Zoom Airlines review by D Hoyle
17 July 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
I flew to Toronto via Glasgow from Manchester. There was no drink of any
kind for three hours and a meal was provided after 4. I realise that
they needed to pick up passengers in Glasgow but a drink of water or
orange juice would have been welcome at the start. The return journey
was fine. On both occasions staff were friendly and polite and the seats
reasonably comfortable. They are not in the Emirates or Singapore
Airline league but not bad for the price.

Manchester-Toronto return. The flights were excellent. Booked the extra
leg-room both ways which in my opinion is well worth the money. The
service, food and entertainment were very good. I first used Zoom in
2004 and found it still had the very high standards as then.

Toronto to Cardiff via Belfast. Equally as good as outward trip, same
cabin director. Flight on time, clean, regular drinks, good food for
a budget airline including vegetarian for my wife, 3 films fairly new (The Queen). Cabin crew and
flight crew attetive and informative.

27 June 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
A great discount airline, I have flown with them about 6 times between
Toronto and London Gatwick. The staff are friendly and helpful, meals
are average, but I don't really expect more from an airline. The check-
in in London always took a long time but now they have finally organized
it properly and there is only normal wait times. I would recommend them
to anyone who want to fly, but not waste money.

We flew Zoom for the first time, Halifax to London, Premier Economy. It
was a very good experience. The seats and extra leg room was such a
treat. Cabin crew were friendly and helpful. Having beverage service
several times throughout the journey was appreciated. The plane was
clean and we had three movies, not just one! For a no frills airline, we
feel that we got better service, as well as more service and comfort
than the larger airline companies that charge more. We recommend Zoom
and certainly would fly with you again.

11 June 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Flew to Paris CDG from Vancouver and had a pleasant experience with Zoom Airlines. Initially, after
reading horror stories of Zoom's delays and poor after sales service, we expected the worst but were
met with great service and value instead. The segment from YVR to CDG arrived 30 minutes earlier
than scheduled; flight crew were young and friendly, check-in was swift, and food was adequate. Seat
pitch was about 31-32 inches and provided enough legroom for even a six footer. Flights disembarked
at Terminal 3 at CDG, which was quite a far ways away from the RER line - not Zoom's fault though.
Interior was clean with gently worn leather seats and older tv monitors. Being a charter, you have
to purchase your own headsets. Blankets were not automatic but were available by request
Return flight from CDG to YVR was delayed by one hour - not a big deal. The commanding officer was
nice enough to apologize for the inconvenience and kept passengers updated with mechanical issues.
Once on our way, the cabin crew compensated the passengers by offering free wine on the house. Once
again, young and friendly crew, decent food, and lots of water offered throughout the flight. Bags
arrived without a glitch. Would definitely recommend Zoom for budget travellers.

Cardiff to Toronto Premium Economy. Check in immediate, boarding very
fast. Crew great and the service throughout the flight impeccable, loos
busy but kept clean throughout. Three movies, 2 middle of the road one
rather violent for a family audiance. Beware security do not count a
very small leather knapsack as a handbag and we had to repack this into
our carry on bags. Zoom website gives different information. Would fly
Zoom again anytime.

My husband and I travelled to Vancouver from Gatwick return. We
travelled premium class and both flights took off on time (although when
I first booked this flight it was direct to Vancouver but was changed to
go via Belfast so journey took much longer). Check in for both flights
was very quick. Inflight service very good both ways. Cabin staff
friendly and gave good service. Plane clean and toilets kept clean. It
was the first time we had booked online so a new experience. We would
recommend Zoom airlines and fly with them again.

My wife and I travelled to Gatwick on April 25 and return on May 11 Premium class. Check in for both
flights was very quick - maybe 6 or 7 minutes. Both flights left on time and arrived early. Inflight service very good both ways and food was much better than most we have had on the big
carriers. Cabin staff very friendly and gave good service. Plane clean and toilets were kept
clean. This was our first experience with Zoom and we would recommend them and fly with them again.

13 May 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Just had a very good flight Glasgow to Calgary and back. Annoyed before
flights as prices dropped straight after I booked quite a lot but the
actual flights were fine. Staff very happy and helpful, food ok (not
haute cuisine but edible), lots of drinks including a second round of
tea/wine so very pleased. Check-in very efficient at both airports.
Plane took off early on outward journey and was only slightly late on
inward, toilets clean and plenty of space. Aircraft not the newest but
more than adequate, could probably benefit from a spring clean but that
is being very picky. Would happily book again, but would wait for sale
as do not want to be caught out again.

20 April 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
I arrived back from Canada yesterday on Zoom airlines and experienced
good service. Check in excellent both ways. Staff friendly and helpful.
TV screens are a bit hard to see from some seats but if you pre book
seats you can choose a row where the screens are best visible (Row 11).
The negative I came across was the flight changes after booking but I
was given the opportunity to cancel when the day was changed, and the
time change was only a couple of hours so it was no great hardship.

