Transit in CKS Airport, Taiwan. Any comments or things to do in the airport? I'm catching my
connecting flight to Honolulu, Hawaii with China Airlines. Will have an 18-hr layover at CKS Airport.

There is a transit hotel that is reasonably cheap within the terminals . It is run by
Evergreen hotels, I would suggest checking in there for a few hours at least as there is not much
else to do there and nothing in the close vicinity. The drive into Taipei is around an hour.

Not the most inspiring airport to spend any time. Surroundings mostly industrial in nature. Would
suggest taking the 1 hour plus ride into the city and staying there. Or the Kuva Hotel in Taoyuan -
30 mins from the airport and relax until your onward flight - very acceptable family run hotel with
all amenities and fantastic service.

I flew to LAX and had a 12 hr layover. The airport is great but since your layover is so long,
you could take a room at the Touyon Hotel (if its not included in your fare; it costs around 40
dollars). Alternatively, you could go for a half day tour of Taipei city which the airline offers
for free. For that, you will need to check the airline website regarding transit procedures etc.

Since you're layover is that long, you should take the free tour of the city. I don't think you'll
find much on the China Airlines website, so it's best that you ask at the transit desk as that's
where it's normally advertized. The transit hotel at T2 isn't bad. It's quite cheap but the facilities are very basic.

Was in Taipei Intrenational Airport in Dec 06. Taipei is in the process of providing a train service
from the airport to the city. Not sure if it is ready now.
Not much to do at the airport. There is a book store, a play area for children with good amendities
(baby wipes, hot water etc) provided. Not many shops to browse. Its a total ripped off compared to
HK and Sin duty free. Consider a day trip to the city. Its worthwhile the trip.

The airport itself is not bad, but there is not that much to do. If you need to catch a few winks,
be careful of the airport hotel ... inexpensive but the beds were the hardest things I had ever
slept on! I do suggest you take a taxi into downtown Taipei if you have a chance but make sure
you give yourself plenty of time to get back to CKS, because traffic can be brutal.

Stay away from the transit hotel if you want to get some sleep. If you are unlucky enough to have a
noisy group in the neighbouring room, sleep is the last thing you will get as the walls in the hotel
have little to no sound-proofing. It is also a little over-priced for what you (don't) get. The Four
Points (by Sheraton) hotel is about 30min by taxi on the way into Taipei. They are not too expensive
and have reasonable rooms and facilities. You can also enjoy some local restaurants located near the
hotel. Not that much to do there but a nice enough place to stay for a night.

Eighteen hours is a very long time indeed. The new terminal (Terminal 2) is nice enough for an hour
or two but Terminal 1 is one of the worst facilities I have ever seen. The restaurant section in the
lower basement is simply appalling and not befitting a country like Taipei. Choose a hotel downtown
and take an airport bus (45 minutes to an hour and between 130 and 160 Taiwanese dollars each way -
approx. TWD$30 to one USD.) Go to 101 and enjoy Taipei

Suggest you go into Taipei. The airport bus is an option, but beware the unmetered taxi touts when
you arrive in Taipei. A taxi will be about NT$1350-1500. If you're in the afternoon, you could while
away a few hours on the balcony at Carnegies with decent food and wireless internet. You could ask
the staff there what you could do for the day. In the evening it turns into a full-on nightclub, by
the way. No idea what your preferences are for evening entertainment. I recommend either the Grand
Hotel for a bit of ambience if you've only got a night, or the Far Eastern on An He Lu for a decent
hotel. The Landis is good too. None of them are cheap. There is nothing whatsoever to do at the
airport or in Taoyuan. About 45 mins into town, up to an hour at most.

Considering the Taoyuan high speed rail station is only ten minutes away by taxi, it'd be a pity to
spend your time hanging around the airport. (www.thsrc.com.tw)
