Even though the seats are equipped with 3 levels of recline, there is insufficient space between
seats to allow a full recline without infringing on other passenger's space. My husband and I just
endured a 9 hour torture flight from Frankfurt with the two passengers in front "lying in our laps".
The passengers became irate and verbally abusive when we moved or in anyway interfered with their
right to fully recline. Since I am only 61 inches tall, I do not recline my seat very far, as it
places strain on the lower back; therefore, most times I am upright and when the seat in front is
fully reclined, I can't move without jostling the seat in front. My husband and I were basically
held hostage in our seats because of the insolent passengers in front who insisted on maximum
reclining position. When they could not get a full recline because my knees were against the seat
back, they initiated games designed to ensure that their seat backs banged against my knees with
maximum force. Our slightest movement infuriated them and precipitated not only verbal retaliation,
but more thrusting of the seat. The female in front actually put her foot on the side wall behind
the seat in front of her and forcefully slammed the seat back into me. This happened relentlessly
over the entire flight. A new spacing standard needs to be implemented that takes into account the
infringement of my space when the person in front is in maximum recline position.
