"book your flight through any other airline"

Not Verified | I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed by how my flight situation was handled by WestJet employees at the airport or how customer service has since tossed my case around for months, never giving me any sort of answer or compensation. I was flying from Vancouver to LaGuardia with a layover in Toronto. At the Vancouver airport I was told I had to wait until I arrived at the Toronto airport to get my second boarding pass, which I thought was weird but presumed it was because it was technically an International flight. My layover was scheduled to be about 95 minutes, and my first flight landed and we offboarded about 6-7 minutes behind, no big deal. I had to use the bathroom after the first flight but instead headed straight for my second gate to be sure I could get my second boarding pass and nothing else weird happened. There was a huge line at the Toronto airport and it looked like I had to go through security again. After a little while of waiting I started to panic and asked a WestJet employee if I could please get my second boarding pass because my flight was set to start boarding in 15 minutes. The employee informed me there was no way I could get on that flight because I didn't arrive 90 minutes before take off. I explained to her that my connecting flight had just landed and I didn't have any checked luggage and my flight hadn't started boarding yet and she didn't care. I could literally see my gate just beyond the wall too. The employee told me that I could hop on a 4pm flight (it was 8am there) which would've defeated the purpose of my travel. I had to spend $400 on a rental car to get me to my final destination. The WestJet website has no "Contact Us" Information. If you call their phone number there's no extension to click to talk to anyone human. I finally found a Comments Section on their website to explain my issue, and I received an email back months later saying I wrote my comment in the wrong section and if I wanted to talk to a representative I'd have to direct my issue to a different source. This happened twice. WestJet is also affiliated with Delta somehow so I reached out to Delta as well. Both airlines claim the Flight # I had for my flight "wasn't from their airline." I work in customer service so I'm really not one to complain or write negative reviews (this is the only review I've ever written for anything) but If you're still reading this, please book your flight through any other airline. WestJet is a joke.

"not be flying WestJet anymore"

Trip Verified | I'm very disappointed with WestJet. I had my flight canceled by them on my first trip to Los Angeles. I had to pay at my expense for my hotel stay plus the taxi to get there. I was given vouchers that were no good as well. This was the June flight. I submitted my expense plus plane ticket information on their website, at least 4 times I sent all the information then I got an email from them that it was the wrong email I sent it to. They sent me the email to send it all to again so I did, its been over 6 months and they refuse to give me a reimbursement for my expenses. I've sent my information at least 24 times and I haven't heard anything back. I'm disgusted and will not be flying WestJet anymore. Still hoping for my 250 dollar hotel stay but highly doubt I'll see a penny. Everyone else on my flight got good vouchers and were told where to go not me I got given the run-around and got nothing but expenses out of my pocket. I took a second flight with WestJet for Christmas but this will be my last ever.

"Thanks for the great experience"

Trip Verified | Our flight attendant Keon was terrific. Not only did he remember us from a previous flight over a month ago but remembered how we liked our cocktails and was friendly with a great sense of humour. He made us feel special & welcome. Great service! Thanks for the great experience.

"Had 4 different delays"

Not Verified | Very disappointed in this flight! Had 4 different delays missed my connected flight in Calgary due to poor service and lack of staff. Basically could have driven to Grande Prairie in the same amount of time. I have had nothing but a bad experience with WestJet this trip. And I refuse to use WestJet from now on if I can help it. Get the staffing issue under control or the business is going to fail

"went out of his way to help us"

Trip Verified | WestJet had lost our child's carseat, and we had lost hope in finding it until one of the staff went out of their way helping us look for it. Kevin Hansen, and he went out of his way to help us locate the car seat by talking to several of his colleagues. He was incredibly busy that day, but made us feel the most important. Kevin ended up finding the car seat, and putting it on the next flight after us to Vancouver. We cannot thank you enough Kevin.

"the cabin crew was great"

Trip Verified | Honestly the cabin crew was great. Would fly again, seems like everyone here is very negative. Food can be better/bigger portions, I felt like a little more food would have made the flight perfect

"Incredibly incompetent"

Trip Verified | Absolute joke. Repeatedly, this airline has too few crew members, mechanical issues, or logistical issues. Over and over again. Incredibly incompetent and becoming increasingly expensive.

"Unbelievably disappointed"

Trip Verified | Unbelievably disorganized, no real systems integration for baggage between their outsource and master systems as far as can tell, otherwise they would know where the bag actually is. No reimbursement 'we compensate $100 per day to a maximum of $250' which they don't seem to be able to process over 21 days later. Not able to tell were baggage is. On a limited income, unable to share Christmas gifts that had been saved for for months. My family and I went to YYC SIX times and my boyfriend in Montreal on Christmas day. Unbelievable, no information, bags in makeshift rooms with made-up rules. No respect for front-line staff taking pressure from disgruntled people like myself. Signs on the wall for 'categorized' bags piled on top of one another with hand written signs, A, B, C... M on 8.5x11 sheets of white paper - no computers. Submitted receipts for reimbursement for the contingency miserly $250 - remember - limited income. And no response 21 days later. Listened to and overheard many times in lineups to get more information to made up stories of 'bags will be delivered'. How Westjet can treat its front end employees like this is shameful. Also Westjet cancelled my boyfriend's flight on Christmas day - the weather was perfect in both YYC and YUL. Rebooked him the day he was scheduled to link and provided an inoperable link to 'cancel' his flight. My family didn't believe the link worked and good thing because they actually had to go into their account and call to manually cancel. Made up stories upper management is directing the front lines to deliver. This really is shameful. Unbelievably disappointed.

"Will never fly them again"

Not Verified | Booked my $4600 all inclusive vacation in March 2020 for June flight and WestJet cancelled because of corona. Now WestJet is refusing to issue a refund in the original payment form, only WestJet dollars, which expires, can't be used on international flights and they are raising their prices compared to competitors as they know you are locked to them. Will never fly them again.

"deceitful, lying company"

Trip Verified | We were delayed 7 times then cancelled. They gathered us and told us to book hotel rooms, $40 a day per person in food. And taxi to and from the airport will be reimbursed. They would rebook us and give us a new itinerary. They also mentioned that it was a staffing issue. Not weather. The next day the storm came in. 2 days later, still nothing. We rented a vehicle and drove back. Sent in our receipts. Finally got an email back 3 weeks later and they are saying that it was weather related and we don’t get our money back for hotels or food or taxi. This is embarrassing on Westjet end and I would never recommend anyone fly with this deceitful, lying company.