4 April 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Have flown Zoom on and off since 2004 and their service has deteriorated
markedly since. When booking with any discount airline like Zoom I am
finding more and more that the potential for hassle is just too great.
Example: early bookings never seem to make a difference because the
airline can suddenly change dep/arr times; tickets are now nearly
impossible to change; service is like Russian roulette; etc. I made my
most recent booking for Zoom in January 2007, and since they have
changed their ticket prices for that flight to lower than what I paid,
and they changed the dep time. All things considered I would rather pay
the extra £100 for a regular reliable airline then chance things with
the likes of Zoom again.

4 April 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Gatwick-Vancouver. Outbound aircraft was spotless, cabin crew friendly.
Food quality was average, free soft drinks suited me just fine.
Inbound, cabin crew friendly, food quality was better. I was also able
to re-use the headset I purchased outbound for the flight home. Both
ways I travelled in standard economy after booking about 6 weeks in
advance, I saved in the region of £300.00 off BA and AC, and I chose not
to travel on Transat/Canadian Affair. It was value for money, near
enough on time, hassle free, and enjoyable. I would recommend Zoom to
anyone that wants a cheap price, but doesnt want to be treated like
cattle.
Zoom Airlines review by John Hall
4 April 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Have travelled with them twice recently between Gatwick and Toronto due
to family issues in Windsor near Toronto. Both have been quick trips
at short notice and the Zoom prices were way below Air Canada, Air
Transat or BA for the journey I needed to make.
Service has been fine, 767 aircraft clean and comfortable and crews have
been very friendly (probably better than Air Canada from past experience
and streets ahead of Air Transat). Food could be better though but this
seems to be a common issue with Canadian carriers - Transat's is awful.
Flights have all left within an hour of the scheduled time. My
bookings were both made in the week or two before the flight and so they
probably had no opportunity to change the flight times! On balance,
I've nothing bad to say about Zoom - they seem to provide a reasonable
service at a good price. Although I'm hoping not to have to make the
trip again so soon, I'm content to use Zoom again if I needed to travel
to Canada.

29 March 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Recently flew Glasgow - Vancouver : service on the way out was very
poor. It is a dog-leg flight via Manchester on the way there, and there
was no service at all in economy for the first 3 hours. Many people had
not accounted for this (Zoom advertise as having a scheduled flight
level of service) and were quite thirsty by the time the trolley came
around. The meal was extremely poor quality, probably the worst I have
ever had on any long haul scheduled or charter flight. Fortunately I had
brought sufficient water and food to see us through the 12 hour flight.
Others went hungry. Seats were OK, 31" , old style. No in seat
entertainment, you had to view on old style screens, not all visible and
purchase headphones £3. We were a large group, some of whom had paid
more for premium seats, and supposedly better service. These people
complained bitterly about the level of service. Food on the return was
slightly better, but there was a delay due to mechanical problems with
the plane. Loos were not kept clean. I guess that we would not have felt
the service was so poor if it were not for the fact that Zoom advertise
as having a better level of service than a charter flight. This is
certainly not the case. I have complained to Zoom with no response. So
no surprise there either.

Manchester - Toronto - Manchester in Economy.
Be careful if you plan to fly with Zoom based on your experience of previous flights in their
aircraft. They are now subcontracting flights to another carrier, Flyglobespan. You'll book
through Zoom but you'll find a reference to Flyglobespan if you check the booking details carefully.
The outbound flight was delayed well over 5 hours because of a problem with the Zoom aircraft.
Inflight service was average for Economy. The return journey was a bad experience all round. Again the flight was delayed by several hours
because of a technical problem with the incoming Zoom aircraft. It was extremely difficult to find
the check-in desk at Toronto. The Zoom desk was deserted. When I approached two check-in staff
sitting at an unmarked desk and asked if they were for the Zoom flight to Manchester they said No
and offered no help or suggestions. As I was about to turn away I asked, on the off chance, if they
were connected with Flyglobespan, they said Yes that's us. What is wrong with these people do they
not understand that passengers keep them in a job??? Many of the other passengers also could not
find the desk and were left to wander around unassisted. Flyglobespan's plane was grubby and unacceptably tight on legroom, and the service was poor (one
example being that there were no pillows or blankets in Economy). My son travelled the same 420 and 421 flights (but on 20 December 2006 and 29 December 2006) and had
exactly the same problems, except in his case the 5-6 hour return flight delay was because the pilot
was "indisposed" - whatever that means. We won't be flying with Zoom or Flyglobespan again, at any price.

We booked flights with Zoom last year for travel to Toronto in May (2007). The outbound flight was
changed in January. Then in March they changed the outbound flight from 1700 on the Saturday to
1000 on the Sunday losing us nearly a whole day of our holiday. When we complained they were very
unhelpful and referred us to the "Small print" which has every get out clause you can imagine.
NEedless to say we will not be booking with Zoom in the future.

