"Such a bad airline"

(Canada)

Not Verified | After losing my luggage which had my suit for my mom's wedding for three days I was told to go buy clothes which I did. They have never reimbursed me. Such a bad airline.

"reached the dregs of a very large barrel"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Without a doubt this airline has reached the dregs of a very large barrel. The food was absolutely disgusting. A 7.40hr flight with a stale barely warm what was meant to be a Turkey wrap with two tiny brownies. My husband is a Platinum traveler and was horrified. That should not matter however, the food was beyond below par. The flight is not cheap at $850.00 a pop and this is the filth they should think you should eat. The staff could not give a damn and when asked if there were any snacks on board we were told that they did not know why they had not got any. We were offered a cheap small pack of pretzels or cookies. C'mon WestJet you can do way better than this. Used to be my favorite airline in Canada, now we are considering crossing a boarder to fly international for long distant to avoid them as they are diving into the deep dark of nasty like AC.

WestJet Airlines customer review

(Canada)

Trip Verified | I bought a business class ticket with Air France, unfortunately going with a connection on WestJet in Premium economy to Toronto with an onward connection with Air France (who are excellent). The original connection was 1.5hrs. WestJet pulled out of gate, then back saying more gas was needed, when we finally took off, they blamed air traffic control. Luckily I didn’t check a bag. We arrived in Toronto at 520pm, the Air France plane was close, and was to board 615pm. When we arrived at the gate, WestJet had no staff to allow deplaning, no connection information. Sorry only goes so far. Unbeknownst to me, despite being a WestJet flyer, no one told me they gave away my business seat. Only upon boarding did Air France say to me WestJet bumped, but not only that, they did into economy on the next flight, even though business seats were clearly available. I go to their manager who explains they have every right to tamper with my Air France seat. He gives me some useless meal vouchers, but says $100 credit is best he can offer. I said I was never getting on one of their planes, but didn’t want to fight over ruining my vacation that was just starting. Surprisingly some WestJet head office person vetoed the $100 credit that was offered & now stated I was not getting!! Then when in Turkey I text WestJet from their own twitter platform outlining my compensation request. I did not know WestJet reported in May 2022 that their twitter feed could be hacked, which is close to what happened to me, thankfully I shut my banking down to avoid. What kind of organization allows their feed to be hacked & not shut it down, or try to protect their customers. Then reneges on a manager offers, and worst of all tampers with a flight that had nothing to do with them. Even Air France staff were baffled, especially when the connection had plenty of time!! Never again WestJet. All the reviews are true, the airline is garbage, run by greedy managers who don’t even respect their own staff & workers. I warn all business people to avoid this airline, and Never trust any connecting international flight with WestJet.

"very frustrated with WestJet"

(India)

Trip Verified | I am very frustrated with WestJet. There wheel chair service and customer service is so bad. My mother used their service Sep 20,2022. The wheel chair service guy left her on the one side of the airport. She could not raise her hand from that place and her phone wasn't working and I was calling to customer service is she had boarding or their response was so bad because they don't know. I don't know they have an untrained employees or they don't want to help.

"absolute horrifying experience"

(United States)

Not Verified | Last July we had our wedding in my home-country in Europe and our honeymoon in the south of Portugal. Due to the turmoil that is currently going on in the land of air travel (unacceptable, but that is for another post) we decided to book separate flights and WestJet seemed the best option for our return trip back to Seattle. If only I had read any of the reviews that were posted before. The two flights (lay-over in Calgary) were fine (really not more than that). But we left Paris with an hour delay because the captain decided to wait for one of the lavatories to be fixed (his words: it isn't a necessary measure, but nice to have). Then it turned out that we also waited for a passenger who was lost at the airport. I can appreciate the Canadian niceness, but this made a good number of passengers on board miss their connection to Seattle and having to spend the night in Calgary. Finding WestJet's transfer desk at Calgary airport was an absolute nightmare. It's not located near the check-in, but on the other side of the airport. They should have made that a lot clearer when they informed us we won't make our second flight, only 20 minutes before landing in Calgary. Gee thanks, WestJet! Then the line at the desks was insane! After a more than 2 hour wait (!!) the only thing the transfer agent told us was to book a hotel and we would get reimbursed. Did we have to wait more than 2 hours for that?! Really WestJet, get your act together and find a better way to communicate about this! Of course all hotels were booked by that time (8:00PM local time and the Calgary Stampede was apparently happening). With more than 200 people getting the same information, one could expect that hotels were booked by the time it was our turn. That all happened on July 9th. It is now October 4th and we still haven't gotten our expenses reimbursed, nor have we gotten any news on the status. Calling WestJet doesn't help. Apparently this airline is so unorganized that they can't even tell you where you are on the list of (given how they treat flying, thousands of) people who are also waiting for their reimbursements. WestJet doesn't even know if our claim was received or not. What an absolute disgrace this "company" is! On top of that, our EU 261/2004 claim was denied! Their reason: there was a "security concern", which WestJet now uses a joke of an excuses not to pay out what we are entitled to. Interesting detail: a "security concern" isn't on the list of exemptions for this claim. So, that means we are entitled to compensation. Or did the broken lavatory, or lost passenger pose a security risk?! Seriously, you need to be more creative with your excuses, WestJet! To conclude, flying with WestJet makes your trip an absolute horrifying experience! I really wish I read reviews of this airline before we decided to book with them. It was a terrible ending to a great wedding and honeymoon trip. What I forgot to mention: delays like this happen every single day with WestJet, we were informed. So, really chose a different airline! There are plenty out there that aren't, or can't be as bad as WestJet! 0 stars would be too generous in this case.

