If so, can you tell me the easiest way to do it whilst avoiding Moscow. I've heard some horror stories about Moscow airport and would like to avoid it if possible.

I have never done it, but I have worked in Azerbaijan, and know that Turkish Airlines are usually fairly reliable out of Baku. Get a flight to Istanbul, then look at the best connection with Turkish to either Delhi or Mumbai. Thereafter a low-cost carrier to Goa (Jet is reckoned to be the best).

You can fly Austrian through Vienna - with one other connection in Bombay. Iran Air through Tehran, and Kiev - but each of these are at least 2 connections.

If I were you, I would fly Azerbaijan Airlines BAKU-DELHI and then with Air Sahara or Indian Airlines from Delhi to Goa.

Azerbaijan Airlines does not fly to India. Your best bet is to head West to Istanbul and take the nonstop to Mumbai and connect to Goa via a plethora of domestic cariers, including Jet, Sahara, IndiGo, Indian, Spice Jet, etc.
