Has anyone used Thai Airways Premium Economy from either JFK or LAX to BKK? Looks good and the price seems right.

THAI Premium Economy is one of the better premium classes in the skys. 42 inches of legroom is
better than Singapore Airlines (37") on similar ultra long haul flights between Asia and the United
States. Highly recomended. They've got IFE on demand too!

If you check in early enough you can upgrade to Business Class from Premium Economy, for a fee,
not sure how much it is these days but the fee is cheaper from Bangkok to the states. However they
do allow upgrades from the US to Bangkok, just not sure of price. I suggest when you book your
flight search for the flight with the most open seats in Business Class so your chances for an
upgrade are better. But if you don't want to spend the money either way, P.E. is fantastic on Thai
with these long-haul flights.

THAI Premium Economy is really excellent.I wish they would offer it on more routes (e.g.from
Europe). I fly to Bangkok about 12 times a year from the US, sometimes via Europe and sometimes on
the transpacific route. The first time I took THAI's nonstop flight I was really a bit hesitant how one could manage 18
hours in the air-but it was superb in Premium Economy. I felt more rested than on the previous
flights stopping in NRT or HKG. The seats on THAI are very comfortable and sleeping in them comes
easy. The service of the THAI crew is marvelous. They have a very good AVOD system should you want to
watch a few movies. The fares for Premium Economy are only a bit higher than Coach- but more than
worth it. So now whenever possible, I choose THAI's nonstop US service, which by the way operates
daily now from both LAX and JFK.

When the Thai Airways JFK to Bangkok economy class seat is so comfortable, why do want to pay extra
to get into Premium Economy(PE). Note that the economy class seats are quite comfortable and have an
amazing 36" inch seat pitch (in comparison British Airways economy has only a 31" seat pitch).
Besides, the PE section is right beside the aircraft wing so if you are looking for a good look out
of the window seat you can rule that out! Also the meals in PE and economy are identical (only in
the former it is served in a better container).
I too debated whether I should go with economy or PE and choose economy. I was pleased with my
decision. Even the Thai Airways purser, who I had a discussion with on this topic (economy vs PE) on
board the aircraft, wondered why people would pay extra for what is only a marginally better
product. Thai Airways has the best economy class product in the world (on JFK to BKK, and LAX to BKK routes
on their long range Airbus A340-500 aircraft). In my opinion, PE makes sense only when economy class
is not such a great product.

PE is great on Thai as they seats are also wider. This is a big help if you are husky and do not
wish to be squeezed in for 18 hours and do not want to spend thousands more for business.

And if you want the ultimate of comfort, try TG Royal Silk Class from JFK to BKK. Some websites
indicate that the difference from P.E to Royal Silk is not that much.
