US Airways Economy Class Flight Review Philadelphia to Manchester
DEPARTURE SERVICE
Philadelphia is basically a self service check in (including bags). Staff were helpful and therefore no
difficulties but without help it could have been problematic
CABIN APPEARANCE
Immediate impression was that it was cramped but it was clean and the aircraft appeared reasonably
well maintained. Toilets were kept clean.
SEATING COMFORT
Seating is the worst I have ever experienced on an international flight. Had to be only 31"
seat pitch at most and not certain as to whether it was even 17.5 wide. Recline was limited and
the seat itself (although it was leather) was not very comfortable. The [entertainment] box under
the seat in front severely restricted room to place feet. Note this aircraft (A330) is their 'flagship'.
ONBOARD CATERING
Evening was a salad with dressing, main meal was some form of BBQ chicken but tasted peculiar and
therefore I left it. Interestingly the meal out from Manchester (lunch) was quite tasty. Breakfast was a
warm apple roll - I passed on the coffee having tried it with my dinner. I was also unimpressed that
I was asked to pay $7.00 for a can of Budweiser.
INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT
Paid $5.00 for headphones (yes this is an international flight and most other airlines do not
charge), the sound level was limited and therefore difficult to hear the soundtack of a movie. Oh
and the screen had a rolling problem. Movie Selection was very limited and exactly the same as the
trip from Man to Phl - its only changed once a month
CABIN STAFF SERVICE
They did their job efficiently. No arguments here.
FLIGHT ARRIVAL
Arrived early, deplaning and baggage receipt was reasonably ok.
CUSTOMER TRIP VERDICT
US Airways was chosen purely as it was point to point. The fare was not significantly different from
its competitors to influence choice. Next time however I will use a European airline as seat pitch
is mostly better and I am not expected to pay for headphones or a beer. The major US airlines do not
seem to understand there is a difference between domestic and transatlantic and need to look at the
European/Middle Eastern/Asian competition to understand what economy passengers on international
flights get elsewhere.