20 March 2007
We have yet to fly with Zoom but already are less then impressed with
the airline. We booked flights from Toronto to Gatwick (non stop and
direct), with upgraded seating and also booked the actual seat locations
(windows). After receiving electronic confirmation we assumed that
things were settled, even though we read the small print ( we assumed
this was to cover exceptional circumstances only). Well two weeks later
we received notification that the flight was now stopping in Halifax and
would be leaving two hours earlier, also that our seats had now been
changed. 2 weeks after that we were told that the return flight would be
leaving a day later and now was stopping in Cardiff and also that our
seats were changed to non-window seats. When we phoned to complain we
were told that the "small" print applied. Apart from the fact that we
are still flying in a plane and that the departure/arrival cities are
the same, everything else had been altered.

We flew Zoom premium economy Vancouver to Gatwick return. Definitely
worth paying the extra for a reasonable baggage allowance, decent leg
room, seat selection and separate check in. No complaints with the
outbound flight. The check in, in particular, was excellent. When
there was more than a couple of people in the premium check in queue,
they were directed to the front of the regular economy line. Food was
adequate. Staff willing, although inexperienced. Check ins returning
from Gatwick (handled by a service company I think), were lousy. 30
minutes to handle two or three people. I waited an hour and that was in
the premium check in line! Food mediocre at best. The bottom was torn
from one suitcase. It's no bargain if you have to repair/replace
luggage.

26 February 2007
Have used Zoom premium economy for three round trips to the U.K. All
left Canada on time, but none returned on schedule. Zoom premium product
is better than regular economy on legacy carriers, but Zooms reliability
is poor. I was at Manchester yesterday waiting for my seven hour late
Zoom flight to arrive from Glasgow, when their flight from Toronto
arrived. This was also seven and a half hours late. Both evidently
delayed for "technical reasons". I would recommend any potential
customer carefully review Zoom's arrival and departure information on
their website before deciding to use this carrier. If your schedule will
allow being many hours late, then the product is good. If not, book
somebody else. In view of my experience of their poor record of
punctuality I am afraid I will have to forgo the pleasant crews with
comfortable aircraft and use one of the old-established airlines in
future.

13 February 2007
Be aware that this is a small airline. My flight was delayed 4 times
finally leaving 23 hours late due to a mechanical problem on a flight
coming from Florida. I guess this just had a domino effect ! Also, after
sitting in the departure lounge for 2 hours it was not discovered until
everyone was on board that one passenger with oxygen did not have the
correct paperwork from his Dr. We then had to wait while he and his
baggage were removed from the plane! Fortunately the return flight was
good. The food was the best I have ever tasted in 24 years of flying to
and from England but when did we start paying for soft drinks again ?
This was my first and last flight with Zoom Airlines.

They are not the cheapest. Last time I found the seating uncomfortable
for a six footer. They insisted on full payment on booking (seven months
in advance) and wanted extra for seating two people together, who were
booking together in one transaction - this is seven months in advance.
Pay extra for two seats together when obviously you have two seats and
more available together. It was at that point that I said forget it.
Don't forget their miserly baggage allowance because if you do, it will
be yet another extra cost of flying with Zoom.

9 January 2007
My experience was not good, having left on a Manchester to Vancouver
flight (which - like other comments I've noted on this site) ended up
going via Glasgow. This was not made clear on the original website
booking detail. Had the flight not been via Glasgow, I would have made
it to Vancouver! As it was, the landing in Glasgow was so appalling,
with an aircraft half-empty of passengers and luggage and in (what we
only later discovered) gale-force winds and an emergency weather alert
in Glasgow! I am a nervous passenger to start with, and was totally
unable to stay on the flight beyond Glasgow, where we did eventually
manage to land, with lots of shredded nerves amongst the passengers and
tears from me! The cabin staff could not have been more sympathetic and
helpful, particularly as I was disrupting the flight schedule by having
to have my luggage removed from the hold. The same could not be said of
the cockpit crew, and this is the main point of this comment. Not once,
either in the terrible descent, nor once safely on the ground, did the
Captain or First Officer communicate with the passengers - either to
explain why the landing was so bad, or to apologise for the discomfort.
It was astonishing and would certainly stop me ever flying with Zoom
again. It cost me my entire plane fare, plus £80 to get back home on the
train from Glasgow, but it was worth it to get off the plane!

Gatwick-Vancouver. Fine on board, plenty of leg room in eceonomy, plane
spotless, leather seats, plenty of pillows and blankets. Food fine, crew
nice and more than helpful - drinks , snacks and duty free sales went
ahead and a snack was served about an hour before landing. Vancouver to
Gatwick : meal, beverage and duty free were fine, pillows and blankets
and pleasant crew. Overhead lights on left and right aisles not working
and the plane was not as spotless as it could have been probably due to
the quick turn around but again a good all round economy flight.

