"recommend sitting in rows 6 and 7"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | I recommend sitting in rows 6 and 7 on Icelandair's 737 aircraft. There is better legroom than in seats at the rear of the aircraft and the screens are on the seatback, rather than in the seats in row 5, which are in the armrest and quite small. I recommend avoiding selecting seats in row 5 of Icelandair's B737 aircraft.

"seating experience is just so bad"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Do you relish the thought of the seat in front of you being mere inches from your face when you take an international flight? How about dreaming of your backside numb for hours on end because there is no viable escape if you are in a window seat? What are your thoughts on a cabin temperature kept to a steady 80 degrees? If these things, and experiences just like them, are your idea of a good time, forge ahead. I’ve been to Iceland around 40 times since 2012. I tolerated the increasingly ancient 757s interiors because I knew the Max 8 was coming. It seems like a lost opportunity. The seating experience is just so bad that any attempt to overcome via in flight service and amenities is lost. One less row in this plane and you can be a human. I fly all manner of classes for work all over the world. Often I get the great lie flat business class seats because I am a United 1k member but I also often am in economy, and that’s OK. It evens out. But this is just ridiculous.

"we found the seats comfortable"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | Since covid I've tended to choose business class to ensure my wife and I can avoid sitting close to strangers and travel in our own bubble. That's why I chose Icelandair Saga class. We were booked on a B757 with a 2x2 configuration and checked in with seats 4D and 4F (window and aisle). But at the last moment the aircraft was switched to a B767 with 2x1x2 configuration. 4D became a orphaned middle seat with 4F across the aisle and an unknown stranger in the new window seat 4G. I wouldn't have known except for monitoring the inbound aircraft on Flight Radar 24. We protested at the gate and the agent told us no F and Gs were available, despite this flight's having been booked as a B757. Eventually she gave in and moved us, though only by shunting some other miserable passenger out of 4G that she hoped would make less fuss. Icelandair promote "free seat selection" as a reason for choosing Saga class, yet their unreliability as to which aircraft they're using turns it into a lottery. Apart from this bad start, we found the seats comfortable, but ours was a relatively short flight (KEF-LHR). Transatlantic passengers need to be aware of what they're getting: a wide reclining seat similar to short-haul domestic first class in the USA, but certainly no sleeper. The IFE is varied but the screens are annoyingly unresponsive. Very nice headphones, though.

"changed my seat request"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I chose aisle and window seats for all of the legs of our round trip flight on Icelandair. I upgraded to more leg room for the flight to Iceland so I would be relaxed and have a good rest on the way to begin my vacation. Icelandair changed my seat request to a window and middle seat, sighting a need for this due to aircraft needs. They also said that they had the authority to do this for people who choose extra leg room. I had been so careful to plan the perfect scenario to start my vacation by going at night and getting a good seat where sleep was possible. Instead I was upright in a middle seat, unable to relax or sleep. I have contacted all customer service avenues and they quote the policy allowing them to do so with no real attention to how this happened and really, even why. I just want the next person to not be surprised and upset going into a long flight,

"an excruciating experience"

(Norway)

Not Verified | Easily the worst experience flying between Norway and Canada. The seats are grouped too close. When the person ahead of you leans the seat back, the table can't be folded down for adults. Crew had to walk around unsuccessfully telling people not to lean back. This combined with hardly any padding in the seats made for an excruciating experience. This is most definitely not worth the recent price hike on tickets which makes for almost no difference between more premium rated airlines.

"Paid extra about US$45"

(United States)

Not Verified | Seat 17E - Exit Row - Paid extra about US$45. Worth the extra legroom. Tray table built into the chair arm. Entertainment center screen is big enough to handle the extra space. Seat padding a bit thin for a 6.5 hour flight. Ample blankets and pillow supplied.

"big fat zero for comfort"

(United States)

Not Verified | Worst seats ever. We are still sore from sitting on these planes for 8 hours. On the return we stuffed pillows underneath us, which helped a bit. I'd say it was almost like sitting on a wooden bench, just awful. If we ever fly Icelandair again we will be sure to get aisle seats, so we can get up every hour or so. The legroom and width is fine, everything else is fine, but the seat gets a big fat zero for comfort.

"aircraft the most uncomfortable"

(United States)

Unverified | We normally book with IcelandAir for flights to Europe from Boston, primarily because there is an extra inch of legroom in economy than what you get on most carriers. It also gives a midway break at Keflavik and an option to spend a few days in Iceland at no additional cost for the flights. (We have done that 3 times). Another advantage is that you enter passport control into Europe in Iceland which saves time when you arrive at your final destination. Our only experience where this did not apply was for a flight to London where we had to go through passport control again. On this last trip from Boston to Stockholm, the first leg was on a recently acquired, used Boeing 767 that had also been recently refurbished. The seats that they put into the aircraft are the most uncomfortable we have ever encountered. The second leg was on a 757 and the seats were a bit more comfortable With added traffic, Keflavik is grossly undersized for the number of people in there at any one time. It is so crowded that you can barely move and there is virtually no seating at the gates. Air travel in general is a miserable experience. Although IcelandAir is not wonderful, it beats recent experiences with United, American, Delta and Copa. Someday I may upgrade to business class to check it out, but then, when booking I ask myself if I'm willing to pay about double for that experience.

"most uncomfortable business class seat"

(United States)

Verified Review | Saga business class. Absolutely the smallest and most uncomfortable business class seat I have ever sat in. There is virtually no recline of the seats which is good because the seat in front of you is literally in your lap. On top of this the seats are hard as a rock. It is like sitting on wood. There is virtually no storage. It is a tiny seat pocket. The entertainment system, while having a nice large screen has no more than 20 movies most of which are ancient. There is really no excuse for such poor quality of entertainment with a ticket that costs over $2000 USD. This was worse than the days of business class 737 flights on transcontinental flights. Food was good. Service was adequate. Aircraft was clean.

"uncomfortable on a 6 hour flight"

(Canada)

Icelandair Boeing 757-200 seat was not the worst I've had. But here's an honest take: I'm 5'1". The middle seats have something under them, probably safety related, but it means you have no place to put items under the seat in front of you and can only sort of stretch your legs by putting one foot on each side of the box. My husband is 5'9" and it was very uncomfortable on a 6 hour flight. I managed better. Beware if you have long legs - I did appreciate that there was enough width that we didn't have to sit half on top of each other. The leg room was tight and really you couldn't get up from an inside seat with out the rest of the row having to get up too. Loved the inflight entertainment set up! USB chargers, good variety of free movies and TV, nice music selection, standard earphone jacks so you can use your own. It was very distracting and made the flight go by nicely.
