Travelling on Maxjet from Washington Dulles home to Stansted next year. We will have travelled up
to Dulles from Florida. Can anyone give advice on how long we will need, in order to collect bags from our US domestic
flight and then check-in for our international flight. Is the process difficult?

Entering the US is a pain and one should plan at least 2 hours between flights; the immigration
queue can easily take one hour. On the way out one hour between flights is enough if you're checked
through (got your boarding pass for the Dulles-Stansted flight in Florida), your luggage should be
checked through too. I have no experience with checking in at Dulles, but United recommends 2 hours before departure (at
the check in desk) Add 30 minutes to get there from deplaning.

I would travel the day before and do some sightseeing in the Washington D.C. area. If your
flight is late and you miss your Maxjet connection Maxjet and the airline that you will fly is not
responsible for rebooking you at no cost. I used to work for an airline 10 years ago and I have
seen that happen before. If you don't want to do that I would take the first flight out from Florida and then take a bus to
the Air and Space Museum at Dulles. You can see the Space Shuttle and the Concorde. You will have
a buffer just in case your flight is late.

This applies to all airlines/connections - IF YOUR TICKET IS NOT THORUGH, ie - arrival connnecting
flight not on the same international ticket as MAXJET the onward carrier is not liable for any
missed connections etc. So would allow at least three hours for connections at Dulles in each direction.

If you're coming from a domestic flight transferring to an international flight, then the procedure
is not as cumbersome. Reason: there is no passport control as such. The gate agent will remove the
visa waiver stub from your passport. So no messy lines, fingerprints etc. on your way out of the
USA. As for transfer time - probably three hours should be sufficient. However, if you can spare the
time, go sightseeing!