This was our sixth flight on Zoom- Toronto to Glasgow and return this
week. We have, in the past been very satisfied with the airline and
found the staff young and cheerful and flights enjoyable. Both flights
this time, however were disappointing. The service on board was surly
and disappointing. This used to be a strong point for Zoom-sarcasm and
snippy flight attendants flooded the cabin on both flights. There were a
couple of encounters with passengers that made us cringe. The food
service was also terrible. No choice what so ever with a terrible excuse
for chicken on both flights. Our children were given one small sausage
and some brussel sprouts for their children's meal! On our returning
flight there was no soap in our two immediate bathrooms- not too wise in
an era of flus and viruses. On one bright note the flights did leave on
time and were smooth in the air. Used to think they were the better
direct route to Glasgow (compared to Air Canada). Will rethink next time
and use my airmiles.

Quite disapointed with the product from this airline, experienced on
return MAN-YVR (economy class). Beware that although they are quite
often the cheapest available, you are very much getting what you pay
for. Firstly, the baggage allowance is stupid - 20kg is simply not
enough for a long haul trip - you get the same with most budget carriers
in Europe. I managed to pack quite economically and was only just over
the limit flying out (it was not mentioned by the check in desk at
Manchester). Coming back I was 6 kg over and had to pay the extortionate
CAD$60 to be allowed to put my bag on. As noted below, the food is quite
frankly awful - just dry pasta with a couple of halves of cherry tomato
- not enough to sustain you for the full 10 hours. Couple this with the
dreadful food options at YVR International Terminal means that you have
to buy overpriced Doritos from the crew. Bring your own food if you can.
Check in lines at YVR are a nightmare - despite arriving over 3 hours
ahead of flight time, I was queing for nearly 1 hour to check in - how
on earth the latecommers got through I will never know - most of the
wait seemed to stem from the fact that pretty much every pax was having
to pay for excess baggage and the card machines were not working
properly - clearly, fleecing pax of their money is more important than
good customer service. They are not necessarily the cheapest anyway. I
booked my flights far in advance when they were the cheapest option by a
good £200- a travelling companion booked a flight with Air Canada much
later and got them for the same price (with of course the added bonus of
greater baggage allowance, more efficient check-in, and superior IFE).
On the plus side, the cabin crew were friendly and efficient and the
flights were punctual. Overall, I'd not bother with Zoom again.

Vancouver - Manchester. Third trip with this airline and I am happy with
their product. Check in at Vancouver was poor. Due to their
incompetence I travelled with a boarding pass which had another pax
name. I neglected to check it and managed to get through 2 security
checks prior to boarding. No surprise that my luggage went on to
Glasgow. I can only assume that some other unlucky pax had my name and
their bag was offloaded in Manchester. This oversight is astounding in
todays security conscious times. My luggage arrived a week later. This
is a shame as the inflight experience was good. The IFE did not work in
the zone I was seated but this was handled very well by the crew.
This will not stop me flying with this airline again.

10 December 2006
Zoom use to be a good airline. We have been loyal customers from day
one and have seen a steady decline of services. We used their Calgary
to Manchester service. On long haul flights, it appears they no longer
serve meat of any kind. We received dry pasta with a few tomatoes - I
could not eat it, and I'm not fussy! The last couple of flights with
them, the inflight entertainment did not work - the sound was broken,
and the flight attendants did not care. Legroom in economy seats very
uncomfortable. Upgrade to "normal" class, for a standard amount of leg
room, but they charge you for this! Beware too, we booked a direct
flight with them (even though they were more than their competitors such
as Canadian Affair and Air Transat), and they changed the flight very
close to the departure time to an in-direct flight via Glasgow. I think
this was a bit of foul play as they mis-sold their product. Beware again
- they change their flight times close to departure, so if you have any
connecting flights, or you miss you flight as a result, it's tough!
If you have a problem, there is no contact with Zoom apart from email.
They take 21 days to get back to you (stated in their automatic email),
often they don't get back to you, then they copy and paste their
standard templates in a letter to you not addressing your complaint -
they have a lot of small print which they throw at you so beware!

