ANA All Nippon Airways

We flew ANA biz class ORD to NRT recently and were very pleased by everything. The food seat comfort and especially the gracious service provided were excellent. I see Why they are a 5* airline.

Flew BKK-NRT-ORD on NH916 (27/08/13) to connect NH12 (28/08/13) and then ORD-NRT-BKK via NH11 (07/09/13) and NH915 (08/09/13) on B/C. Excellent inflight services on all flights. Very profession crew. Well designed dining table on the NRT-ORD legs that allows easy movement even when meals are served. The only negative side is the B767 for the BKK-NRT legs which have rather poor quality IFE screens.

LAX-HND on Boeing 777. ANA used to be one of my favorites I was a bronze member in 2010 and 2011. It has steadily declined since the mid 2000s and its economy class should now be considered solely for Japanese people wedded to Japanese airlines. It combines the worst of an American-style approach (cut costs to the bone) with the worst of Japanese service (absolutely no independent thought/action on the part of flight attendants and no exceptions. I recently had to endure pain for an entire 12+ hour flight for a reason that would have been easily remedied by a flight attendant on another airline. Economy seats are terribly cramped food is cheap and primarily carbohydrates (bread/rice) flight attendants have poor English skills and English-language video offerings are lacking. On the positive side flight attendants are polite smile a lot and apologize for their mistakes. You don't necessarily need to avoid it but given a choice between ANA and another major Asian or US airline choose the other airline.

NRT-SJC on Boeing 787. The seat was comfortable for economy and had a generous 34 inch pitch. ANA is a very good airline with efficient attentive and very courteous service. The food was good but if you are vegetarian or do not eat red meat then be sure to order a special meal. Each seat had a laptop power port and the AVOD was better than average but if they do another AVOD refresh they will be one of the best Asian carriers. They do rank in my top 5 best airlines that I have flown Next you want to fly to Asia give ANA a try you will not regret it.

NH011 25Aug ORD-NRT. From takeoff to touchdown the flight was exceptional. Check in was smooth boarding was efficient and pushback was on time. The cabin staff could not have been more gracious or helpful. The food and beverage services were excellent. The attention to detail was excellent and staff were most attentive. We sat in the forward J class cabin with only 2 rows are found it very comfortable. We were not distracted by the washrooms or galley. The ANA pods are very comfortable even for me at 6'3". A real "5 Star" experience.

SFO-MNL return. Flight Attendants were good attentive and responsive. Plane was clean (777) the food was above average. We had a delays from SFO to Narita and Narita back to SFO. Seats were really uncomfortable. A shame as I would definitely recommend them except for the seating comfort. Change your seats ANA.

DEL-NRT-SJC and back. DEL-NRT leg was Boeing 767 while NRT-SJC was Dreamliner 787. The latter is an experience by itself. Windows can be made from transparent to translucent to near opaque by touch of a button located on the window seat. Cabin luggage storage capacity is great and still designed to give a greater sense of space within the aircraft. Lavatories are worth mentioning. The door opening is more convenient and don't have to be pushed like older aircraft. Basin is wider hand motion sensitive and self-draining. Toilet seat is also motion activated for closure and flush. Overall journey in the Dreamliner is less tiring than older aircraft. Cabin crew and staff exemplary. Very courteous always smiling and ready to help. They are always around even when the lights have been dimmed pay prompt attention to any requests pick up anything lying on the floor or elsewhere and cleanliness level is great. Highly recommend flying by this airline.

NH 011 1 Jul 2013. ANA is very nice. Flying non-stop ORD to NRT was amazing. The seat was soft. Lots of space. Staff were very kind. They helped passengers set up their blankets and tend to other requests. Entertainment was okay. Very few movies in English.

Chicago-Tokyo-Singapore. All legs of the trips were comfortable with lots of room between the seats. The seats contain a plug to charge the computer! The seat is comfortable even though it does not recline. The food was nice and the crew kept strolling with drinks during the flight. I thought they were attentive and extremely polite. 3 of the 4 flights had some sort of delays mostly due to bad weather and tarmac wait. We were well informed and the crew did its best to speak to each passenger when there were connections. In flight entertainment is not very rich in international movies (other than Japanese). Overall fly on ANA is a major step up compared any US airline and Air Canada.

Flew 777 Los Angeles non-stop to Tokyo. My problem was that I am considerably larger than the average Japanese and the seat although it would go full flat was cramped for me. The cabin was also kept too warm - but most of the Japanese passengers were cold!
