I was quite surprised at just how bad the seating was aboard our Air France 747. I consider
myself to be of average build and height and fairly fit, yet squeezing into the seat was
incredibly difficult. There was approximately one inch of space between my knees and the seat
in front, far less than the majority of short-haul flights I make. Extricating myself from
the seat to get to the bathroom involved disturbing the two people sat next to me, who were
forced to get out of their seat and pile into the galley area because I wanted to leave. After
the problems I faced when I first attempt to get out of my seat I gave in and remained
stationary for the remainder of the flight. I dread to think how unpleasant the flight would
have been if I was over 6 feet or weighed more than average. I have since recommended that all
of my friends and colleagues avoid Air France at all costs.