13 November 2006
Calgary-London Gatwick 8/11/06. On a day when just about every flight on the departure board was
delayed due to snow, my flight was shown as being on time. That is until almost the booked departure
time, when there was still no sign of the aircraft (we were told it had only taken off from
Vancouver 30 minutes previously), and an estimated delay of half an hour was posted. We were told
that 'nothing significant in the way of delay was expected', but despite this, we were around an
hour and 40 minutes late taking off. The delay was, of course not the fault of the airline, and an
hour and 40 minutes on a long haul flight is not the end of the world. However, I would have
appreciated being kept informed. Given that the bulk of the delay had occurred due to the plane
having to be de-iced at Calgary a few hours earlier on its way to Vancouver, they must have known
that a delay was certain, and if they'd told us about this, I could have had an extra hour or so in
the bar instead of sitting fruitlessly at the gate. The flight itself was fine. I broke with my
usual tradition and paid an extra CAN$60 for a seat with extra leg room at the time of booking,
which seemed like (and was) reasonable value. The normal seats didn't appear to offer a great deal
of leg room, but neither did they look excessively cramped. The food was nothing to get wildly
excited about, but perfectly edible, and way better than that served on my outward flight from
Manchester to Toronto with Thomas Cook. Unlike on Thomas Cook, I was even served complimentary wine
with my meal, although at other times drinks (other than soft drinks) have to be paid for. The staff
were exceptionally pleasant, helpful and considerate. The fare I paid was roughly the same as my
wife was quoted for a flight the following day from Calgary to Toronto with Air Canada, and even
with the extra leg room seat I paid less than half the fare that Air Canada quoted me for a one way
from Calgary to London! Apart from not being kept adequately informed about the delay, as a cost-
conscious passenger I was very happy with the overall experience, and if the heavy loading on my
flight was anything to go by, (which was in spite of the fact this was the lowest of the low
season), Zoom are onto a winner.

My wife and i have just returned from a memorable 10 days in Canada. We booked way back in February,
on line, After reading some of the comments about the airline we had mixed feelings about what we
should expect. But once under way all those fears were soon quelled. The flight staff are
courteous, diligent, polite, a credit to Zoom, and that takes into consideration both ways.
Aircraft spotlessly clean and the 8hr flight was pleasure, we did actually go Premier
class, and the extra cost was worth it for the extra leg room. I cannot praise
Zoom enough, Oh and most important, flight times bang on the minute, took off on time, landed
exactly on time, and arrived back 20 minutes early, very impressive.

Glasgow to Halifax last week with our year old daughter - we had extra
legroom seats on the way out and they were well worth the price. She
could play on the floor and had plenty of space to nap. The crew were
also exCeptional in helping us with food and settling her. On the way
back I felt the crew were a bit more gruff. However this was not
illustrative of all crew - only some. I think they have a bit of a job
to do on their overall customer skills. I would be quite happy to fly
with them again

Premium economy Gatwick-Ottawa and back in September. Very pleasant
surprise after unimpressive experience with Air Canada and British

polite request to all passengers during meal times to return seats to

I booked Cardiff to Toronto in September 2005 for an August 2006
departure. The flight dates changed twice, forcing me to change our
accommodation arrangements twice. The day before we were due to leave,
they changed the flight time again, delaying the flight by 12 hours. The
plane eventually took off over 13 hours later than planned. The flight
itself was comfortable both ways, especially considering the cost, but
on returning to Cardiff, we discovered that 2 out of the 3 suitcases we
left Toronto with didn’t arrive in Cardiff with us. Six weeks on, and
paying premium rate phone charges to leave messages on answering
machines that are never returned, the cases have not been found. On the
rare occasion that we actually talk to someone, we are told very little
to reassure us that they are even trying to find them. At one point they
told us that our luggage had been found, following it up 2 days later
with an e mail telling us that the bags were permanently lost! We won’t
be using them again and would rather pay the extra money than put up
with the diabolical customer service Zoom offers. If you do decide to
use them, keep your fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong, because
you'll be very disappointed with the support that they give.

Booked Premium seats both ways, well worth the extra. Latest movies both

Excellent and the food was a big improvement on last summer when I flew

faulted, they have not sacrificed service for low cost, while Canadian
domestic carriers have no service and are not low cost.

Gatwick/Calgary return. Delighted, with the aircraft, seat pitch,
comfort, food, (was especially good on the return journey). First class
caring and attentive staff. Booking in for the flight at Gatwick and
Calgary was efficent and smooth. On other airlines we have always had
good and friendly communication from the cockpit. This could be
improved. The only drawback was the time of the flight from Gatwick
6.am. However for a good airline with good service it is worth being a
bit tired( to say the least) at the end of the trip. Good flight both
ways with superb gentle landings. No wonder the passengers cheered and
clapped on landing at Calgary. Well done Zoom keep up the good work, 7

fault, not theirs. I'd absolutely fly them again, no problem.

I'm not sure what people expect when paying so little on flight, I
myself just came back from Zoom from Glasgow to Vancouver September 13.
The cabin crew were very friendly and efficient, food was decent,
although I bring my own that way I cannot really complaint, the only
thing is that we should be allowed liquids on board. We could not take
any on both going and coming back. Flight on time a bit early by 20
minutes, luggage was delivered as well, overall I will fly with them
again and will refer them to friends. Just expect less on cheap flight
and you might be surprised.

