Virgin America Premium Economy Class Flight Review Los Angeles to Seattle
DEPARTURE SERVICE
Terminal 3 at LAX has a very basic array of shopping and dining. There is no reason to linger
here, just clear security and go to the gate. On the return, Virgin America's gates in
Seattle are a long walk from security. The Virgin America ground agents in both airports were
polite and kept the boarding process orderly.
CABIN APPEARANCE
The cabins on the A319 flight each way are immaculate, but a bit too white. The white seats
and white walls create a glare and reflect too much sunlight when the windows are open. They
need to add a bit more contrasting colour to keep glare down.
SEATING COMFORT
Virgin America markets its bulkhead and exit rows in economy as premium economy. I was seated
in a bulkhead row which left enough room for my legs and allowed me to get to the aisle
without the passenger next to me having to stand up and move. The leather seats were soft and
comfortable to sit in.
ONBOARD CATERING
The food was surprisingly tasty. Portions are small, tapas-style on a 2hr flight but
presentation is good and the order on demand feature is convenient.
INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
Each seat has an individual IFE monitor on the back of the seat in front of it, and the
bulkhead seats have a pull-out monitor from the armrest. The selection of movies, audio
tracks and satellite TV is excellent by US domestic standards, but the satellite sometimes
cuts out.
CABIN STAFF SERVICE
The attitude of onboard staff is much more pleasant and professional than the unionised drones
on most other US. airlines. Efficiency is also superior.
FLIGHT ARRIVAL
Deplaning at both Seattle and Los Angeles was quick and efficient. Virgin America's gates in
Seattle are at the end of the concourse and a rather long walk to/from security/baggage
claim/rental car facilities. I did not have any checked bags so can't speak for baggage
delivery.
CUSTOMER TRIP VERDICT
Virgin America's product in all classes is vastly superior to any other US airline. The
food is higher quality, the employees are more efficient and more pleasant to the customer and
the inflight entertainment is superior (if the satellite is working properly). Virgin America
is by far the best airline in the USA.
