Cathay Pacific Airways

Cathay is generally very good all around and this trip was down a notch or two for a few reasons : food quality was not up to standard out of LHR or NRT, though not as bad out of HKG. On HKG-LHR leg though they did not have enough mid-flight meals for all passengers, which I find hard to fathom given people are paying thousands for the ticket and the meal only costs Cathay a few quid to produce. They should overstock, not understock the flight. The other complaint on the trip was the regionally configured plane from NRT-HKG is a poor excuse for business class on a four hour leg. No reason not to run flat beds on that route, considering the importance of it and the fact that some flights are overnight. Won't pay for that again. On the positive side, Cathay service always top notch and efficient.

Cathay were excellent in all ways apart from the food which has to be the worst airline food I have had. Pasta was burnt to dish, scrambled eggs were tough - very dissapointed. The Premium cabin was comfortable and clean.

Our annual journey to Vancouver, started this time with a CX flight to Osaka. Newish 777. Plenty of room as flight was not full. Tasty breakfast, good entertainment. Just the typical no hassle flight one comes to expect from this carrier. How we wished we were flying with them back to HKG instead of on disastrous AC. The service is poles apart from check-in to arrival.

Perfect flight in Premium Economy ZRH-HKG and HKG-ZRH in Seat 34K (last Row). Top Planes, very clean, friendly staff, good food, nice entertainment. Just like expected. Seat is very wide and comfortable compared to Premium Eco with British Airways. Plaza Premium Lounge was very crowded. Luggage arrived very quickly, both in HKG and ZRH.

I traveled business class LHR-HKG-SYD on 29/4/15 and returned SYD-HKG-MAN on 11/5/15.I was from Sydney to Hong Kong. The Cabin crew were friendly and helpful with efficient service. Food and service was excellent.

We travelled on 13/4/2015 CX0104 Melb to Hong Kong to Paris Rome to Hong Kong to Melb Premium Economy. My husband was a first time flyer and very nervous about flying. We were shocked when we found we were separated with our seating and they did nothing to change it and we were put in front of the balk head on two of the legs. The food was very ordinary and Economy got the same menu we had to use the economy toilets we didn't have priority boarding on all legs. Cabin staff were very scarce throughout all legs unless they were going from business to the rear of the plane. The final straw was we were given a chocolate with one of our meals and couldn't believe it was 2 years out of date. We were given our last meal 2hrs before we landed at 12 o'clock at night which was unacceptable as we were going home to bed at that time.

We debated the value of Premium Economy for ages before booking our return flights Melbourne to Europe however the added value from the price increase was truly substantial. Much better seat room for both width and recline. Great in-flight service with some really excellent food (albeit average out of Hong Kong) and priority boarding and check-in. The only minor disappointment is the very limited selection of in-flight recent movies. Enough to keep us occupied for both journeys but really not a great deal of choice overall. TV selections and music was better but nothing spectacular.

Traveled CX826 Hong Kong 1/5/2015. We started to load late then once we were boarding everyone came forward the whole plane was boarding in one line while a hostess went up the line stamping boarding passes - we must have stood waiting for a good 45 mins. We were in the second last row so we had to struggle past all the others to get to our seats. This flight takes 15 hours so we got two meals in total they did bring a snack but they closed all the blinds and turned off all the lights what snacks there were you couldn't see.

Travelled on CX100 to Paris on 16 April 2015 and returned CX111 14th May economy class. Both flights were full except for a couple of seats. Overall my trip was average. Limited number of toilets for that many people. Food was minimal and bland compared to other airlines. On my first leg of the trip the sound was not working and the only choice I had was to move to the very back of the plane. It totally spoilt my trip. There was no foot peddle to rest your feet on so the pressure is reduced to the back of the legs. This is very important for 'short people' to reduce the risk of DVT. All other airlines flying the long leg have them. The water given to passengers was very metallic in taste and not drinkable. When we flew out of Hong Kong the security staff suddenly set up a barrier just before entering the plane and confiscated all the passengers water bottles and duty free bottles. How is this acceptable when the duty free stores sell you alcohol only to have this confiscated before boarding. They said this was an Australian ruling. A number of people requested bottles of water when entering the cabin but were refused. Why wasn't there an announcement before entering the aircraft that bottled water was not allowed. I would not have bought my new bottle and OJ prior to boarding. We could only get the 'metal tasting water'. The crew were accommodating but that's all. The seat in front of me did not stay completely upright. The man sitting in it was large but I felt that he would collapse in my lap any moment. The maintenance for the aircraft could have been better.

Travelled Melbourne to London Heathrow via Hong Kong (and return) in business with my elderly mother and my husband. The flights were all busy with the exception of the last leg from Hong Kong to Melbourne however the staff could not have been more helpful. They went out of their way to pay special attention to my mother ensuring she was comfortable and entertained. The service was excellent and the food and wine tasty and very well presented. One of the best things about Cathay business class apart from the service is the space. Plenty of space for everything and seat reclines to a comfortable bed. We would recommend Cathay and will definitely use them again.