Glasgow to Toronto return. Average! Prices good, service average, food
poor. Outbound flight the crew did their job with no smiles, limited
interaction and a little curt when speaking to slower elderly
passengers. Return flight, check staff in Toronto were good, constant
stream of passengers being sent to the cashier for excess baggage
charges, we were among them for $70 but for some reason they decided to
waive ours which was a nice gesture but kept charging people behind us.
3 good recent films on outbound and two on return. Snack service very
overpriced $3.70 for a king size bounty bar (only one piece bigger than
a normal bounty bar). About one hour in the air on the return flight
the passenger next to my wife took ill and two of the FA's took over and
looked after her extremely well and stayed with her for about an hour
till she recovered. Top marks for that. The return crew were much more
pleasant but the food was very poor, the flight was overly warm from
take off till landing, leg room standard but seats seemed narrower than
usual. No liquids were allowed on the flight but no water was offered at
anytime and when asking for some it was treated with a sigh. All in all
you get what you pay for but a smile costs nothing. At less than half
the price of AC or BA and a direct flight from Glasgow it would probably
warrant consideration when booking our next trip to Canada, 6/10 on a
par with Air Transat .

We have just returned from Calgary and thought Zoom were excellent.
Planes were on time going out and back, all flight attendents were
pleasant and helpful, food was okay, four recent films played each way.
Baggage came through quickly and nothing was lost ! We were 6kgs over
the limit for baggage and were not asked to pay any extra, and were not
aware of any other passengers having to pay more either. Paid extra for
the premium economy and we feel it was worth it for the extra legroom.
Seating was comfy enough. Only downfall was the inflight entertainment
screens were at the front of the cabin and if you are short like me you
will not see the screens unless sitting in an aisle seat. We would use
Zoom again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. All round
good flight and service for the money paid.

Toronto to Cardiff. Good flight, on time, very efficient crew. Glasgow to Toront o: Nightmare flight! Very unfriendly, inefficient crew, (in
fact quite rude). Cheap airline - but beware, they make their money and more by charging excess
baggage to almost every passenger. I watched while in line and almost every passenger was sent to
the cashier to pay excess. Baggage allowance very insufficient in light of the new security rules.

I am a frequent flyer to Canada with Zoom and have always been satisfied
with the service although recently I thought that they were getting
quite expensive. This month my husband, 1 yr old daugher and I (six
months pregnant) unfortunately missed our departure to Toronto from
Belfast. We phoned the airline from the side of the road where we were
stranded and we met with a very cold response, they couldn't do anything
for us at all so 'phone your insurance company'. To add insult to injury
we got a phone call from their office a couple of week later, we thought
it was see if we were ok. Instead they wanted to know if they could sell
our return seat! It seems that once they have the money off you they
dont care. To be honest I'll be flying BA or AC in future to get a
better service, we are very disappointed at their heartless handling of
this situation. Unforeseen circumstances can happen but Zoom definitely
did not shine on this occasion.

Toronto to Glasgow return (August 2 - 25). First, Zoom beat the price
for any other airline or charter by >$100 per ticket. For a family with
two 'full-fare age' children that is a substantial savings. Also, since
Air Canada dropped their direct flight the prospect of routing through
London with two small children was more daunting. First (slight)
irritation was when Zoom changed the departure time by delaying it 2
hours to nearly midnight. Admittedly we had plenty of notice and they
sent out e-mails for each reservation. However, flight left on time,
seats (economy) were acceptable, films were recent, food was... well,
airline food (always amazes me that people care what they eat on a 6
hour flight??)... but.... Zoom lost 1 of 4 bags. Fortunately it was one
with the kids clothes but this highlighted a problem... Zoom does NOT
handled their own baggage. Some company called Aviance does... and it
took them 5 days to get us our bag even though we were staying only a 3
hour drive from the airport. In fact, they new within 24 hours that the
bag had been left in Toronto, but they just seemed unable to get it on
another plane (even a Zoom plane). VERY irritating and shows the problem
with a small charter company. Return flight was one-week post the
massive security clampdown on hand luggage but flight left on time and
arrived early... only complaint this time was they ran out of milk on
the flight. Since we weren't being allowed to carry any liquids on board
you might have thought they would have stocked up for those of us with
small children, but we managed to ration out what they had. All in all I
would fly Zoom again, largely for the cost and convenience of a direct
flight, but I would certainly lower my standards and expectations

YUL-LGW-YUL. Delayed 3 hours on the outbound flight. We were sent an
email proposing us to upgrade from economy to premium economy for 40$ /
person. We accepted and it was worth the extra touches and the extra
inches of pitch. On the return flight (LGW-YUL), they had technical
difficulties with the 767 so we were delayed 30 hours. On other flights,
they even chartered some 757s to keep up with the huge delays. No emails
were sent to us and we had to check the status of our flight every few
hours because it kept on changing. They still charged for overweight
luggage even after such a huge delay and the fact we could not bring any
hand luggage on board. Maybe we were unlucky but one thing is sure, Zoom
is very unstable when comes technical difficulties or security problems.

