"All they care about is money"

(United States)

Not Verified | They will not refund or transfer tickets. They will not aid you in anyway all because of policies that allow more money. I purchased a first class ticket for my one year old and myself and because of the pandemic we unexpectedly have my husband coming with us. (Things have been up in the air) but we’re moving again because of the pandemic and no longer being able to afford our apartment to Oklahoma from NY. My child will not use his seat he will be in my lap the entire time. He’s 1. Yet apparently I cannot transfer his ticket to my husbands name and my husband cannot use that seat that we paid for already! AA will do nothing to fix this or attempt to help us. They want money so bad they said buy another first class ticket for 270$ or don’t but it’s not their problem. I’m aware of company policy but the idea that during a national crisis they aren’t more Lenient and Wouldn’t do a single thing to help a family about to me homeless sickens me to my core. I couldn’t even afford the tickets I already bought. I had to buy first class to keep away from the crowds in the back of the plane with my infant and get extra bags on board (it was cheaper with how much we need to move). All they care about is money not the people and their is no help. So for anyone out their a little unsure of flying - don’t support this airline and read the fine print extra because they won’t be making exceptions for anyone even in a time of national crisis.

"No social distancing at all"

(United States)

Trip Verified | El Paso to Dallas Ft Worth. American canceled our flight and put us on an earlier flight. The plane was delayed due to mechanical issues. 40 minutes later we board. Small plane and packed. No social distancing at all! Broken items on the plane. Finally we were told we are getting off this plane and will be getting on a new plane. Still waiting so let’s see

"flexible with bookings"

(Spain)

Trip Verified | American Airlines is my number one for great customer support and amazing membership awards. I fly to States almost every other month, and I choose American Airlines every time. I honestly sometimes choose them among cheaper options for the same trip. I know when I need help with my booking, they are so easy to reach and come up with a solution. They are very flexible with bookings especially in these difficult lockdown days.

American Airlines customer review

(United States)

Trip Verified | I booked a business trip from West Palm Beach to Philadelphia on March 7th. I had to cancel my flight when the business meeting was cancelled due to the COVID crisis more than a month before the trip. I was expecting a refund on my next credit card statement, but none was forthcoming. When I contacted American Airlines to request a refund, I was told there would be none. In a calm voice I said that this would influence my choice of carriers the next time I flew...she hung up on me! I will never fly American Airlines again,

"refuses to refund us our money"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I am very disappointed after talking to American. We had our Honeymoon booked for October. I have been a member for over 6 years, and they cannot do anything to help us. We are supposed to be going to Thailand, but some of the other flights in Thailand have been cancelled (so we cannot get to our final destination). While domestic Thailand flights were not booked through American, our other flights to TBangkok were. So now we have no way of getting to Krabi (Where our hotels are) once we get to Thailand. But American refuses to refund us our money for our flights or help us out at all with our $2,767.50 (they are just giving us vouchers). I get it is crazy times and everyone has stuff going on, but I cannot believe they were rude and couldn't help us out at all. I am very disappointed with how they are handling things.

"I tried to get a refund"

(United States)

Not Verified | The worst airline I've ever used. My flight got cancelled due to COVID-19 and I tried to get a refund but the agents were rude, and at every step of the way I had to argue with them for my right to a refund. They made it extremely difficult for me. I am a student and I can't afford to have money stolen from me like this.

"said we’ll give you a credit"

(United States)

Trip Verified | My last time with AA was actually 5yrs ago with my 2 younger children one of which is Autistic, we were traveling for a funeral staff was beyond rude and not understanding. Recently I booked a flight thinking I would give the airline a 2nd chance - well they failed my event was cancelled due to Covid19 and I requested a refund. They said we’ll give you a credit to use by 2021 when I asked if I don’t use it they said, well We tried. Given current times and people not working you would think some modicum of compassion would be shown, I don’t fly often and to now have 2 bad experiences this one costing me nearly $800 is an expensive lesson to learn. The lack of professionalism with those on the phone and by email is infuriating I do understand this Pandemic has effected them as well I am not blind to that but seriously.

"pleasant and professional"

(United States)

Not Verified | Auckland to Los Angeles. In mid-March, my wife and I were on week three vacationing in New Zealand when we received an e-mail from American Airlines, “one of your flights was cancelled and we were unable to rebook your trip from Auckland to Los Angeles. Please call for help. We’re sorry for the change to your travel plans.” This was attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic global crises. We telephoned the 800 number and to our surprise, it was answered in a short time. The staff explained she was a rep for American Airlines working out of her home in South Carolina. She understood our predicament and stated she would do her best to get us a return flight. She kept us on hold and checked back every couple of minutes as she navigated several contacts to various “help desk” and other agencies to search for a flight. We used Alaska Air miles to make our original purchase which also complicated matters. She was successful in getting us a return flight on Qantas out of Sydney. She made all the connecting flight arrangements and provided us with all the information to accommodate the journey. This became very important as Qantas had no offices in New Zealand and a five-hour wait on the telephone. The airports in New Zealand and Sydney were bursting at the seams with stranded Americans and Canadians trying to return to their homeland. We cannot say enough good things about the pleasant and professional service we received from American Airlines. We arrived back to our home well aware there were many folks not so fortunate.

"will not give me a refund"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I bought tickets to Vegas in Feb 2020 (before everything was shut down). We all know everything is shut down at least until 30 April. My tickets were from 17-20 April. My show tickets were canceled, my hotel has been canceled, but for some reason American Airlines will not give me a refund. They are only offering a credit which expires 31 December. This is a worldwide pandemic! I have no control over what’s happening in the world so why are you keeping my money when everyone has lost jobs! I will never buy another flight from American Airlines!

"a reschedule by December 2020"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Like so many others I had to cancel my flight reservations due to the Covid19 Pandemic. I was scheduled to fly with American Airlines on April 3, 2020. My home state has a stay at home policy and the state where I was traveling does too. So obviously I had to cancel. I spent a total of $1771 in airfare and all they are giving me is a reschedule by December 2020 policy. Which probably will amount to a loss for me given the unfair expiration date. There is a lot involved for me to reschedule this trip. For one no one knows when it will be safe to travel again and when it is there are other obstacles. Like my kids needing to go back to school, and recovering from the total loss of income. My friend was flying the same day as me (April 3rd) but flying with SA airlines. They gave him till June 2021 to reschedule. Which is more than a year past his original travel date. That’s a little more reasonable. I should add the other part of their policy is If the new ticket is less expensive than the original, any remaining amount may be forfeited. They should be ashamed to call themselves American! They are doing nothing for the American people at this unimaginable time. Oh and remember they will be getting a government bailout. So then you can say they are double dipping by not giving us a refund. The least they could do is offer us more time to use what we paid for. Better yet how about a credit that never expires and works like cash so we don’t lose any of it.
