Qatar Airways Business Class Flight Review London to Bangkok via Doha
London to Bangkok via Doha in business in September. Check in was great and as they had
changed the aircraft on the Doha-Bangkok leg we were split up. The staff at check in managed
to move around a couple of people to seat us together for which we were very grateful as
initially they said we would have to sort this out in Doha.
Flights on Airbus 340-600 on both London legs which were great. We had the bulkhead on the
outbound and the return a little further back on the A/C seats. All seats were excellent with
a good level of recline, although not fully flat. Service was fantastic from the cabin staff
and nothing could be faulted.
The Doha-Bangkok sectors were scheduled on the Boeing 777 and were swapped from a 2-class
B777 to a 3-class A330. No first class upgrades were given out and they left this cabin empty,
cramming everyone else into a much smaller business cabin.
My seat tray table would not come out so the very nice FA confirmed we could eat in the first
class section - we dined together using the buddy seat, but due to heavy turbulence half way
through, we were moved to individual seats to finish the meal until the turbulence passed
which took about an hour. Service was good throughout and nothing to complain about. The
flat beds on the Boeing 777 were superior to the beds on the other types of aircraft.
Transfers at Doha were dealt with efficiently, with all business class taken by 1 bus to the
premium terminal. On the final leg, we drove around to the other side of the airport which
took about 20 minutes to get to the aircraft - unbelievable for such a small airport.
Pyjamas were given out on 3 legs as they were overnight flights and amenity kits with Molton
Brown were given out on all 4 leg. Champagne was served before take off, along with juices
and water.
Overall, fantastic service from everyone we came into contact with - staff at LHR at BKK and
in DOH. The only downside was the Cathay Pacific lounge used at LHR which I understand will
not be used from the end of the year as Qatar Airways will have their own lounge in T4 in
future.
