"absolutely terrible experience"

Trip Verified | If you want your flight delayed or canceled book American Airlines. This was an absolutely terrible experience. My flight was delayed for over an hour. Tons of peoples flights canceled all in time for Christmas.

"Will not fly with American Airlines again"

Trip Verified | The worst trip my daughter had to experience from this airline. They stopped the pilots from flying due to them almost going over there flying hours, the worst part is they put the pilot in a nice hotel and put there customers in a nasty run down hotel (shame on American Airlines. A billion dollars company treating there customers this way especially when they had to cancel and accommodate them. My daughter couldn’t sleep and cried all night. Will not fly with American Airlines again.

"how poorly this airline is run"

Not Verified | It’s difficult to describe how bad American Airlines is. Utter chaos Dec 19 2022. Flight delayed with the famous rolling thirty minute delays. Changed to another flight. Plane taken out of set due to mechanical issues. Wait for new plane with zero communication from gate staff. “You know as much as we do. You’ll know when the new plane is coming when we do.”. Again, rolling delays. Original flight that was delayed ended up being delayed four times. Just awful gate staff. No help from AA customer service. You cannot count on anything they tell you. . Finally get to Cancun and missed our shuttle. Spent $70 for a taxi. Again. Difficult to describe how poorly this airline is run.

"every single flight was over an hour late"

Not Verified | We flew round trip from Tennessee to Texas, having a layover in Charlotte. We were headed to my step mother’s funeral. EVERY SINGLE FLIGHT WAS OVER AN HOUR LATE. We arrived at Charlotte on the way to Texas. What should’ve been a 2.5 hr layover ended up being 3.5 hr layover. We arrived to Texas late and had to stay two hours after we landed to hunt our luggage that was left in Charlotte. It took forever for us to get a placement on our luggage and when we would receive it. A lady in customer service over the phone assisted us quickly but everyone before her played the blame game and said there was little to be done. By the time we tracked the LATE plane carrying our luggage, WE MISSED THE FUNERAL. On the way back to Tennessee, our plane was 2 hr late which made us miss our final plane that was scheduled to land at 3:55pm. We now are waiting to board a flight that’s scheduled to board at 10:25pm. Each flight should’ve been no more than 4/5 hr total but ended up being an all day travel. I WILL NEVER FLY WITH THEM EVER AGAIN! I heard this has happened several times prior; but against my better judgement, I wanted to give them a try. Not to mention, they double charged us for a flight that we’ve not received credit back for; and the people working boarding desk are extremely rude. The only reason I’m giving them a 1 star is because it ring allow me to rate them at a zero.

"Take your money elsewhere"

Trip Verified | This is the absolute worst airline, please save your money and book with literally anyone else. I booked a flight with American to attend my best friends college graduation. Departing flight was delayed 12 hours due to the plane being out of service with no replacement. On my returning flight, we were told the plane was on time, then delayed, then on time. After all passengers were boarded and the gate was closed, we sat for 30 minutes, only to be told that our plane would not be leaving, we were to de-plane, and that we were not leaving until the next day. The story was that they “didn’t assign” a maintenance check to ensure safety to fly earlier in the day. (11.30am departure the following day when initially scheduled for 10.25pm departure) makes no sense, American is terrible. Take your money elsewhere.

"gate agent having an attitude"

Trip Verified | American Airlines kept delaying my flight. What was the purpose of paying extra to change for a early flight when it still got delayed. My main issue was the female gate agent having an attitude when asked to be assisted on a flight that was leaving sooner and wasn’t full.

"Good job, American Airlines"

Trip Verified | Even with a five hour delay due to staffing issues, American Airlines did a fabulous job. There is really nothing to complain about when you’re flying onboard a 6 year old Boeing 787 in a premium economy seat for the price of an “extra legroom” seat on a domestic flight. The onboard crew was very polite and friendly and the ground staff was wonderful during this five hour delay. As we entered the plane they apologized to each individual passenger, and even issued everyone who asked a meal voucher. Once up in the air, the Captain apologized to everyone onboard over the PA system and even got us to Philadelphia ahead of the protected time of arrival. As someone who is constantly flying, the way American Airlines handled this entire delay was fantastic, I don’t understand what all that negative complaining is about. Good job, American Airlines!

"get your act together"

Trip Verified | When it comes to being unreliable, no one does it better than American Airlines. My flight kept getting delayed by several hours and then we boarded. However, I’m not sure why we boarded because there were no available pilots for another hour. This Airline had customers buying tickets but didn’t allocate the proper number of pilots to meet demand. I get home several hours late because of the business model of this company. This should not be allowed. This should not be legal. Seriously AA, get your act together if you’re going to sell us these overpriced tickets. I will never again fly American Airlines.

"food was worse than anything I’ve eaten"

Not Verified | It is obvious American Airlines has prioritized business strategy over customer service, so just be transparent with customers about that. Seating was cramped but passable (I’m 6’2” so this is always an issue for me). Staff couldn’t be bothered to seem interested in their job and were very dismissive to patrons. Both of those things are excusable as I understand the nature of long flights and shoddy scheduling/staffing on the part of their management. The part that made this one of the worst flights of my life was the food. The food was worse than anything I’ve eaten in the field as a military member (and I’ve spent weeks at a time without hot meals) or even school cafeteria. Their only redemption was Bejeweled and Tetris on the in flight games to distract me. If American Airlines considers themselves the new Spirit or Omni Air, then just say that so I can manage my own expectations. After this flight I’m telling anyone and everyone I know to do their best to take any other airline if they want a quality experience.

"In flight services were very good"

Trip Verified | Everything from check in thru security to boarding went very smoothly. In flight services were very good. Seats were comfortable and inflight entertainment operated perfectly. This was an afternoon flight so there were only 2 selections for lunch. Both were cold plates but they were tasty and plentiful. Overall, my experience was very good. It was about a 2 1/2 hour flight and it went quickly. Cabin crew was very attentive to all passengers in my section of the plane.
