Alaska Airlines First Class Flight Review Seattle to Kauai
DEPARTURE SERVICE
Driving up from the Portland area, we arrived at first class check in at 3:25pm. Our flight's scheduled
departure time was 4:10pm. Were promptly told that they would not check our bags as it was less than 40
minutes until departure of our flight. I asked to speak to a Supervisor. The Supervisor I spoke with
couldn't have been less caring about my situation. He offered no assistance at all. We missed our flight,
losing a day of our vacation. Our only salvation was a gate agent, Robert. He was helpful and got us
seats on the next day's flight.
CABIN APPEARANCE
The first class cabin area was worn looking but very clean and water with napkins were waiting in the arm
rest of our seats.
SEATING COMFORT
Seat width, pitch and leg room were fine. Overall seating comfort was poor as the seats are not deeply
upholstered. This made catching a nap, or sleeping on our return, impossible.
ONBOARD CATERING
Service in general was attentive. The place settings for meals were nice with linen napkins and tray
covers, stainless flatware; garnished by decorative island flowers. The meal was way better than first
class meals I have been served on other airlines for continental US flights. Impressed with the visual
appearance of the entrees. But taste was another matter. Desert was quite good, a chocolate mousse and
berries.
INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
We were given our own digiplayers which come loaded with movies, music, music videos and TV shows. This
is a very nice touch. My wife and I enjoyed having our own personal entertainment center for the duration
of the flight. (I do recommend using your own ear buds or headphones as the sound quality of the ones
given to you is poor).
CABIN STAFF SERVICE
Cabin service remained good until the last hour and a half of the flight, when the attendants just
mingled with people they knew and ended up ignoring the rest of the passengers in the first class cabin.
This made getting drink refills pretty tough. Requests for blankets and pillows were met with, “were
sorry, we don't have them.” Coach passengers used the bathrooms in first class continually throughout the
flight. Return service was much better.
FLIGHT ARRIVAL
Arrival and baggage claim at the Lihue airport posed no problems and was easy to figure out.
CUSTOMER TRIP VERDICT
The overall service, both on-board and during pre-boarding in Lihue was fine. The initial problems with
our check-in in Seattle were addressed directly to senior management at the airline. For me, because of
how our complaint was handled determined that I will not use Alaska Airlines again for vacation travel.
Barring a similar incident, you should be fine if you decide to fly first class on Alaska Airlines for
your vacation . Just get checked in early for your flight.
