SGN-FRA in Economy Deluxe. Flight was fully booked, so as Skyteam Elite I got upgrade to Eco Deluxe at check- in. Seat pitch in Deluxe was fine. Good choice of meals. Polite and helpful crew. IFE with AVOD and good choice.

FRA-SGN in Economy on B777. Smooth flight with a friendly and helpful crew. IFE with a good choice of films - most of them also available in German. Seats looks a bit worn and old. It was one of the B777 which didn't get the new seats in last year.

Saigon-Hanoi return. The captain made announcements with plenty of information. Good food and service with by nice polite flight attendants. I was not happy as we had intended to fly on a B777 but they changed it to an A320. Flights were smooth and comfortable, flight attendants must improve their English.

Paris-Hanoi. Their Business Class is top quality. Staff are quiet, but helpful if you need them. The food is lovely with generous portions. I have joined their Golden Lotus frequent flyer program which offers good privileges.

HKG-SGN and SGN-SYD in Business. Impressed with service on the HKG-SNG, the lounge in SGN was fine nothing exciting but fine. SNG-SDY was good, nice service and IFE was fine. Overall it was a good flight. Good value for money.

Saigon-Nha Trang-Danang return in Economy. New aircraft, clean with good seat size for economy. Check-in fine and generous with baggage allowances. Friendly crew, but they didn't have much to do - on all flights we were given a bottle of water, no food, no other drink choices. If you were expecting 'full service' to include food or even a coffee you will be disappointed.

NRT to SGN. Transit lounge staffs not familiar with Skyteam credential, they assigned me to the very back of aircraft despite repeatedly telling them I am an elite plus member of Skyteam. The aircraft was less than 50% full that day. Otherwise the flight on an A321 left on time and arrived without a hitch.

SGN-SIN and KUL-SGN aboard A321. New aircraft. Check in efficient, prompt and attentive service, fine food with great choices of drinks. Flight attendants are polite. No inflight entertainment but that's okay as its a short flight.

SIN-HAN-HUE-SGN-SIN in C class. Overall much better than expected, all flights on time, decent food, seats and service. Some aircraft's looked a bit tired but the domestic planes were newish and clean.

Hue City-Saigon-Hue. Quick check-in. Lounge in Hue ok. Flight delayed 15 mins, well announced. Luggage bags were the first out at destinations. On board 3 cold mini-sandwiches are served, not of much value apart from being decorative. Wide array of soft drinks. 2-3 types of beers offered. Calling flight attendants (by push-button) two times, it took them less than 10 seconds for them to arrive. English is improving.

We booked a flight for our son from Tokyo to Melbourne with a stop over in Ha Noi. Vietnam Airlines changed the flight so that the return flight was Melbourne-Saigon-Hanoi-Tokyo. Therefor he needed a visa to do the domestic leg Saigon to Ha Noi. This was never part of the original booking and Vietnam Airlines in Australia would not board him. We have tried to negotiate with Vietnam Airlines through our booking agent, and we have been unsuccessful to get Vietnam Airlines to compensate us in any way.

We arrived at the counter one hour early for checking in. It took a customer service rep 30 minutes to process a couple. When it came to our turn, she claimed that the flight was overbooked, and our seats were not available. We have to wait for the next flight. Customer service attitudes and behavior are extremely uneducated!

Have travelled frequently on Vietnam Airlines and have always been very happy with the whole experience, efficient check in, good leg room in seats, pleasant and efficient cabin staff. Unfortunately my last flight from HCM- Singapore had a slight problem. The meal was barely warm when I got it, the portions are good, but eating luke warm food is not very pleasant.

Hue-Ho Chi Minh City. The Flight was very comfortable and the landing was the smoothest landing I've ever experienced. The bad thing was that the flight attendants were not very attentive. There were 2 seats in front of my friend and I that had their seat pushed back to its full position and two flight attendants walked pass the cabin and did not spot the two people with their chairs not in it's upright position. The flight attendants also constantly ignored passengers. Good airline but terrible flight attendants.

VTE-Hanoi. Worn out A320, interior of course, with more than a few shabby or ripped seats. Glass of water only but 50min flight so not really fussed. Left and arrived on time.

FRA-SGN on B777-200. Check in at Frankfurt was a bit lazy (operated by LH). On board I get a very warm welcome by the flight attendants. Crew was very polite and attentive. Eg. shortly after I woke up a crew member come to me with a variety of beverages. So there was no need to call them. The food was more than enough and very delicious.

Hanoi-Tokyo, A330. Glad this running at about 40% load otherwise could have been a cramped flight. Staff try hard but food and drink is not good enough for a 5hr international flight (beef spaghetti for breakfast). Plane interior was quite worn and IFE was rubbish. Good thing the flight left at midnight. Paid top dollar for this too (AUD $650). Crazy that a JAL flight leaves on the same route 20min earlier.

SGN-HAN, B777-200ER. Clean and tidy inside. Seat 3x3x3 configuration makes travelling as a couple a bit awkward, but for short haul it's ok. The cabin crew were good. The food was very poor for western tastes. Seats were wide and VN has a seat pitch better than many. We got a very cheap fare for this route (about $50 each) so makes a better choice than other LCCs in Vietnam.

SYD-SGN, new A330-200 was clean and tidy. IFE was working fine and a good selection of movies. Crew polite and attentive, although I did find the use of the last couple of rows of middle seats as storage for toiletries and staff luggage a bit sloppy. The resting of galley trolleys near the rear doors was questionable and needs review. If you need to go to HAN then obviously there are other one stop options from SYD with higher rated airlines - however VN still give a good connection time.

Australia to HCMC, then to Danang, back to HCMC to Siem Reap and back to Australia. Staff, food, seats etc were fine and similar as we have experienced on Qantas.

SGN-HAN and original departure time of 0600 was put back to 0700 (informed by email). At the airport we were told the plane would not leave until 0820 for "technical reasons". This was a nuisance because we had arranged a transfer from HAN airport to Halong. Our second flight was DAD-SGN. The flight was supposed to leave at 1005 and punctual departure was assured when we phoned on the morning of the flight. At the airport we were told we would not leave until 1350, again putting us to considerable inconvenience was we had arranged ground transport to the Mekong. Technical reasons were again the ostensible cause. Vietnam Airlines is clearly consolidating flights and is quite prepared to put the travelling public to considerable trouble for their own operational reasons. Once in the air the planes were fine, but the management and passenger care are very poor indeed.

Internal services on 30th April were abysmal. Three flights from Vinh were supposed to depart during the day. Only one did and it landed in HCM at midnight. Ground staff could give no explanations save that several aircraft had been disabled by bird strike. I met various nationals who had similar experiences. Many like I had missed international connections.

Hue to Hanoi, I was horrified to find my seat belt webbing (by the buckle), frayed to the point that about 50% of the belt width was missing. The belt had obviously not been checked in a very long time. When collecting baggage from the same flight one large case was so water-logged it was necessary to have the contents laundered and the case dried by an industrial dryer. We can only guess this case was left outdoors air-side at Hue during a two hour departure delay, in teeming rain. Our Hanoi Travel Agent took the matter up with VN whose only offer was to call us and apologise - no apology was ever received.