Zoom Airlines Belfast to Vancouver return in August 2006. Outbound
flight delayed 17 hours due to technical fault and increased security
but airline provided ample money for meals and gave us 2 rooms in the
airport hotel at Belfast. Actual flight went well although they had
given 2 of my 5 pre-booked extra legroom seats to other passengers and
tried covering this by saying they would be able to sit my daughter and
her boyfriend together on the plane. I asked twice if the new seats
were definitely extra legroom and was assured that they were. Imagine
my surprise when we boarded the plan and found that the new seats were
not extra legroom and one of our original seats had been given to the
passenger who booked in immediately ahead of us, despite me paying £30
in January to secure this seat! However, I suspect that this was the
fault of Service Air at Belfast rather than Zoom. I have just returned
and will be asking for a refund of the specific seat booking fee. Other
than that, both flights were excellent. The staff were friendly and
helpful the food was okay although the snack served towards the end of
each flight was pretty meagre. In flight movies were recent and decent!
Could do with seatback individual screens rather than the aisle mounted
monitors and widescreen on the bulk head. We upgraded on the return
flight, mainly for the extra baggage allowance and as it was a red eye
flight back to UK it provided a more comfortable seat for sleeping. I
would use Zoom again.

Manchester to Vancouver - delayed 24 hours. Return journey delayed 12
hours although we were put up in decent hotels the inconvenience has put
us off booking with Zoom again. The extra cost incurred whilst delayed
will allow us to book a more reliable service. Food very poor and
upgrading to premier okay but not worth the extra money, 1hour into the
flight before a drink was offered in the light of no drinks allowed
onboard it would have been good to have water available in premier class.

Premium economy YEG/LGW/YVR end of July, returning mid August. Both flights on
schedule, despite the increased security in effect on the date of our return. Both crews
were friendly and professional. They appeared to enjoy their job. Food quite
acceptable and tasty, just a little plain. Plenty of movies and they were very current. Premium
economy worth the extra money and at the time we booked (well in advance), it was cheaper
than economy on Air Canada.

Gatwick to Edmonton (with a stop in Winnipeg) and from Vancouver to
Cardiff (with a stop in Belfast) in August. Both flights left on time
and arrived early and as the latter flight was during the period of
increased security measures, we arrived at the airport with trepidation
(an earlier flight the same week had suffered a long delay as a result)
but we were impressed and relieved. We had three movies each way (all
recent ones too). The return leg was in Premium Economy and was more
than worth the extra money as the legroom really made a difference.
Both sets of crew were friendly, cheerful and happy - we were travelling
with two small children and we were treated very well - the pre-ordered
inflight children's meals duly arrived on both legs of the journey. We
would not hesitate to use Zoom again, the flights cost us almost half of
what they would have with Air Canada and British Airways (who do not
offer a direct flights to Edmonton or Cardiff). Remember, you get what
you pay for and we figure we got a lot for the money.

Flew from Gatwick to Vancouver and back in July/August. Flight on time, aircraft and check-in all
fine, good service in flight. Food, however, was very poor, almost inedible: so much so that we
would consider taking our own food next time. Flew back premium class which was worth the extra for
the additional legroom, me being 6'2". Two years ago we flew the same route with Air Transat, who
offered almost identically good service but better food. So next time it will be Air Transat who win.

Return trip from Gatwick to Toronto in July/August 2006. All went well -
planes on time, food good, service good, prices good, so no complaints.
However in checking their schedules before and after trip I see that a
high number of their flights are delayed for significant periods, often
up to 12/24/36 hours. I don't think I'd risk them again if timing
mattered a lot. My advice would be to use them provided it doesn't
matter too much if you are late.

My husband and I travelled to Toronto from Cardiff. Premium Economy and
the plane, seating, crew and service could not be faulted. We left and
arrived on time. On our return, scheduled Friday 11th August, our flight
was delayed by 16 hours, due completely circumstances beyond Zoom's
control. I find it amazing that a company with only 4 planes could not
only get us home, but with only this, in comparison to cancelled flights
for many others, short delay.

Stansted - (stop off in Glasgow) - Toronto - (stop off in Glasgow) -
Stansted. We were impressed with the service provided by Zoom. The
express check in wasn't needed at Stansted but at Pearson airport was a
godsend! The staff were fantastic. Definitely worth upgrading to premium
economy though as the extra leg room is a treat on long flights. The
plane was a 767 and was an older model - but was clean and servicable.

