Finnair Business Class Flight Review New York JFK to Helsinki


DEPARTURE SERVICE

Finnair uses AA's Terminal 8 in a dedicated area, with its own staff and on TSA checked bags security line. My early check-in was courteous and very quick. The lounge is AA's well appointed Admiral's Club, plenty of Finnish newspapers, spartan on food and drinks (nut mix, apples, carrot sticks and one drink voucher).


CABIN APPEARANCE

2 well lit and clean business class cabins upfront in the MD 11. Curious mix of 6 and 7 abreast. Plenty of reading material (read this, AA). No amenity kits except socks and mask at seat. Toothbrushes, cloth towels and shavers in lavatories.


SEATING COMFORT

New "flat angled" shell seats very narrow but with receding armrests. Similar to Iberia.Though less angled than on Swiss, full lie down position is not comfortable unless you manage to squeeze your carry-on bag on top of leg rest and under feet, which makes you horizontal.


ONBOARD CATERING

2 high quality meals, dinner and breakfast, too much for a 7 hour flight, especially as sevice is slow. Outstanding wine list, probably among world's best. Basic bar in lavatory area.


INFLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT

CABIN STAFF SERVICE

Slow. Safety paranoid crew stored passenger shoes in overhead lockers for take off, as well as water bottles they had just distributed (?!!), then remained glued to their seat for 30 minutes after take off in no turbulence conditions. During that period, seats intentionally remained stuck in high position (a first, exasperating).


FLIGHT ARRIVAL

Close connections and gates displayed on aircraft monitors, Vantaa airport is compact and immaculate, fairly quick bags delivery. no arrivals lounge.


CUSTOMER TRIP VERDICT

Good product, can be improved by having more responsive and fast acting crews (seats locked for ridiculous time, no quickmeal service, noisy early awakening even if no breakfast is wanted)
