked me over to the WestJet checkin area, and asked an employee to validate our luggage was handed over. The WestJet employee scanned our tags, made a call, then told us our luggage was with Customs at Calgary, but assured us a WestJet employee would tag the luggage there, and it'll be on our flight. As we boarded the Transat plane, the helpful checkin employee told us our luggage wasn't on the plane. Upon landing, and waiting for all luggage to clear, we filled out a lost luggage form, and began trying to locate our luggage. We went to Transat, who had no record of it, and to WestJet, where we were informed the people there were not, in fact, WestJet employees, but contractors, and couldn't help us further. After five hours at the airport, we finally ended up at Baggage Services at Charles de Gaulle, and were finally able to locate our bags, *which were delivered the day before, and never retagged.* This means that every WestJet employee we spoke to knew our luggage went before us, never informed us, and did nothing to prevent our luggage from landing at an airport where, because they have zero actual staff, they could do anything to help. WestJet lied to us multiple times, which cost us nearly two days of a seven day vacation. They did absolutely nothing to help us, as customers, in any way. I will never fly them again, and would advise anyone from using them, as they had multiple opportunities during these cascading failures to do the right thing.

"had a terrible experience"

Trip Verified | I had a terrible experience traveling alone for the first time because of WestJet. The company didn't load my luggage (as well as a dozen other people's) into the plane and thought it was useless to mention it. Thankfully, I was staying at a friend's and was able to borrow stuff from them. Which resulted to me waiting for at least an hour before it was announced the unloading was complete. I went to someone from their staff, and had to file a complaint before I found out they left my luggage in Ottawa. This is completely unacceptable, especially as they never apologized, nor sent me any kind of compensation or reimbursement for the several pieces of clothing and other things I had to buy again until they sent my suitcase back to me again.

"Terrible airline"

Trip Verified | Terrible airline. Significant delays (there were power cuts but other flights were running smoothly). Passengers were not updated at all as we waited for several hours. 90% of passengers’ bags were not loaded onto the flight. We received half of our luggage 24 hours later, but the rest is still lost. Everyone we speak to seems confused and shared different messages. Minimal communication and extremely long hold times. I highly doubt we will be reimbursed for any costs incurred.

"excellent employee a professional"

Trip Verified | Our original route was Vancouver to Calgary to Orlando. We missed our second flight (Calgary to Orlando) because the time between the next flight connection was too short. The security check had like 300 people to be checked (I made an estimate of the people on each line). We want to thank Michelle on the Calgary airport, she helped us to take another fly to San Francisco and then Tampa. She is an excellent employee a professional. Also a supervisor named Gill (not so sure of the spelling) he helped us with diligence and very professional. Thanks God bless you.

"Worst customer service"

Not Verified | Worst customer service ever. The right hand doesn’t communicate with the left hand. My flight was cancelled and the told us to get our luggage at carousel 1. Then it changed to carousel 7 which was in a different location at the airport. After several hours and waiting in several lines…no luggage. No hotel voucher or any kind of customer service. When they rebooked my flight they still didn’t know where my luggage was and if it would be on my new flight. I got bumped from priority class to economy class and said I had to fill out a form for the difference in price to get reimbursed. I’m hoping my luggage will arrive at my final destination. I am never going to fly Westjet again.