Canada to Scotland return. Crew and flight attendants wonderful in both
directions. Asked for vegan meals, which we received, food was mediocre
in both directions. No forethought went into providing for vegan
passengers post meals; ham/cheese sandwiches were served for snack.
Return flight was delayed 24 hrs. due to mechanical failures. Were
placed in an interim hotel reeking of stale smoke and lack of commercial
cleaning services. Zoom's flight delay caused us to miss a connecting
flight. Due to returning later than expected, business and personal
costs were also incurred in addition to the cost of having missed
connecting flights. Contrary to information provided, there were no
Zoom representatives available at the time the flight was first delayed,
nor at the arrival point after the return flight was completed. I now
believe it was a deliberate action designed to avoid confrontation for
having to take responsibility for answers to questions that would have
been posed by delayed passengers, particularly when said passengers
would have discovered that they and not Zoom, would be left hanging
financially for Zoom's difficulties. Zoom's compensation for our
flights being delayed due to their mechanical issues was to offer
future-flight vouchers in the amount of $150. which expire as quickly as
Jan. 31, 2007, virtually ensuring that Zoom will never have to honour
them. This is appalling as well as an insult to sophisticated consumers
which comprise the majority of the traveling public. We will not fly
Zoom again, nor will we recommend Zoom.

Manchester to Calgary in premium 6th July. Female crew not very friendly and the food
was poor but typical of airline food. There is one hot meal and then a snack box later. There was a
paid service for a snack available in between. My husband was refused a beer with his meal he could
have wine but he does not drink it.. On the return from Vancouver on 21st July we were greeted with
a very pleasant crew. Beer was provided to go with his meal on this flight. Took some food and extra
water on board as there is only 1 sealed bottle of water per person. For the price paid it was
decent value.

My wife and I travelled from Belfast to Vancouver on the new Zoom
service in premium economy and the whole trip was excellent. The extra
legroom was comfortable, premium check-in very quick and staff were
efficient, friendly and attentive. Well done Zoom, it is nice to praise
good service rather than criticise poor service we receive on other
airlines.

We booked return travel from Manchester to Vancouver in June. The online
booking procedure was easy to use and we were kept up to date with
changes to flights. Both my husband and I enjoyed our experience. Its
well worth upgrading to premium economy for the extra legroom and the
other "perks". Don't get too excited about the priority baggage as it
took almost an hour for our bags to appear on arrival in Vancouver. Zoom
was not at fault as it seemed that the handlers were having a particular
baggage nightmare that evening. The staff were pleasant and attentive to
our needs. The drinks were plentiful and the food acceptable. We had
four films going and a different 4 films on our return. True the planes
are a little dated but they were clean and comfortable. I would
recommend this airline especially as it is one of the few that offers a
direct flight from Manchester to Vancouver. Will use them again.

My wife and travelled to Vancouver from Manchester in June 2006. Other
than the width of the seats in premier class I found that the service
was acceptable. On both legs the cabin crew were friendly and efficient.
Would like seat back TV's to while a way a long and tedious flight.
There were no delays other than a slight hold on the approach to
Manchester.

Gatwick to Vancouver in Premium Economy which is well worth the extra
cost. The food was perfectly adequate ,better than on some major
airlines. There were four good films to help pass the time. Only one
very minor complaint, the pilots didn't communicate with the passengers
during the flight, only making an announcement on arrival at Vancouver.
I just happen to like being 'talked' through the flight! The flights I
have been on have always been on time. I do notice the fares have been
greatly increased for next year though. Not so reasonable any more.

Flew premium economy Gatwick to Vancouver - well worth extra cost for
leg room - seats already allocated though, but plenty comfortable.
Staff very efficient, food not bad as airline food goes. Flight delayed
by 45mins outbound but 10 mins early on return journey from Calgary but
dedicated check in not too good in Calgary as economy passengers were
booked in quicker than premium economy due to computer/training issues.
Overall good service and value for money, would consider using Zoom
again.

Glasgow to Calgary May 4. Plane a bit older but nevertheless very
comfortable, crew very attentive to my need and my husband, crew got
along real well. Food was very tasty considering the low fare. Crew
were visible during most times, same for the return trip no problem at
all. I will certainly fly again with Zoom and would recommend them over
larger carriers.

Gatwick-Vancouver. The flight was 6 hours late! arriving in Vancouver
due to problems with the incoming flight. Passengers were only told
this on arrival at Gatwick. And there were no Zoom staff around of
course to help with on-bound connections. So anyone flying Zoom should
be prepared for the risk of a disrupted flight schedule, especially from
London as the airline does not carry back-up aircraft. There were no
problems with the return flight. Zoom cabin staff are very pleasant,
more so than Thomas Cook, and they knew how to handle the lighting so
the passengers do have the opportunity to sleep. On inbound flights from
Vancouver, Canadian Affair keep the full cabin lights on and give you
your food only after 4 hours into the flight, so Zoom compares well
here. Zoom Premium Economy using 36 inch pitch is a good deal compared
to BA and Air Canada economy using 32 inch on a 10 hour flight for the
same price. If only BA and Air Canada could offer a similar! I guess
they'll have to in time to meet the competition. Non-stop flights to
Vancouver cease after August, so regular travellers then have to use
Canadian Affair, BA or Air Can.
