Asiana Airlines Business Class Flight Review Los Angeles to Hong Kong via ICN
DEPARTURE SERVICE
The Asiana ground staff did the best they could managing the nightmare that is LAX. Boarding was chaotic
and caused a 70 minute delay in departure.
CABIN APPEARANCE
LAX-ICN leg was operated by an older 747-400 Combi that looked and felt well-worn. The ICN-HKG elg was
operated by a new Airbus 330-300 in much better condition.
SEATING COMFORT
Both flights had above average biz class seating, 180 degree flat recline, power ports and seat controls
that allowed for a wide variety of configurations. The 747-400 seats did feel well-used and a bit lumpy,
however.
ONBOARD CATERING
Well above average. I chose the traditional Korean menu, which because it consists of mostly cold dishes
tasted fresher and less processed than most airline food. Presentation and serving efficiency were
excellent.
INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
Well above average. Good selection of Korean, Chinese and English movies, short programmes and music.
The seat monitor is of good size, audio-visual quality was very good.
CABIN STAFF SERVICE
This is where Asiana earns its 5-star rating. All cabin staff were cheerful, efficient and attentive.
Water and non-alcoholic beverages were available upon demand. Staff attitude was professional, courteous
and welcoming.
FLIGHT ARRIVAL
Ground staff were available outside the arrival gate to direct passengers to customs/immigration, and
then outside customs/immigration to direct passengers to the connecting gates. Nearly all staff spoke
good English. Baggage arrived in HKG without incident.
CUSTOMER TRIP VERDICT
Asiana offers a superior business class product, and truly earns its 5-star rating through the high
standard of onboard service. The fare was not cheap but the outstanding service justifies the cost
