"Greyhound bus of the skies"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Orange County to Newark. Rescue me. I'm 5'5'' and 130 lbs. These planes are so small. The seats have no padding in them. Luckily I knew my seat mate as my head hovered over his knees to retrieve items from under my seat. And I do yoga! Two people can't pass in the aisles to get to the tiny bathrooms without becoming familiar. And only two privies! The direct TV is worthless if there is any turbulence. The movie choices are for 12-year-old boys. Think superhero. Gone are the hand held devices for controlling the "entertainment". Instead, money conscience engineers located the controls in the armrest. Awkward to control and easy for your neighbor to change your channel by mistake. Which happend regularly. Squeeze as many bodies in here as possible and forget about comfort. United is only interested in their bottom line. Clearly! The Greyhound bus of the skies. I do love the SNA to Newark non-stop though.

"I try to avoid United when I can"

(Norway)

Trip Verified | Ontario to San Francisco. The service at the check in was terrible as there was a long argument on checking in a 2nd suitcase. Based on the United application, used for check in, I was allowed to check in 2 suitcases (1 from the ticket, 1 as a Star Alliance Gold). Getting to the airport the employee at the desk did not accept this as the system does not allow him to do that. Showing the details on the application didn't change anything, as he simply shrugged saying that I still have to pay for the 2nd suitcase. After insisting for a while, he called someone on the phone. No change. I asked him then, what is a customer supposed to do when one cannot trust the information on the application. His response was to call the customer service before the flight. Until today, I am not sure if he was serious or was making fun of me. The plane was small, not very comfortable and inflight service includes coffee. I try to avoid United when I can.

"could not sit comfortably in my seat at all"

(United States)

Not Verified | Kansas City to San Francisco with United Airlines. As a mother, I am very appreciative of United's policy on being family friendly, however, not at the expense of other paying customers. Part of the problem I encountered on this flight maybe could have been avoided. A very adorable toddler sat directly behind me and was not a happy camper, and expressed it for the whole duration of the flight. Although, this was highly stressful for all parties involved, sometimes this can happen. However, this was excessive. In my opinion the mother was ill prepared to distract, entertain, or comfort her toddler. In this case she could have done a much better job, but sometimes children are inconsolable no matter what parents do. Given that there is such tight seating, the little guy literally kicked the back of my seat the whole 4 hour flight. It was very stressful. Having former back surgery this was very uncomfortable. I leaned forward in my seat for the majority of the flight putting strain on my back as well. I could not sit comfortably in my seat at all. In addition, I tried listening to a movie through earbuds, but having to press the earbuds into my ears just to hear. Even then, it didn't drown out the screaming. Being very tolerant and sympathetic to the little guy, I endured because it isn't his fault. I think we adults can do a better job in regards making children more comfortable during flight. I think that policy can change to help all parties involved. If United is truly family friendly and they care about their other paying customers, they can make the premier seating available to families first at no extra charge. The little ones would have more room to move around, and parents have more room to handle a wiggling uncomfortable toddler. Another option could be, for children under two years of age, the child gets a seat at no extra cost. Both of those options would truly be more friendly to all customers, but it would cut into profits. This is a real problem especially when it goes beyond a little fussiness which everyone expects. We all need more room, especially those little ones.

"voucher isn't all it's cracked up to be"

(United States)

Not Verified | Charlotte to Acapulco. That particular flight was wonderful. However, we were given a flight voucher due to seating inconvenience, for $150 which is only good on a United airlines only. Even if booking through United Airlines website and the airline is operating under United Airlines you cannot use, so if you're flying out of the country it is useless. Other than that I love United airlines we flown with them for several years on multiple trips. But I would like to make everyone aware that this voucher isn't all it's cracked up to be. Especially when most of your flying is international anyway. And they have also stopped doing a One-Stop flight from most places in the United States until the seasonal - which is generally November through Easter. So if your intentions are to fly to Mexico during any other time you will have to make two stops which is also very inconvenient.

"on-board service was fine"

(France)

Trip Verified | Kahului to Denver with United Airlines. We could check our luggage the night before our flight. No lounge at OGG. Not even a voucher for some food. Anyway on-board service was fine. We really enjoyed the night flight even with weird old configuration of 1st class seats. Food and entertainment were ok.

"Seats are old as forecasted"

(France)

Trip Verified | Denver to Washington with United Airlines. As our flight was leaving very early, we slept close to airport. We went at night to previously check our luggages. That was denied to us, on an extremely polite way. "DEN do dot accept overnight luggage". We will never know the truth. Anyway, rest of process was fine. Flight too as well as breakfast. Seats are old as forecasted.

"threatened with arrest"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Newark to Frankfurt. I think the cherry on the top the ice cream that was my flight with United was when the baggage worker at the Newark United check-in threatened to call the police when my wife used a bad word in her complaint about how incredibly rude and universally unhelpful the united staff, in general, was being. To be clear, my wife wasn't cussing out anyone. She wasn't directing an insult at anyone. She wasn't being loud. She wasn't being obscene. She complained about really bad customer service, and used a bad word as a verbal intensifier. So we were threatened with arrest.

"have been nothing but a long long wait"

(United States)

Trip Verified | This airline continually is unable to schedule takeoffs, landings and taxiing to the gate without a wait of minimum 30 minutes to 4 hours. Every flight that I have flown this year - 3 or 4 on United have been nothing but a long long wait. However, other airlines, namely Southwest and Alaska (6 flights), don’t have a timing problem. I am asking you all to boycott United, until they learn to put their customers first. United could not care if we sit for hours on a runway either waiting to take off or waiting to get to a gate. Let’s give our money to the airlines that respect us and treat us well.

"it was the worst experience"

(France)

Trip Verified | Paris to Santo Domingo via Newark. For me it was the worst experience of my life a real poison that managed to spoil my vacation. I only want to go home so I am exhausted with these problems. For a first time with them I'm shocked and I never had this problem with any other company. Delays of 5 hours (4 hours to wait in the plane to get us out of the plane at the 5th hour) but it's not all the excitement is that my suitcase is lost or late for now I do not know not. Everyone with their suitcases except me ... for the delay every hour I received an SMS informing me of the change and the continuity of the delay was A nightmare. As far as my suitcase is concerned, everything in medicine etc is very important because here no French pharmacy and prescription in the bag.

"Worst airline I've ever flown"

(United States)

Not Verified | Worst airline I've ever flown. United used to be an average, run of the mill US Airline. Starting a few years ago they began charging for every little thing, their customer service tanked and their ability to check people in and have flights arrive on time is abysmal. After my last terrible experience with a 5 hour delay with no reason given, I swore to never fly United again. Unfortunately for this trip, the airline I booked with changed schedules that no longer accommodated my trip. I booked through Priceline and the ticket was through United. United is one of the only major airlines that skimps on meals/snacks in the air. If you want more than water, pull out your credit card. They are also one of the only major airlines that have a 9"x14" carry on size. Sure, almost all airlines charge you for checked baggage but they also allow you to bring a carry on that you can fit things in. Unless you can pack in a briefcase you'll be paying United's $60 fee for ONE bag. United has NO in flight entertainment. Unless of course you want to pay extra for that. Their leg room is ridiculous, except they did move around some seats on a few of their planes recently so that there are few rows with extra leg room. And you can pay extra for that. Did you want your flight to dependably arrive on time? Too bad you can't pay extra for that. Unless the stars align, you're SOL if you're flying United. Lesson learned, I will never book through Priceline again on the off chance that I get assigned a flight through United.
