DEPARTURE
Check-in was a mess with huge queues and not enough desks for the number of people. Once through was
very simple, quiet and boarding was efficient.
CABIN
Great cabin (A340) was very open and airy with good lighting that gave the impression of space. The
cabin was very clean and tidy, was presented well. Was a big difference from the cabin of the dark
and cramped 747 for the outbound journey.
SEATING
The seats had a pitch of 31" which was enough for me (I am only 5ft 7) but this is a problem for
larger people. Compared to airlines such as Thai Airways with a pitch of 34" it's poor. The seats
were generally comfortable.
CATERING
Both the dinner and breakfast were of good quality and served/cleared quickly and efficently.
CABIN STAFF SERVICE
The staff were very friendly and provided a polite service which was always with a smile.
FLIGHT ARRIVAL
Disembarkation was slow and not at a jet way, had to wait around on the tarmac for a bus to take us
to the terminal.
CUSTOMER VERDICT
I was impressed with the service of the crew on-board. The entertainment was very good with a great
selection of on-demand movies etc. Seats were comfortable and the airplane was modern and quiet. I
would not travel on an older AF plane and I do feel they need to sort out some of their ground
operations such as check-in at JNB. Despite this I would fly with them again on modern aircraft.