"compliment representative in Varadero"

(Canada)

Not Verified | I want to compliment one of your representative in Varadero. Her name is Ivonne. Amazing lady smiles light up the room. I had something taken from me when I landed in cuba and she helped me retrieve it when I was flying back. Best service I ever had she makes you feel valued and she stayed with me until I was ready to go on the other side to check in at the counters. Ivonne I appreciate you thank you for your amazing work

"Terrible customer service"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | WestJet cancelled flight from Palm Springs to Vancouver Sep 4 due to mechanical problem rescheduled next day 21 hours later. Needed to urgently arrive home on date of scheduled flight so was necessary to book on a different carrier. WestJet refuses to compensate for delay or out of pocket expenses. Will be filing complaint with Canada Transport Agency and filing a claim in small claims court. Terrible customer service. Avoid this airline.

"Westjet was the worst experience"

(United States)

Not Verified | Booked flight with Delta. Had no idea Delta transferred to Westjet! Seat assignments had to be paid for. In USA could select seats within 24hrs of flight for no additional cost. In Canada seats were assigned. If you wanted to change there was a per seat fee! Westjet was the worst experience. Will not fly Westjet again. When booking with Delta make certain you are flying Delta, not WestJet.

"appalled by the terrible customer service"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | I had the worst experience with Westjet and will not be flying with this airline again. I was booked on a round trip from Toronto to SF through a companion voucher. My companion did not end up flying and I flew alone from Toronto to SF. Before getting on the plane, Westjet staff confirmed that my companion was not flying with me and went ahead with boarding me on the flight. When it came to flying back home to Toronto from SF, I was unable to check in 24 hours before my flight. I spoke to an incredibly rude and unhelpful staff member who told me my flight was cancelled because my companion did not fly, so essentially they left me stranded in SF. I was appalled by the terrible customer service. Westjet did not provide any other options and told me I had to buy a new ticket. This wasn’t something they had advised me of prior to flying which would have been the time to let me know. I had to pay $900+ to get on a flight back home on the same day on incredibly short notice. I went with air Canada this time. I’ve learned my lesson, it is worth paying a little more for better customer service and peace of mind.

"great disappointment and dissatisfaction"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | On September 8, I accompanied my 70-year-old mother on a trip to Europe. She traveled alone and was entitled to one 23 kg suitcase. Before the trip, we weighed the suitcase on a scale for home use, when we arrived at WestJet, the person working said that we had more than allowed, it was 2 kg more, I asked to pay thinking that it was not much because it was only 2 kg, she charged $120! Is this normal, considering that we have flown before and no one has ever charged us for 2 kg more!!! shame, it's really wrong!!! and she was not even kind!!! my mother wanted to have an escort because she can't walk long and fast and she doesn't speak English. she started asking questions about why he should escort her because my mother was standing at that moment. No one has ever given us a problem about it, because this is the third time she is traveling with an escort. I did not react to what she charged at that moment, I was too worried about how my mother would fare on the road, but this way I express my great disappointment and dissatisfaction! The next time I asked to get a boarding pass so I could be with her until take-off, she said she couldn't because my 9-year-old son was also with me, who wanted to be with grandma until he got on the plane. I have never experienced such behavior before.
